Fantasy Baseball Chat With Brad Johnson

Floro's already slightly worse than Bender so he might have a tricky path back to saves.
12:51
And his upside is more "this is pretty decent" than "flourish"
Kind of a slightly worse Andrew Kittredge.
12:53
Duran, well we talked about him a lot on Twitter today. Twins probably want him as SP depth even though they've done a decent job of building that up. I really don't see an SP future for him. He has all kinds of Dinelson Lamet vibes and he was a RP (successfully) masquerading as a SP for years. I'd love for the Twins to dive in, but the signs suggest it'll be a slow grind for Duran.
Pirates Saves Conundrum
12:53
Bednar is a beast, do you think he eventually overshadows the mediocrity of the pirates bullpen to be the man for saves
Brad Johnson
12:53
He almost has to because it's not even close.

Given a choice -- Cronenworth or Gleyber Torres?
Brad Johnson
12:54
A week ago when we though Gleybs was a starter, I'd say him. I picked him to be a discount Marcus Semien. 2022 Semien to be clear, not 2021 Semien.
Now, I'll take the high floor from Jakey
Dipoto's Double
12:54
Which RP should I drop in a league with Saves, Holds, and K/9? Andres Munoz or Jake Brentz?
Brad Johnson
12:54
I'd cut Brentz. It'll look wrong in the short term, but if Munoz stays healthy, you'll come out ahead in the end.
Probably.
12:55
There's no certainty in baseball, if a statement I make ever seems certain, just mentally append a "probably" on the end.

I was able to get Acuna Jr and Tatis Jr. on the cheap ( 4th and 5th rounds) in a 12 team league. When can I reasonably expect their return ?
Brad Johnson
12:56
Acuna is targeting April 21/22, I forget which. Could be as late as early May. Would return as a DH.
Tatis is out through some point in June. Historically, he's rushed back without showing much ill-effect (besides recurrence of injury).

Could we see Bobby miller or Gorman (stl) up this year? Which one do you think provides biggest impact this year?  Also thoughts on M gore getting a call up next week
Brad Johnson
12:57
I'm not sure what the plan is for Miller. I think the answer is yes, but in a very limited role. Like 5 spot starts with a postseason bullpen role.
12:58
I imagine they don't want him doing too much relieving, and I'm not sure he's quite ready to jump into the Dodgers rotation.
He could probably jump into 20 rotations, just not the Dodgers. Expectations are different.

Cruz or Abrams for fantasy purposes

Is Daulton Varsho really not going to catch at all? I didn't realize the Dbacks were using Cooper Hummel as the back-up. Both Varsho and Pham are off to O-fers, who has more value by the end of the season?
Brad Johnson
12:59
I think he'll get the odd start here or there, especially if Kelly misses time.
I doubt they want him to lose the skill set completely. I haven't heard anything about him not travelling with his gear or anything.
I can ask around.

Is a Luzardo breakout possible?
Brad Johnson
1:00
Likely, I'd say, based on his spring metrics.

For just this year.....how do you rank H. Greene, J. Luzardo, R. Detmers?
Brad Johnson
1:00
Luzardo, Greene, Detmers. Pretty big gaps between each as of today.

Are you in any ESPN fantasy baseball leagues where the player eligibility went wonky over the weekend?
Brad Johnson
1:01
I have one ESPN league, but I don't use the wire often (20-team dynasty)
Didn't even look for anyone over the weekend.
1:02
I did post a whiny tweet about ESPN's service last week and it went mini-viral.
