In short, their stuff backed up. They were already fringy on a pure-stuff basis so they had no margin for error.

We've written off Kimbrel before and been wrong, but do you think this is the end of the line for him as a reliable saves guy?
Brad Johnson
1:39
I don't think "reliable" has applied to him in a long time.
Even when he's been hot for months at a time, I've always had the sense he could implode without any warning.
1:40
To that end, he was JUST hot like 2 weeks ago. Had something like 8.2 no-hit innings then KABOOM

How soon until George Valera is starting for the Guardians?
Brad Johnson
1:41
Valera is one of those guys who the team fans love a LOT more than the national pundits.
1:42
Sometimes, the locals know what they're talking about, but it's usually a sign the guy is overhyped. That said, he should debut next year as injuries arise.
Guardians suddenly have a bunch of cool outfielders. Not superstars or anything, but I have a big soft spot for Steven Kwan and Will Brennan types.

Do you think Hunter Brown will be in the rotation in 2023?
Brad Johnson
1:42
I do, if not initially then eventually.
1:43
They've had really good pitcher health this season, but that's not usually a year-to-year trait among the same batch of arms. Somebody will hit the skids for Houston.
George Mitterwald
1:43
Best fantasy catcher next year will be...?
Brad Johnson
1:44
Is it really boring to say J.T. Realmuto?
Because, that's the smart bet. I like Daulton Varsho too.
1:45
Salvy could maybe get healthy and rebound.
Detmers
1:45
Is he a keeper or throw him back in the pool for next year
Brad Johnson
1:45
Without knowing more about your league, I really couldn't say.
1:46
The reason is that there's talent and a pretty decent-looking long-term outlook. At the same time, I'm not very optimistic about him in 2023. He might be around irl league average again which is well below fantasy average.

Just grabbed Ezequial Tovar with a modest FAAB bid - what are the odds he sticks as SS for the Rockies next spring?
Brad Johnson
1:46
Pretty decent. Could turn into a Oneil Cruz situation.

What do you know or believe now that you didn’t know or believe five years ago?
Brad Johnson
1:48
As with any expertise, the main thing you learn is that you know less than you ever realized. That said, I've been pleasantly surprised (and kinda mad) about a lot of the Statcast innovations confirming things I was already doing. Now I've lost those advantages and have been forced to dig for new ideas.

Time to give up on Andujar in 24 team dynasty?
Brad Johnson
1:48
Around 2019 was the time to give up.
1:49
I've never been an Andujar guy. Biggest luckbox to wander onto an MLB field.

Do you only do fantasy baseball or do you also do other fantasy sports/chats on the sister sites?
Brad Johnson
1:49
I'm a baseball purist.

Any chance the Tigers cut bait and run from Miggy? The money is already spent one way or another....
Brad Johnson
1:50
I won't say no, but I don't think they're there just yet.
Once you start seeing him sit when he's healthy, then his days will be numbered.

After all his misfortune this year, where do you think Nate Pearson slots in for Toronto next year? Starter or pen?
Brad Johnson
1:50
Probably the bullpen, at least initially
Ace
1:50
Thoughts on CJ Abrams for next year?
Brad Johnson
1:51
Solid growth asset, but I don't see him as a top performer
Jsh
1:51
Jackson Holliday, Druw Jones, or someone else #1 in fypd?
Brad Johnson
1:51
Holliday and Jones are the easy top picks, pending any posted players
1:52
I prefer Holliday, in part because I've actually seen him play. Yet to see Jones since he's been out.

Do you expect Soto to be a top 5 overall fantasy performer next season ?
Brad Johnson
1:52
In OBP, yes. Probably more like top 15 in AVG.
