I'd take Cole over the combo deal
Especially if you're the Yankees and you already have Paxton, Severino, Tanaka
AJ
3:15
Considering what the Jays have on the books for the next season and the status of their rebuild, do you see them eating someone's contract to gain a prospect?
Steve Adams
3:15
I think that idea always sounds nice in theory, but ownership groups generally don't love the concept.
La Cheeserie
3:16
Reds vs Diamondbacks wildcard game next year sound about right to you?
Steve Adams
3:16
My postseason predictions are always crap (despite getting both WS teams right this year WOOHOO!!) ... Can't ask me for 2020 postseason predictions before we even see how the offseason goes!
Thad Levine
3:17
Do you see any SP trade candidates I can target with my deep farm?
Steve Adams
3:18
(Thad = Twins GM ... though worth pointing out that Derek Falvey is actually the top decision-maker)

Go get Jon Gray. Or at least someone should go get Jon Gray away from Colorado.

Also, as I said before, I like Archer quite a bit as a bounceback candidate and think teams should try to sway the Bucs to sell low on him.

How would an Atlanta rotation of Soroka, MadBum, Fried, Folty, Hamels rank in the NL?
Steve Adams
3:19
Would be among the best and deepest, though impossible to rank without knowing how the rest of the league shakes out. There's a ton to like in the rotation in DC, CIN, LA and STL already, and any of those teams could add another arm

One in a billion
AA
3:20
Kyle Wright and Ender for Starling Marte. Helps both teams right?!
Steve Adams
3:20
Pirates probably want more than just the one young piece, especially if they're taking back the Ender money, but it's a nice starting point.
Nats Expos
3:21
No signings yet. Are we 3 years in a row for a slow market? Do you see the 30+ veterans having a difficult off season again?
Steve Adams
3:22
Even when the market wasn't weird, there were no signings like 2 days into the offseason.

Plus, I guess the Chapman extension kinda counts as one.

3:22
Am I the only one who is betting on myself for a nice comeback? Would seem to be a great get for many teams looking for innings.
Steve Adams
3:23
Nah, I like Porcello for a rebound. The juiced ball seemed to hurt him a lot -- homer rate skyrocketed -- but the velo and control held. Still spins the ball well.
3:24
Porcello as the second piece for one of these teams that need multiple starters -- Angels, Twins, Phillies, etc. -- would be a nice fit, in my mind.
More Land
3:24
I see Mitch Moreland didn’t make the top 50 FA list. Why? And where do you see him signing?
Steve Adams
3:25
It's about earning power, and he's a 34-year-old platoon 1B coming off a good-not-great year at the plate. I'd be surprised if he tops a year and $5MM.  As for fits... back to Boston, over to Minnesota to replace Cron (non-tender)... maybe to Miami? Nationals?
Johnny Appleseed
3:25
Why so many proposals of Contreras trades?  Am I missing something?  Caratini isn't bad, but Contreras is one of the game's best catchers.
Steve Adams
3:26
I think it just stems from a general belief that Theo and Jed are going to be open to anything and might radically alter the composition of a club that has disappointed offensively the past couple of seasons.

Assuming that May, Gonsolin, Lux and Smith are untouchable; what would the Dodgers have to give up to get Lindor, Kluber and possibly even Hand from Cleveland?
Steve Adams
3:27
If you're trying to trade for maybe the best SS in baseball, buy low on a possible ace and add a high-end lefty ... you don't start by saying "Ok, assuming our four best, young controllable assets are off the table"
3:28
If those four aren't in play, the Dodgers aren't getting Lindor, Kluber and Hand.

Broadly speaking, I can't fathom Cleveland dumping that much talent in one trade anyway.

Where does Kole Calhoun wind up and, if the Angels don't resign Brian Goodwin (as the filler piece until Jo Adell is ready) who plays...and, will Jo Adell be ready next year??
Steve Adams
3:30
Goodwin is projected to earn $2.1MM -- there's no reason for the Angels to non-tender him (that looks like a really nice claim by Billy Eppler & Co. btw ... have to give them credit there).

I can see Calhoun landing in Cleveland, Pittsburgh, with the White Sox... Cards maybe

3:30
Does AA have any intention of resigning Donaldson? Can they and will they bring in Madbum?
Steve Adams
3:31
He's plainly stated that they hope to keep Donaldson. He also gave him $23MM last winter. If you're not convinced by now not sure how my opinion helps! Haha
HolySox
3:31
Who do you see in RF for the White Sox for 2020?
Steve Adams
3:31
We at MLBTR all liked the Castellanos fit we projected
Stan Lee the Manly
3:32
Any guesses as to what the ask for Mitch Haniger would be? Seems like a realistic target for teams like St. Louis or Chicago with openings in the outfield but a reluctance to increase payroll
Steve Adams
3:32
I think the Mariners would be selling too low on Haniger to consider dealing him this winter. I'll be surprised if he doesn't open the season in Seattle's OF
Alex Anthopoulos
3:32
Did I screw up with my recent declarations? Or Tony Clark is just overreacting because of the rising tensions that have come after the last 2 offseasons? Is a strike inevitable after the CBA?
Steve Adams
3:33
I admittedly side with the players on most issues, but that whole thing was a pretty big reach by the union
3:34
I don't think anyone is interpreting that comment from Anthopoulos as admitting to asking other GMs "Hey -- you're not going to offer Bumgarner more than $68M are you? Where are you drawing the line?"

It was a poor choice of words from Anthopoulos, sure, but I kind of rolled my eyes at it.
(At the Union's response -- not at his comments)

Steve you now run the Yanks, what's the off season plan?
Steve Adams
3:35
Do I run the bb ops or own them? If I own them -- sign Gerrit Cole and Will Smith.

If I'm replacing Brian Cashman -- A) That stinks for Yankees fans and B) Let's see how much Hal is going to give me to work with.
