Fantasy Baseball Chat with Brad Johnson

Meidroth
1:41
I’d put a lot of money of Meidroth being an above average player. He just hits and hits and doesn’t stop hitting.

Hi Tom!
(Tom's my co-manager)
I can't figure out what we're hoping he becomes for a fantasy outcome.
Right-handed Luis Arraez is like the 125th percentile outcome.
1:43
It's not a profile we can expect to produce HRs. He's not exactly fast. Doesn't have a plus defensive position. I don't mind him as a guy who stands in front of the Monster, but they already have Yoshida doing that.
1:44
Since he's so patient, we're not going to get as high an AVG as we want to see.
1:45
The Red Sox aren't going to play him regularly, and they're not investigating the sort of trades that would send him elsewhere - barring a hot June/July from the club.
1:46
Meidroth's a really cool player who needs way too much serendipity to get anywhere meaningful in fantasy
Vaughn Grissom
1:46
Do you see a path to playing time in Atlanta this year?  If not what are the odds he gets traded this summer?
Brad Johnson
1:46
They didn't re-sign Dansby because of this guy. I doubt they'll trade him.
1:47
He'll be back whenever Arcia's career-year reverts to rep level performance.
Dynasty Depressed
1:48
I am in a 24 dynasty team without contracts. What is the best way to rebuild? Most of my top players are injured or stock is low (Stanton, Rendon, DeGromm). Do I trade role players for prospects or truly blow it up?
Brad Johnson
1:48
It depends on the competitiveness of the league. If you can recruit a co-manager who is much sharper than you on minors guys, that'll really jumpstart your rebuild.
1:49
Unfortunately, unhealthy old guys aren't going to get you much in a trade. Can explore the options but probably have to sit on them
1:51
Some hot tips for you to add: Ricardo Cabrera, Kenni Gomez, Rafael Ramirez, Emmanuel Tejada, Matt Rudick, Nathan Martorella
Some will probably be rostered, hopefully not all
Also, Felnin Celestin and Michael Arroyo
Stroman but please not Astroman
1:52
A Cubs-Stroman reunion should happen at a team friendly four years $100 million, all guaranteed, no trade clause, no opt-outs.  No other pitcher doing this well could be had so cheap.  But if the match falls apart, what do you think about getting one of two post-hype top 100 prospects - either Gavin Stone from Dodgers or Alek Thomas from Diamondbacks.  Both have limited luster at the moment, but would be huge gets for a three-month rental, especially Stone.

I pride myself in answering all the questions, but this is a fantasy chat. Tim has asked I stick to fantasy :)
Buff

NL only keeper, please rank: James Outman, Pavin Smith, Emmanuel Rivera. Brief comments would be appreciated.
Brad Johnson
1:53
Outman has the batted ball characteristics to get somewhere low-key Joey Gallo-ish. (Most of Gallo's career has been good for fantasy!)
If it's daily moves, you can use him most days he starts. Dodgers are going to protect him from bad matchups for his swing path.
1:54
Outman's no floor, high ceiling
Pavin is almost the opposite. Floor is pretty high when he plays. The ceiling isn't great, though it's very clear he's trying to change that.
1:55
Presently, the steeper swing path isn't quite working
1:56
Rivera's weird. He's one of those guys who is going to get passed around the league as an emergency starter.
Arms: Catch and Release
1:56
Are any of these arms notably above the others? Woo, Canning, Kikuchi, Sears?
Brad Johnson
1:57
I like Sears most in terms of pitchability, but his context sucks enough to drag him down to the others.
Woo has some strikeout upside, but I think he's going to suffer from homeritis
GBS42
1:58
Ian Happ has done nothing lately. Stick it out or replace with Connor Joe or Garrett Cooper?
Brad Johnson
1:58
I'd stick with Happ
Buff

Is Bobby Miller the real deal? It seems strange that he's outperforming his AAA numbers by so much, somewhat like Drey Jameson and Ryne Nelson did last year. Are there solid reasons why he won't come back to earth?
Brad Johnson
2:00
I think I identified the reason for the overperformance, he was working on things in the minors. Now they're letting him attack more. I think he can roughly pitch to his 3.22 xFIP. Maybe treat him as a 3.70 ERA guy. K per inning, solid WHIP, good run support, lots of 4-5 IP appearances.
Dano
2:00
Are Barria, Curry, Teheran or Olson better options than Bradish?
Brad Johnson
2:00
No
Heaney
2:00
I've heard some say Heaney is busted and others say it was just a couple bad starts. Do you have a take?
Brad Johnson
2:01
I haven't dug in on a pitch-action level which is what I'd need to do to declare a guy broken.
Absent that evidence, I wouldn't panic. The Rays are a terrible matchup for left-handed fly ball pitchers. The Mariners are a good team too.
Not Tom
2:02
I promise I’m not Tom
