And Trout is leading him by nearly 80 points in OBP and Slugging with 16 more home runs. If you're banking on Devers getting an MVP nod, you're going to have a disappointing Awards season. He won't garner the most MVP consideration on his own team, even
(Bogaerts)
(Probably Betts too)

Does Will Smith get a QO
Steve Adams
2:49
I think he's kind of a borderline call, but I'd do it. It'd be a record AAV for a reliever if he took it, but it also wouldn't be a colossal overpay. And he'd have trade value at that rate again next summer, assuming health.

What do I do with Brandon Crawford and Brandon Belt ? I already have one legacy guy that can’t hit anymore ( Buster Posey ) but three?
Steve Adams
2:53
(Zaidi = pres of bb ops in SF)

Crawford has a full no-trade clause, so you're kind of stuck.
Belt's is limited, but coming off the season he's having there's no way anyone is taking on even a decent chunk of that contract. He's been underrated by Giants fans for a long time, I feel like, but this year has been brutal. Could try to flip him for another bad contract, I suppose, but otherwise the best bet is to just hope for a rebound.

Does Falvey bolt to Boston when they come calling?
Steve Adams
2:54
Derek Falvey already has the top spot in the Twins' baseball operations department. I doubt the Twins would even grant Boston permission to interview him
Free Agency
2:55
Will Milwaukee keep Moose and Grandal for 1 more year?
Steve Adams
2:56
Well Grandal isn't taking another one-year deal coming off this season. That was a pretty large anomaly that fell into their laps nicely. If they're not willing to go something like 3/60-ish (or maybe 2/45, if he truly is that concerned with AAV over length), then I doubt they keep him.
2:57
If I'm the Brewers, I'd absolutely be trying to get Moose to stay on a two-year deal or something. After being forced into consecutive 1-year deals -- offer him 2/24 or something and see if he pounces. Solid player, seems to fit well there.

Over/under years/total money to keep Donaldson in Atlanta? 3/75?
Steve Adams
2:59
He's going to be in a weird spot given his age. I think three years is right. As for the AAV, it might need to creep up a bit. It's a big commitment, of course, but the Cards paid Goldschmidt $26MM annually to sign him through age-36. Three years takes Donaldson through the same age.
3:00
3/81? Not a lot of precedent for that type of deal, but Donaldson has had a very atypical path to free agency. I haven't thought about it a ton yet, but we're going to start up our discussions for Free Agent predictions in the near future here, so I'll start to have some more thought-out answers on some of this stuff in the coming weeks.

does tucker, whitley, josh james and another piece from the astros get a betts deal done?
Steve Adams
3:01
No way the Astros give up all that for one year of Betts.
I doubt they'd surrender Tucker or Whitley straight up. They've been effectively off limits in every trade conversation Houston has had, it seems.

Will anyone want me when Philly shows me the door?
Steve Adams
3:01
Sure, but maybe not until you're non-tendered and can signed at a lower number than the $6-7MM you'll get in arbitration.

odor for Cobb trade thoughts?
Steve Adams
3:03
Kind of forgot Alex Cobb existed, ha. The money is pretty close, but the Rangers really love Odor as a person and a worker, and I bet they'd be more optimistic of him bouncing back than Cobb.

How is your fantasy team looking these days?
Steve Adams
3:04
Cut down to 3 this year. Trying to claw into money back in my competitive roto keeper league. Finals of a pair of head-to-head leagues. Football is off to a mixed bag start, but I somehow lucked into a real good team in the league with the guys over at Pro Football Rumors

Hello. If the Angels were to sign two FA's tied to draft compensation, which picks would they be giving up?
Steve Adams
That's a bit different now since we have a different set of luxury payors, but the Angels are the same since they're not paying the tac
tax
(Second- and third-highest picks plus $1MM in international money on the 2020-21 market, to be more direct, but that's a good bookmark to remind you)

Why isn’t Freddie Freeman mentioned as one of your NL MVP caliber candidates?
Steve Adams
3:07
Not having AS good of a year offensively (bit lower in OBP, hitting for less power) and doesn't play as important of a defensive position. Freeman's great, and there've been years where he's right in the mix, but what Rendon, Yelich and Bellinger have done in 2019 is just absurd.
Lousy trades

Cobb to Cozart?
Steve Adams
3:09
I don't hate that idea at all. Angels need the pitching depth, so why not? And Orioles would be getting a guy whose contract is up a year sooner. Might need Baltimore to include some cash to help offset the difference -- Cozart is owed $13MMish, Cobb is owed about 28 -- but if they can figure out a middle ground of some sort on the money, that's not a bad fit.

Flaherty is a stud
Steve Adams
3:10
He's not AS good as he's been in the second half -- no one is, ha -- but yeah he's a real bright spot for STL fans
QO
3:11
Does the market last year force players to accept the QO?
Steve Adams
3:14
There are some borderline candidates every year, so there's always the chance of one or two guys taking it. I don't think we'll see a landslide of that, though.

Cole, Rendon, MadBum, Chapman (when he opts out), Ozuna and Donaldson are all locks to get it and turn it down. Strasburg, too, if he opts out. Same for JD Martinez.

The only real borderline candidates I can see are Will Smith, Jake Odorizzi and Zack Wheeler. I'd still lean toward each rejecting, though.
3:15
It's less about what they'd get annually -- none are getting 18 -- and more about what they'd get in terms of overall guarantees. Odorizzi accepting wouldn't shock me, but if I had to guess, I'd lean against.
Serious question
3:15
So you think Cole Hamels does not get a QO?
Steve Adams
3:16
Oh I whiffed on Hamels, ha
