Your best is to target flawed, younger players and hope to get lucky

Your welcome. I probably should have mentioned for the non-FO subs, this will be my last fantasy chat. I'll miss them. I love the chat format.

Chris Paddock with the rare 0-pitch appearance the other day. Would you speculate on him as a late add as a potential 2024 keeper? Or is he just "a guy" at this point in his career?
Brad Johnson
1:46
I'm ignoring him.

What do you think of Sebastian Walcott? Does he have top 20 or so ceiling as a prospect or is he a bit over hyped and will stay further down the list as he ages?
Brad Johnson
1:47
the range of outcomes on Walcott is enormous
1:48
He probably needs to totally reconstruct his swing, but he's athletic enough to do it. And he has promise as a defender.
So yea, the ceiling is there, but the median outcome is probably Quad-A-ish imo.
1:49
If you have shares in deep dynasty, it's a waiting game. Those in shallower formats should look to players with more actualized skills.

Best advice for this week?  Championship week …. FA pool trade advice.
Brad Johnson

I feel like a broken record, but you need to identify what you need to go get, what you need to protect, and who on the wire could help with either. And if you're twiddling your thumbs because you already have all the best answers, take a look at it from your opponent's perspective and try to block them.

Why is Scott Servais so committed to giving starts to middling utility player?
Brad Johnson
1:52
Not a fantasy question, but I'm wondering what you would do in his shoes. At last one of Josh Rojas, Jose Cabellero, or Dylan Moore has to start at 2B. That's the state of the roster.

Hold on to or drop Kyle Harrison and Taj Bradley in 12 team dynasty?
Brad Johnson
1:53
I'd have to know your opportunity costs. I think Taj is a lot closer to fantasy relevance than Harrison.
Question
1:53
Will you be at 2023 first pitch arizona?
Brad Johnson
1:54
Alas, I have a writer's conference on the same weekend. At least it's a local conference. I'm hoping to carve out space for FPAZ next year. Haven't been since 2021. Miss y'all!

Pablo Lopez or Nola, who's the better keeper in a points league next year?  I'm a Twins homer so I'm leaning towards Pablo but even year Nola is tempting
Brad Johnson
1:55
I think I still like Nola more, but that's one I'd want some time to digest the season to decide upon. Either choice is justifiable.

I have one last day to throw SPs and I need as many QS’s as possible. My options are either Thursday or Saturday and can have max 5 pitchers. Which side do you like better: Ragans @ DET, Kremer vs BOS, Megill vs MIA, and Pfaadt @ CWS Or Kikuchi vs TB, Wicks @ MIL, Gibson vs BOS, Schmidt @ KC, Cristopher Sanchez @ NYM, Taj @ TOR, Quantrill @ DET, Kutter @ BAL.
Brad Johnson
1:56
I'd go for the Thursday play, in part because the Saturday play has a bad habit of mutating.

Would you sit Machado for CES this week, since Machado will likely be shut down once Padres are officially eliminated?
Brad Johnson
1:56
That's a tough one. I like the thought. It's aggressive. I think it's a yes.

i'm looking at deeper end of season pickups Between Luis Baez, David Festa, Luis Morales, Sal Stewart, Dyan Jorge, Echedry Vargas. anyone jump out from this list?
Brad Johnson
1:57
Echedry has the most buzz from that group

Brad Johnson

Braxton Garret has been pitching well this month.  Do you think he has figured out to be another Ace for the Marlins?
Brad Johnson
2:00
I think he's cemented himself as a starter, which I always thought was rather unlikely. Not an ace though.
He just doesn't have the stuff. He's a smoke and mirrors guy. Takes half a decade of success for these types to be called aces. Even Maddux wasn't considered an ace for the early stage of his career.

Do any of the wizards you write about have psychic ability when it comes to fantasy baseball?
Brad Johnson
2:02
I don't have any wizards set on Earth just yet. I do sneak in references to fantasy baseball. Usually in the style of the Parks and Rec law firm.

Would you deal Alonso and Bryce Harper for Juan Soto in a Keep 5 league- if I cant keep them both?
Brad Johnson
2:02
Is it OBP?
2:03
That's tough, because I kinda view Harper as just better in 2024. But there will come a time when that flips.
So it's maybe get 5% worse in 2024 and 10-20-30% better in future seasons.
I'd shop that pair a little more first.
