how many years will it take to become a gp or a specialist
AvatarShauni
4:29
@heyyyyyyy I've just googled it: You'll need to complete: a 5-year degree in medicine, recognised by the General Medical Council. a 2-year foundation course of general training. a 3-year specialist training course in general practice.

Got three completely opposite courses that I'm interested in and unsure of which one to partake in for my work experience

@Chris/Haywood - the summer schools listed in our dates for the diaries all have links to further information online - drop us an email at reachforexcellence@leeds.ac.uk and we will send them onto you although you should find them via google too!
hello everyone how u guys

do you think degree apprenticeships are more favourable?
AvatarShauni
4:30
@Guest it totally depends what you want to do. At Leeds they are generally offered in IT/technology subjects. They're a good way to study and earn at the same time and have excellence job prospects, but a regular degree can offer you potentially more flexibility.

Will reach for excellence help me  decide which degree I want to do at university?
AvatarShauni

@Guest none at all! We'll support you in applying where is best for you :)

Hi @guest. To be honest, it's probably about starting to decide now which one you're most interested in. You're going to have to make a decision at some point, so doing work experience will be a good way of finding out where your interests really are! Ideally, you'd get experience in all three areas to help with this process.

@Guest - yes :)

How long will the summer schools be?
Ekram

what happens at summer school
..:)

What can you do if you changed your mind about what you want to do in the future, but your a level courses no longer apply to your change?
AvatarShauni
4:33
@:) if you've changed your mind then I'd recommend speaking to tutors in schools and doing a bit of research. Some degrees have very specific A Level requirements, so it might be that you would potentially have to take these/restart Y12 if this would affect applications to uni!

Hi, I was thinking of applying to uni in a different country. Does RfE help students apply even if they want to study abroad?
AvatarJames
4:34
@Guest - where you not at Induction on Saturday? - we will be sending out everything you missed tomorrow so you can catch up
AvatarShauni
4:34
@Karo yes! We can help you with personal statements for applying abroad, though we are experts on the UCAS system so may not be able to advise on international application processes as well

Hi @Ekram. Thanks for getting in touch to let us know. We're aware that a number of you didn't have time to fill in some of the longer answers and we'll be getting in touch to let you know about this soon.

@Guest The summer school is a week-long residential programme of events, which will run from Monday 3rd August – Friday 7th August 2020. During the day there is a comprehensive programme of workshops and academic taster sessions, designed to help you with your application to university and to help you choose the right course and university. In the evening there are fun social activities.
