The basic issue you run into is that you have a very limited amount of test data.  We only get one season a year.

Ohtani's problem is that he can't differentiate based on money, so he has to look at other things.
Nothing promised will be contractually guaranteed, but it does let him see how open a team is.

Do we have a strong sense for which aspects of advanced catching metrics do the best job of capturing aggregate catcher value?  Are the runs saved metrics doing a good job of capturing how a catcher helps a team and what teams should value (defensively), or is there a lack of consensus?
