Well look, I think this year more than ever, you need excellent and reliable starting pitching. But the innings are obviously a little less important right now, and you can take a few more chances. Still, I want one or two backbones. But if you are looking for cheaper options, I like Kenta Maeda and Dylan Bundy if we are going super deep.

Who isn't in the first round (top 12) next year and who replaces them?
Dan Harris
2:51
Arenado, because he gets traded out of Colorado before the start of the season. Jose Ramirez hops back in after a major bounceback season.

Best sleepers from the pitcher position? My staff is weak behind Bieber, Scherzer, and Nola
Dan Harris
2:53
I mean, that's a pretty nice top 3 so I wouldn't be too concerned.I do expect Josh James to get the 5th starter's job, I own a ton of Mike Foltynewicz after his slider got back to business in September, I've mentioned Dylan Bundy non-stop because I'm boring, and I think Joe Musgrove and Chris Archer benefit from the Pirates' change in approach.

Is this finally the year that Miguel Sano puts it all together?
Dan Harris
2:55
Actually yes, yes it is. You know how hard Sano hits the ball. You know he can pop 50 homers over a full season. It’s about two things – Will the Twins just let him be and accept the 36% strikeout rate? Since they signed him to a three-year deal, the answer seems like yes. And will he let himself go like he did two years ago? Seems like he turned a corner so I say no and I’m good with him.

What is Bill O'Brien doing?
Dan Harris
2:57
At the moment? Probably debating trading Deshaun Watson for a sixth-round pick. Generally? No clue. Rare to see a trade that pretty much every person’s immediate reaction is that it’s a joke. I can’t pretend to see the bigger picture that O’Brien thinks everyone is missing.

When might be the best time of day, week, or preseason to do an auction or draft and win prizes? Maybe there is data that indicates owner engagement is lower if they built a team at X time.
Dan Harris
3:00
Not sure there's an optimal day of the week or time. Generally speaking, early in an offseason/spring training is better if you know what you're doing? Casual players don't get heavily involved until the spring is almost over in my experience. But, other than earlier in the offseason, really don't think there is an optimal time.

Is the MLB going back to the old ball or should we expect the same "juiced ball" results
Dan Harris
3:02
When I did my projections, I assumed the ball was going back to the old one, but that's purely speculation based on two things. First, the ball seemed to have changed in the post-season, perhaps suggesting MLB made a conscious effort. And anecdotal evidence from the spring, like Tanaka saying the seams feel normal again. So, I'm thinking the juiced ball era ends for the moment. But again, mostly speculation.

How much does position scarcity factor into your draft?
Dan Harris
3:02
Obviously, my rankings factor in positional scarcity, so to that extent, a ton. But during drafts, it’s much more about my tiers than it is about the depth at any specific position. If I’m near the end of a tier at one position, but have plenty left in another, then I’ll take the similarly ranked player who is near the end of the tier even if his position is less scarce. It’s always on my mind, but not a driving force.

Best SiriusXM or podcasts for fantasy baseball?
Dan Harris
3:04
I mean, you know we have a fantasy baseball podcast, right? You know during the season I do a 15-minute daily podcast ready for you first thing in the morning to catch you up on what you missed and that Bobby has analysts from all over the injury? That's my favorite and the only one I currently listen to. But, to be fair, I don't have SiriusXM anymore!
Rob
3:04
Who are your favorite late round SPs besides the ones you've listed already here?
Dan Harris
3:06
I've listed so many, ROB! Why do you keep making me list more? I hate so much about the thing you choose to be. FINE! I think Dylan Cease has a chance to be really, really good if everything breaks right. I think Marcus Stroman could have a very nice year after improving his core all offseason and if he can keep his strikeout gains. And if Mitch Keller can stop getting destroyed in the first inning, I'd be interested.
Dansby Swanson
3:06
Am I going to return to my pre-injury self from 2019 or was that a fluke?
Dan Harris
3:07
Little of both. Swanson was really, really good before his injury derailed his season, and it was largely backed up by the data. But as I always say, the metrics and statcast data just tell us what has happened, and they aren't necessarily predictive. Swanson was a big prospect and has talent, so I expect him to be good, but not quite sure 2019 pre-injury is where he'll get back to.

I have a draft this Friday and Yahoo rankings is all over the place and doesn't account for the delay in the season. I think I can get some value guys in the late rounds who's expected to be back before the season starts. thoughts on taking advantage of rankings + injured players
Dan Harris
3:08
Um, yah! Dom, that question is basically am I allowed to be smarter than my leaguemates? Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

Is it worth punting steals and saves if I’m in a 10x10 league? I feel it would be more value to draft guys to help me in the other cats.
Dan Harris
3:09
Ok, 10x10, I'm ok with punting. I almost always hate it, but with that many categories, you can get away with it. I still wouldn't because I just don't punt, but I won't be mad at you for it there.

10 team AL only auction: fair to do a 80/20 split?
Dan Harris
3:10
Your split isn't really about how you want to allocate your money as much as it is how you think the league will allocate its money. Because if you're doing an 80/20 split then you will think your hitter values are AH-MAZING and pitchers are going for a crazy amount. But if you're asking can you spend 80 percent of your money at the auction on hitting, I mean, sure. Whatever you want. Doesn't really seem advisable to me but you do you!

3:10
Will collective bargaining contracts limit double headers for player safety   if not will catchers and pitchers be most impacted by games played?
Dan Harris
3:11
I honestly do not know about the CBA and its impact! But if not, then sure, catchers won't play their normal share of games. Don't overthink it yet though.

I postponed my keeper league draft indefinitely for many different reasons mainly for the possibility of no games and managers tipping their hand going into next year.  How do you suggest handling draft dates for this year and would you just carry over all keepers and picks into next year if this season is cancelled.
Dan Harris
3:13
Great question and one I'm dealing with myself. Mine are all postponed indefinitely and it will depend on when the season starts. I'm likely going to put it to a vote, but I think for me, if we get more than half a season,we will play it out as normal. If not, then carry ut over.

I have the first pick in a 12 team keeper league.  Bellinger, Bregman, and Morton are my keepers.  I’m trying to win now rather than look toward the future.  Alvarez, Bogaerts, or Harper with that first pick?
Dan Harris
3:13
Alvarez for me. Delay helps the concerns about his knee.
Carlgotgame
3:13
During this extended offseason, has anyone thought about creating a fantasy league with past and current players where a computer would randomly pick a game on the current day i.e. June 2 from any year of that players career? That would be a fun fantasy league to play in -- is there anything out there like that?
Dan Harris
3:13
ANYONE OUT THERE WANT TO DO THIS??? Let's go!
CovidKid
3:14
Will there be a leading off podcast this season.
Dan Harris
3:15
Gonna do some episodes this week or next, yes. But obviously, the point of it kind of focuses on recapping the previous day's games, so a bit tough!
Bob
3:16
Our draft is Monday night. Would you advise postponing it until we get a date for basebalkl to resume and we can set it for a weeek or so before that. Thank you.
Dan Harris
3:16
I'm ok either way but I would personally postpone.
