OK! You heard it here first!!! TOS #39 page in next auction! True first appearance of black alien goo!!
Nick Barrucci
3:19
It was around, but I wasn't comfortable with the price.  The scary part is, if I didn't bid, it would have went for $7,250
Pete
3:19
I was happy the Don Rosa art stayed affordable:)
Kelsey S
3:19
yes those as well!
Nathan S.
3:19
So…..who else is pretty much at a forced collection liquidation at these prices? We are VERY close to prices where I am going to have to sell a lot of my collection.
Kelsey S
3:19
Exactly what I was going to bring up next!

3:20
I got a spidey page with an ink blot, could it be Venom?
Felix Lu
3:20
@Marcus...yes!! And if an ink blot appears on my page, that doesn't appear on the published page, it shouldn't matter! GIMME YOUR FUGAZI ELECTRIC MONEY NOW!
Nick Barrucci
3:20
Marc G, and it hit $78,000, which basically is $80,000
Gene Park
3:20
Wow, I didn't see where that TOS 39 page ended up.  In this market, a TOS #39 page with 3 images of Tony Stark, even not in costume, for $90K seems like a good buy to me
Jason DAmbosio
3:21
The amazing thing about that auction to me, was some of the prices realized were considerably more then you could buy similar examples of on dealer/artists websites!
Fisch Benz
3:21
Exciting time to be a collector!
Felix Lu
3:21
Interesting times, at least, for sure!
Nick Barrucci
3:21
I don't know abou tselling @Nathan.  I always go with be happy with what you have and appreciate it.  Most important thing.
Kelsey S
3:21
@ Marcus Everything is venom until proven otherwise
Rob Rusch
3:21
I guess it's all retrospective, but I'm a little surprised the bidders on SW8 didn't make huge offers on the covers for ASM 300, SW8 ASM 252 first
Jason DAmbosio
3:21
@nick B if you didnt bid our mutual friend would have been very upset!
Roman Roy
3:21
Two images of stark...one in a speedo.
Felix Lu
3:22
That sounds like 100 Bitcoin to me, if anything does!
Timothy Guerrero
3:22
I know I have sold somethings and have to send more consignments to pay for my win! Most I've ever paid for a piece of art
Jason M.
3:22
Honestly, I feel like one of the best strategies for staying afloat in this hobby is being able to love under-looked characters and stories (mixed with that aforementioned discipline thing). While this particular story is interesting, I admittedly skip ASM in both art and comic auctions.

would be interesting to get some metrics within the next few days on if an uptick of "make offer to owner" HA.com is seeing.
Nick Barrucci
3:22
Ha Ha Kelsey, in that case, let me buy some black ink ;-)
Ron Lim
3:22
@room, How does one get a fair appraisal on anything these days? Who can be trusted to give a true value... every dealer is a snake waiting to take advantage of you.
Pete
3:22
Some people seem to only trust auctions
Mike Cichy
3:22
Exciting time if you have Scrooge McDuck’s money.
Marc G
3:22
@nick - I have a page from then next issue with gladiator on it. Gang war issue too… all of sudden that one is feeling insanely valuable.
Bill F.
3:22
Hi Felix. Have you ever thought about doing a random drawing to determine bidding order on the very hard to get art from artist such as Nick Klein? Before the art drops, pre approved buyers are sent an email. There name goes goes into a hat. Sort of like a fantasy football draft. Buyers are given a number in order to bid. Hard to explain but, it's kind of like a fantasy football draft. Clock runs out, you. its your chance to pick the art you want. Reason for suggestion: Unless you are really computer savvy and are able to be available at the right time, many miss out. Just a thought.
Barry Sandoval
3:22
That might take a while I think. I'm kind of surprised more people haven't migrated to strip art which I think is still too cheap
Brian K. Vaughan
3:22
Curious if anyone noticed any pieces that went down in value? I saw that R. Crumb "Sunburst" painting that went for $24k last sold for $26k in 2019.
Felix Lu
3:23
@BKV...Glad you brought that up, because it does happen. And collectors should be aware of this reality...not everything goes up!!
Roman Roy
3:23
Actually his speedo looks like it could be Alien Goo, Gene....
Gene Park
3:23
@Nathan S - being able to hold on to your collection at these price levels is the new building a collection, LOL.  I think some of these sales, esp. of the Zeck pages, will make a lot of people scared of selling privately and leaving money on the table (I know that wasn't your question, just an observation)
Nick Barrucci
3:23
yeah, and I was the under bidder on the MCP before the live auction
Roman Roy
3:23
I've been looking for a Garfield strip...anyone know where I can find one?
Will K
3:23
@Barry... does HA track crossover by collectors to other markets, like comics to sports to urban/fine art ??
Barry Sandoval
3:23
@WillK Big-time. Sometimes it comes from unexpected directions. I remember when a lady bought high-dollar animation pieces that she happened to see when she was buying a pricey handbag from us!
Rob T
3:24
@Barry where do you see the market going for the "lower end" pieces that are on the weekly Wednesday night auctions? For a long time you could find some great pieces by named artists for $1-200 range and now it's next to impossible. Do you see that coming back anytime soon?
Gene Park
3:24
@Rob Rusch - " guess it's all retrospective, but I'm a little surprised the bidders on SW8 didn't make huge offers on the covers for ASM 300, SW8 ASM 252 first"

Unless one of them already owns two out of the three...
Nick Barrucci
3:24
I don't think that all dealers are bad Ron.  Sure, some aren't as up front, but wouldn't paint a wide brush.
Connecting…

I’m with Gene, we are going to have four — at least — Fed hikes this year and the world is going to deal with declining risk premiums for the first time in more than a decade
