I believe you are correct @felix
David Barr
3:37
What I find interesting is that Frank Miller art is just heading upwards! Especially Daredevil related!
Will K
3:37
fractional ownership is like "kind of pregnant"
Gene Park
3:37
@Joe F Agreed, fractionals are pricing assets at the value of the marginal share vs. the entire piece...artificially inflating prices for sure.
Philip B.
3:37
Someone is already listing a SW #8 CGC 9.9 for $35k.
Rob T
3:37
@Kelsey S - whenever those mono prints pop up for sale they always seem to be money losers compared to their original sale. Often far below 50% on the ones I've seen
Chuck Arnold
3:37
I find it so odd, but I guess each type of collector collects for their own purpose
Rob Rusch
3:38
It always surprised how high the floor is now for bronze/copper Marvel covers when you can get exceptionally better modern covers for a fraction of the price. Nostalgia at work I guess
Barry Sandoval
3:38
There are 22 Secret Wars 8s in 9.9 by the way!
Felix Lu
3:38
@Barry...any 10.0s?
John Butler
3:38
Well sure @marcus, but the fact that a Key Kirby SA cover could conceivably go for less money than that page just blows my mind and makes me shake my head...
Mike Snitzer
3:38
The risk everyone is exposed to now with this $3.36M page is assuming that outlier is anything but. It isn't actually with $3.36M.. we all know that. So recalibrating all pages as if it were genuinely worth $3.36M is a huge mistake
John Butler
3:38
Funny @Will K
Barry Sandoval
3:38
ANd 4 10s!
marcus wai
3:38
@Rob Rusch - Modern covers have multiple variants
Nick Barrucci
3:38
well, I think that Comic Link got $33,000 for a Secret Wars #8 graded 9.9, so that eseems ok now
Ron Lim
3:39
@Felix, speaking of 10.0s, did you see that Hard Boiled #1 in 10 go for over $5k?
Felix Lu
3:39
@Ron...no. Don't watch comic sales. But thanks for letting me know!
Roman Roy
3:39
People have been trying to sell me "mono-rings" for almost 25 years now. Much like "fetch" it's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, Gretchen!
Glen Berg
3:39
@Kelsey I predict we'll see NFT tech used as a manner of authentication for digital comic art, and that may be a catalyst for an explosive monoprint market. Although that's a double-edged sword...
Gene Park
3:39
@David Barr as someone noted a day or two ago, many of the best Miller DD pages are in very strong hands now.  I know of some INSANE offers that have been made privately (even more insane than when we last talked about this topic a podcast or two ago) and they're just not leaving these collections.  So, when anything good hits the auction block, it's all-out war

@Brian K. Vaughn - missed responding above; hope you feel better soon!
Kelsey S
3:39
hahaha @roman
Philip B.
3:40
I don’t think the FF #48 cover would go for $3 mil. It’s not that interesting a cover. No Surfer. No Galactus. Just a bunch of people, the FF & Watcher standing there. Some of the interior pages would go for way more, IMHO, like the first Surfer page, or the Galactus intro splash.
Mike Perlman
3:40
So many modern artists are going all-digital. I can see a to
Felix Lu
3:40
@Mike...and with a $3.36M sale, a lot of them are going back to paper! So that's one happy consequence of this crazy sale!
Kelsey S
3:40
@Felix that’s why I loved the DWJ print to much best of both worlds limited print run and original art incorporated into the piece
Felix Lu
3:41
@Kelsey...thanks! It was a super-fun project (even if shipping them all out was a bear!)
John Butler
3:41
Well @Philip B I think you understand my point. Replace it with whatever great SA cover or page you want. Stuff that is truly historic.
Mike Perlman
3:42
Sorry… Try again. So many modern artists are going all digital. I can see a time when there is so little new pen/ink art that we did hard collectors will need to find new ways to get our art. Mono and other physical art options will need to be found.
jw
3:42
Monoprints are unappealing, but I wouldn't be surprised if considering the way prices are going right now, artists start releasing numbered print editions of pages that they know are going to fetch ridiculous prices.
Felix Lu
3:43
@Mike and JW...the market will decide. As always. But I certainly hope that's not how the hobby goes. I won't be collecting those, in any case.
Kelsey S
3:43
plus he put the work in making each of them unique was a joy to see them all roll on
Heidjer Staecker
3:43
Hey everyone.
Nick Barrucci
3:43
I think that the right Kirby cover will break a million, and something truly huge will exceed that pending hte characters
Mike Snitzer
3:43
Felix, see that is an overreaction by artists (going back to paper) in response to $3.36M. but no complaints by me to see a swing back to physical ;)
David Barr
3:43
@Gene Park Yeah thanks,So true ! Every auction the realised auction prices are going thru the roof!
marcus wai
3:43
@Gene Park - now that the auction is done and the question answered, is it a big relief?
Mike Perlman
3:43
@felix I have seen many digital artists print blue lines after the fact and ink them by hand and call these originals. No one but the artist knows differently.
Felix Lu
3:44
@Mike...that's an original. So long as the artist draws on the paper. No demerits for using screen tones, either, instead of applying wash.
Heidjer Staecker
3:44
I did notice that the Bachalo Death pages were actually a bit low attention HA, although the Sandman pages did ok.
Connecting…

I’m with Gene, we are going to have four — at least — Fed hikes this year and the world is going to deal with declining risk premiums for the first time in more than a decade
