Beavs are playing a home weekend series this week for the first time since April 4-6. Only 35% of the Beavers wins this season have come at home... UCI is the only other team in the top 20 RPI that has less than 59% of their wins at home.

I know it's reflected in the RPI but how do you compare these road heavy schedules that OSU has played against teams that have played twice as many home games, (especially when a lot of those teams have a pretty mediocre road record)?
Aaron Fitt
12:59
That's the whole reason Oregon State is in the discussion to host or even be a top 8 -- it's hard to win on the road, and that's why the RPI rewards road games. If they had played more home games and had the same record, their RPI would be worse and they would not be in position to host. That's something I like about the RPI, actually -- I think those road wins SHOULD be given more weight, and I am actually comfortable with the weighting that we have currently, although people who are smarter than me when it comes to math disagree with me on that last point.

Do you guys have any insight on the future HC at Georgia Tech?  If they were doing something internally, you would think that move would have been made.
Kendall Rogers

James - I would be very surprised as of right now if James Ramsey is not the head coach, from what my sources are telling me. Never say never, but the winds certainly seem to be blowing toward JR at this moment in time.

Winning the SEC tournament looks to be the only path Texas A&M has to reach the post season, would you agree?  If they lose in Hoover, would their season represent the biggest crash and burn in all of college baseball history?  Are there any other teams that even come close?
Kendall Rogers
1:01
I don't think it's the only path. if A&M wins the Georgia series and gets to 15-16 wins in the conference tournament, I think it would likely easily be in the field at that point. But again, you're asking a team who is the opposite of consistent to win 4 or 5 games in the next 8-9 days.... I'm skeptical.

Is Clemson cooked as a host? It also feels like the Tigers offense doesn't have the fire power to mask so-so pitching depth.
Aaron Fitt
1:01
No, I wouldn't say they're cooked to host -- if they sweep Pitt on the road this weekend, they'll still get to 18 ACC wins with a top-16 RPI, which typically is a host. Win 2 of 3 this weekend, and a game or two in Durham, and I think they host in that case too. I do share your concerns about them right now... but we've also seen what they can do when they're hot. Just a matter of getting hot again when it matters most. Right now -- they are decidedly NOT hot.

Is this one of the best years for parity you guys have seen? Of the teams in the top 10: LSU,texas, georgia, auburn, vandy, & oregon state have all been swept, Florida State got run ruled twice at home in a series, and Arkansas has lost 4 of their last 5 series. Almost crazy to see - is this the most wide open title race in memory?
Aaron Fitt
1:02
I'm with you, it is the most wide open it's been in a long time (which feels weird to say considering 7 of the top 8 in the RPI are all SEC -- but again, there's really not a clear-cut favorite out of those 7 SEC teams). Wide open right now, and I think that's super fun.

Does Tom Walter leave Wake for an SEC opening?
Kendall Rogers
1:03
I think Tom Walter is very movable right now.

How many of these West coasters, (Oregon, Oregon St. UCLA, Irvine) host?
Kendall Rogers
1:04
I like Oregon, OSU and UCLA for sure. I'd probably still lean UCI, but it would be close.

I was a little surprised to not see Georgia Tech re-enter the rankings this week. Would a road sweep at Duke this weekend get GT back into the hosting discussion? Or do they need to make a run in the ACC Baseball tournament?
Aaron Fitt
1:04
Don't even need to sweep -- they just need to win the series at Duke. The reason they're not ranked right now is that this was their first series win this year against a team that is likely to be a regional team. They've mostly feasted on lesser teams in the league (although it's worth noting that Virginia Tech looked a lot better back when GT beat them than the Hokies do now). Anyway, as KR laid out above I think, the Jackets are very much in the hosting mix, given that 17-10 ACC record.

If a team outside of Connecticut, Xavier, and Creighton wins the Big East Tournament, is there the slighest chance of a four-bid league or am I dreaming?
Kendall Rogers
1:05
You are dreaming. Love the top of that league, but zero shot a mid-major league like that is getting four teams in with the three other teams are 40, 56 and 43 in the RPI.
Aaron Fitt
1:05
All right folks, that's all for me today -- K-Rizzle will take it on home.

After Iowa went winless against Oregon State this weekend is there a path for them to get an at large bid? I think if they win that Oregon Series and win the Big Ten I think they could make it
Kendall Rogers
1:06
If Iowa gets swept this weekend, the Hawkeyes, IMO, would need to win the Big Ten tournament to make the tournament field.
TomD
1:07
Does Creighton have a chance at an at large?
Kendall Rogers
1:07
Tom -- a chance for sure. But the Jays are 56 in the RPI. Would need to win that series this weekend and go on a furious run in the conference tournament. Maaaaybe if the Jays finished strong this weekend and made the tourney title game? If they did get in, it wouldn't be an additional team for the Big East, it would probably knock one of those other teams like UCONN or Xavier out.

Although it is C-USA, has WKU done enough to make the tourney? Or is it a 1 big league (and may host) in DBU?
Kendall Rogers
1:09
I think WKU is a pretty good team, and I also love the way the Toppers responded from that sinker weekend down in Miami. Seven-straight wins and should take care of business in the Jacksonville State series. I think WKU squeezes its way in if it wins that series this weekend and make a run in the conference tournament (but does not win it).

Two questions.  One is the same question as last week.   Has Coastal's chances at a National Seed changed at all? Thoughts on the SBC tournament?  Come down to CCU and usm?
Kendall Rogers
1:10
Bob -- Coastal is and should be squarely in the top eight mix. I do think Coastal would need to play very well in the conference tournament to be a top eight, however. The middle to bottom of that league just hasn't been very good, so my feeling is that from a resume standpoint, it drags those better SBC teams down a bit. Again, like some other contenders, I do think the eyeball test with Coastal is impressive.

Let’s say Texas loses 2/3 at OU this weekend but still holds on to win the SEC because Arkansas only wins 2/3 against Tennessee. What do you do with Texas in terms of a top 8 seed? It feels harsh to push the SEC champ down outside the top 8 but that would mean they went 2-7 in their last 9 SEC games and we know the committee considers how well you’re playing late in the season.
Kendall Rogers
1:11
Texas would still be a top eight -- but probably in the 6-8 range instead of the top five.
Finebaum
1:12
Which team is the Arkansas-Tennessee series a must-win for?
Kendall Rogers
1:12
Finebaum -- Tennessee. If the Vols lose that series, I think the pathway to being a Top 16 seed is wiped out without a furious run in Hoover.

Who needs this weekend the most - USM or Troy?  Feels like a big weekend for both, for USM to have a shot at hosting they need the series, and if Troy drops it they are likely a bubble team
Kendall Rogers
1:13
I would say it's a bigger weekend for Southern Miss if it wants to stay in the hosting mix. A series loss this weekend would likely make it pretty difficult for the Golden Eagles to host. A series loss for Troy would mean it lost one series the entire season. That's still a pretty damn good hit rate for Skylar Meade's club.

What occurred on Thursday night in Auburn is unacceptable on every level for South Carolina's baseball program. The decision to hiring Paul Mainieri was made by Ray Tanner who is no longer the AD. Given this fact and how poorly this Year 1 has gone, do you think that South Carolina makes a move?
Kendall Rogers
1:15
I will forever never say never after last summer, but South Carolina will have to fork over 5.2 million to get rid of Paul Mainieri if it wants to fire him. Why would Mainieri step down and NOT make SC pay him that much money? I think I would be surprised if SC was willing to come up with that money after one season. I guess there's a chance Paul says adios ... but I think that would surprise me a little given all of my years of knowing his personality.
DAWGS
1:18
How about the dawgs and the job Parker is doing?! Should we feel safe with a series win at Mizzou this weekend? Also, any updated insight on the coaching search? Thanks as always!
Kendall Rogers
1:18
Get to 14-15 wins in the league and I feel pretty good about the Bulldogs and the way they are trending. How about Evan Siary over the weekend? This team absolutely has the personnel to be pretty dangerous in the postseason.

Boomer, does Oklahoma have enough gas in the tank to host or should I get ready to go up to Fayetteville?
Kendall Rogers
1:28
Randy -- I think OU is going to have to get to 16 wins minimum, probably 17 to host. A Texas series win this weekend would be a good start - I just think the Sooners are behind too many contenders at the moment. FYI -- OU cannot go to an SEC host.

Should the NCAA consider “capping” number of top 8 national seeds/top 16 regional hosts for each conference?   Would this perhaps reduce the overwhelming advantages that the “super conferences” currently hold?   They already have best talent, they also get much easier paths to cws.
