Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Brad Johnson

His minor league high is 16. It's not uncommon for guys to rip off 45 SBs at their speed peak in the minors and never sniff 20 in the Majors.
Mark "World's Strongest Man" Henry

Please tell me I'm not an idiot for holding onto Bellinger in dynasty the past 3 years.
Brad Johnson
12:43
No, not an idiot. There's still rebound potential. Probably, there will always be rebound potential, even if he flops this season again. At least this side of age 30.
Certainly not the best corner to have backed one's self into

Am I to trust Judge in the first 3-4 rounds?
Brad Johnson
12:44
I don't like this concept of "trust"ing players we often see.
One of my Toyota Keys to the Game is: trust nobody. Always build redundancy whenever you can.
12:45
I think Judge is correctly priced at 38 ADP
Go ahead and pick him.
12:46
Put another way, try to plan for your roster to function if you spontaneously lose any 3 position players.
Easier said than done, I know.
Think of it as an exercise to improve your resilience should the worst happen.
You can burn a third round pick and run away with a league.

Views on josh and Nate Lowe
Brad Johnson
12:47
Oh, Josh Lowe is a name I should have dropped earlier. Best outcomes are in the 25/30 range.
I think the Rays are going to finally ship Kiermaier (just my guess) which could open up some reps for Lowe.
12:48
As for Nate, he has a GB problem.
Lovely discipline, loud contact, not enough in the air.
My sources drip with disdain for the Rangers support staff.
12:49
They don't think there's much hope of a Nate Lowe air-ball breakout
But... if it happens, you'll be very happy having taken him at 240 ADP.

12:49
Where does Sean Murphy rank among Cs in a dynasty for you?
Brad Johnson
12:50
Offhand, I can't be too specific. I don't keep rankings lists. Somewhere in the 6-12 range.
12:51
I might be a little high on Murphy, personally. I think there's breakout potential in his bat, and I also think he might wind up batting cleanup once Olson and Chapman are shipped.
DH
12:51
Assuming MLB and the players union get their sh*t together and we have a season, I take it we'll have a universal DH? What fantasy impact do you see that having?
Brad Johnson
12:52
So it sounds like the DH is going to happen. The players finally said "look, we like the DH, but you (the owners) like it just as much. Put it in there, but stop trying to get something for it."
I think the owners will take the message and just do it.
Can’t Win in the Playoffs
12:52
Luis Garcia or Shane Baz for 2022 results?
Brad Johnson
12:52
I think I'm opening the third door personally
12:53
If I have to choose, I probably take a shot at Baz. Garcia is serviceable in a way that can implode if he loses his feel or pitches at 90%
Alex
12:53
In a keeper league, who do you send to FA first... Luis Robert or Kyle Tucker?
Brad Johnson
12:54
Oh jeez. You're rich beyond all measure if you're cutting a top 20 player
Neither player is an imposter around pick 10 even...
I think I prefer Tucker
Adam
12:54
Do you see a world in which defense (DRS, UZR, OAA) ever gets incorporated into fantasy baseball? Or do you see it sticking to offensive, counting stats
Brad Johnson
12:55
The defensive elements of baseball (besides pitching) just don't lend themselves to fantasy purposes
joe
12:55
best catching prospect as a long-term keeper Tyler Stephenson – Reds, Keibert Ruiz – Nationals, or Alejandro Kirk – Blue Jays?
Brad Johnson
12:55
Can I answer Gabriel Moreno?
12:56
Truthfully, we're looking at three names of a similar asset class. Their production is shaped a little differently. The safest is probably Stephenson.
12:57
Kirk is a lot of fun to watch
