Fantasy Baseball Chat with Brad Johnson

Brad Johnson

That's partly because I think he got hosed in 2021

Where would you project me amongst SP and top 100 overall?
Brad Johnson
1:53
I'm not a list guy. I'll give you some numbers though and you can decide where they fit.
1:54
First, he's improved over past iterations. But he also had some rust which has led to inconsistency. And inconsistency is something that's haunted him historically.
In any case, I view him as a 3.25 ERA pitcher with around 10.00 K/9 and 2.00 BB/9. His penchant for staying in the zone might get him into trouble sometimes.

Mookie!
Nl mvp
1:54
Why not Betts? He's a full win better in fWAR?
Woodberry
1:54
Acuna is super human, but without Mookie the Dodgers season would not look like this.
Brad Johnson
1:55
Hey, I'm a fantasy guy. Acuna has the numbers I care about.
fwiw, I don't believe Acuna is a -10 run defender. So I see them as tied in fWAR
SP ROS
1:56
Bryce Miller or Erod?
Brad Johnson
1:57
Feels wrong to say this, but probably ERod.
Mr Bonkers
1:57
Mauricio or Julien ROS?
Brad Johnson
1:57
Julien
You'll need a second player to cover his games against LHP
he always sits
1:58
Mauricio is also the better play if you need SB juice.

In a H2H OBP 6x6 would you rather keep a guy like Carroll who has wheels and gives you a little bit of everything or a dude like Lou Bob who absolutely mashes?
Brad Johnson
1:58
Carroll
I like those all-category foundation pieces.
Censor police
1:59
You should ask the staff if they like censoring freedom of speech. Closing comments on articles is asinine. Why even post things just let people read about it from other sources

Keeper league (9 keepers, 10 teams) -- must keep or try to move for draft picks (and keep someone else)?
Brad Johnson
1:59
Must keep imo
2:00
Like, let's say he's a .220 AVG guy. He's still going to hit 25 bombs and steal 50 bases or something crazy like that.
And he might well figure out Tatis-mode. I think he will.

Along with the trend of teams using pitchers as openers, should teams also start to use bench players who are great at fielding but who hit below the Mendoza line as openers for the first inning by having them to bat 8th and 9th and thus for all practical purposes not at all?
Brad Johnson
2:01
Current roster design doesn't really allow for this.
September perhaps notwithstanding
Were the league to further constrain bullpen size, possibly.
2:03
I think it would have to be a weird situation. Like if the Phillies didn't view Kyle Schwarber as a must-start, they could use a Pache/Rojas/Marsh outfield and pop Schwarber in there for come-from-behind purposes.
That's like a +40 defense OF...

Thoughts on Michael King ROS? Could he be a sneaky RP addition for k/ratio cats?
Brad Johnson
2:04
He's solid, yes. He might even get some saves.

In my daily roto league, I've benched mediocre SPs with tough matchups throughout the year and have regretted it 80% of the time. In that format, should all pitchers be started with a few exceptions?
Brad Johnson
2:05
I'd want to look at what you're doing on a more micro level. That said, I try to only permanently roster SP who I'm going to use in almost any matchup.
2:06
It's been such a weird year though. Like, how many teams actually have a scary offense?
I'd say it's the Braves, Dodgers, and that's it.
Texas has a couple specific guys who are tough. The Rays have their matchup voodoo but usually predictably struggle against GB guys.
2:07
Phillies might finally be waking up
