Not necessarily. Above the belt is still better, all things equal, for launch angles. It's certain swings that can't get the barrel to those balls, not all.

It was pointed out to me that there's a competition effect -- don't want to improve the crosstown rivals -- but that seems shortsighted. Worry about your own team. And for the prospect to be worth more than $2million, he had to be in the top 200. I guess maybe the guys they were offered weren't that good?

You buying Wilmer Difo as a potentially league-average-or-above hitter? Since he started playing every day at the end of June, he's run a 10.7% BB rate, 16.5% K rate, .136 ISO (and a .402 BABIP that inflates his overall line - though, he's pretty fast so a .340 or so true talent isn't crazy). And he's hit a couple of no-doubter home runs, so maybe his bat is actually an everyday one?

I dunno, two ground balls for every fly ball, not a lot of power history, I think more like a .120 Iso is true talent, a few too many strikeouts for a guy with his profile, looks like a (good) third middle infielder to me.
