I've given up on Matthew Boyd. Who's the better replacement: Daniel Lynch or Michael Lorenzen? Thanks
Brad Johnson
1:24
I really don't think Lynch can start so if I must choose between the two, I'd go with Lorenzen. He's... fine.
Doesn't help any categories though so I'd keep digging for another name.

Hey Brad, thanks for the chats! E.Saurez and J.Candelario: Which do you prefer short-term and which do you prefer for the rest of the season? Thanks!
Brad Johnson
1:24
Suarez. Under the hood, there's no change in his peripherals. He is, by nature, a volatile performer. The HRs will come.
1:25
Kind of like with Lowe, summer weather should be nice for him. I know it's been unseasonably cool in much of the country. Between limited pitcher inventory and upcoming scorchers, the ball is going to really start flying soon.

1:26
Any thoughts on what’s wrong with Alek Manoah? When is it time to cut bait? Asking for a friend.
Brad Johnson
1:26
By now, he's probably all kinds of in his own head in addition to all the other little things contributing to his slump. I'm not confident about cutting bait, but I wouldn't start him either.
1:27
He might turn out to be Blake Snell-like where he has epic highs and painful lows.
For now, he's walking guys and not inducing whiffs. You'll know to start using him when both of those things start happening.

24 team dynasty. Any prospects have a huge jump that might be avaliable?
Brad Johnson
1:28
Ethan Salas is the next big thing going around.
Probably rostered, but should still be attainable.
1:29
Zach Dezenzo and Luis Lara
I'm a personal fan of Johan Rojas. Decent chance to turn out to be just like this current version of Esteury Ruiz.
1:30
Which isn't exactly a high value asset, but folks routinely overpay for SB only thieves.

How would you rank these outfielders for dynasty? Evan Carter, Sal Frelick, Oscar Colas.
Brad Johnson
1:30
Yea, you've got it.

1:30
When do you expect the Dodgers to release Trace Thompson and if so who will replace him?
Brad Johnson
1:31
I don't have any insight into the Dodgers thought processes with Thompson. They think there's something there that isn't happening on the field, else he would already be long gone.
1:32
As for the replacement, Andy Pages made an adjustment to hit at a lower launch angle. His bat path is still too steep for my liking, but it seems to be about time to give him some runway.
He was recently promoted to Triple-A so perhaps in a few weeks?

Good afternoon, Brad.  Hope that you had an enjoyable long weekend.  I have been offered Torkelson for Whitley (who is on my IL, and in the minors).  I have Casas at 1B, Caballero at CI, and Ohtani at DH.  I think that this is a potential trade strongly in my favor (especially due to Caballero's position flexibility), but have been burned badly by Torkelson in the past.  Would this be a "bird in the hand is better …" trade for me?  Thanks.
Brad Johnson
1:34
If you can afford patience beyond just this season, I'd give that a shot. The batted ball data on Tork is really encouraging even though the results aren't there.
1:35
I still like Forrest (I assume that's the Whitley) as a flier, but Tork is a better one.

Elly De La Cruz or Jordan Walker?
Brad Johnson
1:35
Gimme Elly. Most Tatis-like player since Tatis.

And Brad, what is your take on Drew Waters (OF - KCR)?
Brad Johnson
1:37
Worth a flier, I'm not hopeful or anything, but he was pretty hot in the lead-up to his promotion. Suddenly started making good contact. That's always been a missing ingredient for him - high Max EVs and low AVG EVs.

Guardians rotation is about to get crowded; considering how Allen & Bibee have done, how does Francona fit Civale & McKenzie in? Is a trade imminent (for a big bat)? Thanks
Brad Johnson
1:38
I doubt they make a trade. Pitching depth has a nasty habit of turning into a shortage. They also have a lot of guys who need workload management so the logjam sort of helps them navigate that.
1:39
They also have a bunch of perfectly capable hitters who just aren't hitting. I think it'll sort itself out (perhaps with pitching regression too)

Is Bobby Miller an ace in waiting?
Brad Johnson
1:39
I know a lot of smart people who think so. I'm not one of them.
1:40
It's a possible outcome, especially with Dodgers pitching dev on his side. But I see him as requiring quite a few adjustments before he's more than an interesting hard-thrower who misses fewer bats than expected.
1:41
I like him more than Hunter Greene who's vaguely in that same asset class of "hard-throwing but potentially headache-inducing"

I was just offered Logan Gilbert - Greg Vaughn - Tink Hence - Andy Pages - Jeferson Quero FOR Vlad - am I crazy to pass? As always Thanks for doing these chats!!
Brad Johnson
1:42
It really depends on your league, roster situation, and keeper rules. Generally, passing on quantity-for-quality deals for Top 10-20 assets is a wise choice.
1:43
That said, it's not an insulting offer. I just don't see enough floor to justify making a move. Those are all "can miss" prospects.

I’ve had a remarkable rash of pitching injuries — both early-rounders (Fried and deGrom) and later-round gems (May and Rasmussen). I managed to trade for Eduardo Rodriguez (though not sure I buy his resurgence), but my only other objectively roster-worthy starter is Jesus Luzardo. Any thoughts on underrated guys — ideally on the waiver wire, but maybe also the sort available in a trade for a mid-grade closer?
