Good evening to all! Hope everyone is well!
Nick Barrucci

I think it is much more valuable Marc G - Gang War is huge!
Ron Lim
3:24
@Roman, lol
Felix Lu
3:25
@Bill F...have thought of many other ways of distributing the art...but in the end, the way we've been doing has felt the most fair. And the consensus amongst buyers is to keep status quo.

I have no shot at any of these big pages. But I am interested in who bought what.
Joao Antunes
3:25
@Roman Roy, you can find some afordable Garfield strips at Galerie9Art
Ankur
3:25
I was the consignor of the MCP cover. Quite a disappointing result. Not everything goes for crazy money lol
Rob T
3:25
@Roman Roy the weekly Heritage Auctions have had a bunch of Garfield strips over the last year or so. Seems like three or four every week
Jason DAmbosio
3:25
I do know of a handful of pieces that cosigners lost money on in the auction.. the knife cuts both ways
Rob Rusch
3:25
@Gene touche. He could spend 3m
Roman Roy
3:25
Ron Lim gets it!
Gene Park
3:25
@Roman Roy LOL, I think the Speedo is alien goo, as is the tuxedo!
Ron Lim
3:25
@Nick, I had a few dealers give me thoughts on a piece a year ago, and even then I felt they were off by 40-60%
Nick Barrucci
3:25
Brian - what does happen at times, is if something appears in the same auction house within a few years, it's not "new" and there might be less interest for the new pieces
Philip B.
3:25
I was the “guest” post. Sorry.
Nick Barrucci
3:25
BWAHAHAHAHHA Roman!
Marvin Ulloa
3:25
@Felix do you think this crazy market is sustainable? Feels like everything comic related is insane right now. Issues, original art. Even tho he returned it I feel like the Donny
Felix Lu
3:26
@Marvin...who knows. Not being flippant. I really mean I have no idea. But always remember: Nothing goes up forever!
Roman Roy
3:26
#FirstAlienGooTuxedo....someone call Logan Paul and see if he won it.
Marc G
3:26
Also the Neal ADAMS’ art and Tim Sale art went up a ton too I noticed.
Nathan S.
3:26
I got to imaging the guys who have spent 100-200k over the past 10-20 years, who now have collections worth 2-4m have to be really tempted right now…..We might finally see supply grow.

Nothing worse than a gooey speedo

I have been using the crazy Liefeld prices to move into Struzan art more. That art was out of my price range for years and is sooo gorgeous. Like upgrading from a Yugo to a Bentley:)
Ron Lim
3:26
@Roman, I actually bought a Garfield strip a year ago. I figured after Peanuts, it is areguably the best known American strip.
Philip B.
3:26
Yes. Jim Davis consigned a massive amount of strips to Heritage, which are being parceled out.
Nick Barrucci
3:27
I'm sorry to hear that Ron.  That does suck.  But, the market is changing month to month these days
Roman Roy
3:28
Well, Ron, at least your had a choice of strips. That doesn't happen often in our hobby. Not this wide a selection.
Dan T
3:28
I was pleased with the V For Vendetta result.  I didn't buy it & better than my example, but now I don't feel like a complete idiot.
Felix Lu
3:28
@Dan T...it only took the next auction to feel like you got a bargain...welcome to OA collecting 2022
Will K
3:28
@Barry  I get mailing on those handbags, watches, etc... those are definitely for people who know what they want when they see it.
Ron Lim
3:29
If I was getting in now, no way I'd be able to afford anything except new art.
Nick Barrucci
3:29
I was lucky and got the Brent Anderson Kazar and the Tales to Astonish Mandarin Origin that I felt fell between the cracks

Hello everyone. Didn’t hear the podcast but followed the sale. I work in another field of culture (contemporary art) and recents sales have been insane. I am friends with people who work with the vintage watches and, same thing, recent prices have quadrupled in the past two years.Same thing with wine. Not sure I have anything intelligent to say about this phenomena, but it seems that these prices reflect, beyond comics and comic art, the fact that ALL collectable assets, have become major investment vehicles. Wonder if there is anyone in this chat who might have a theory as to why that is.
Philip B.

with respect to Brian K. Vaughn’s comment about strip art, O find I e been looking at the stuff popping up on eBay more and more. Particularly the older stuff. Lots of Pogo available as well.
Roman Roy
3:29
I misread Nick's post as "Mandarin Orange".
Jason DAmbosio

I have to run guys! Let me know if @dant talks smack when I am gone lol
Matt Birdoff

@Marvin Ulloa  As I mentioned in the podcast, a lot of asset prices have slowly been rolling over since Feb. 2021 (as a sports card collector as well, I can tell you that most of that market is down over the past 10 months even as the top 0.01% of sales still make headlines); I really wouldn't be surprised if we are finally at levels where we may see a bit of a consolidation at least.

That said, anything can happen...who knows, now with quality comics/comic art having outpaced most sports cards by triple-digits over the past 10 months, maybe the hot money and YouTube influencers start piling on...we'll see.  But, in the absence of that, I wouldn't be surprised to see some consolidation

@felix thanks for doing these things and the podcast. I gotta jet. But it’s just insane to be a collector rn.
Felix Lu
3:30
@Marc G...you're welcome! See you at the next one!

I’m with Gene, we are going to have four — at least — Fed hikes this year and the world is going to deal with declining risk premiums for the first time in more than a decade
