Hey Rob
Joao Antunes
11:33
Musicians are making concerts from home, Artists are used to be @ home working, public in general is getting used to do the same, so will next conventions be using Zoom with a price tag on it and virtually being able to talk with artists in groups or individually? With a list of first come first can talk? It sure seems we are going to experience a time where many changes (opportunities?) can happen around the hobby and comics in general, anyone have already seen a positive one that will be a game changer and will stay even when we will be able to attend social gatherings again?
Felix Lu
11:35
@Joao...I just talked to a very influential person in the hobby, and there is a major effort underway to do an online art con...keep watching, announcement should happen in next few weeks.
Rob R
11:35
I've been trying to follow #Comics4Creators on twitter. hard format to follow
Felix Lu
11:36
@Rob...yes. That's why I think it should be centralized.
Rob R
11:36
@Jason Howdy! How's it going?
Morgan
11:36
@felix good call waiting to do a fundraiser. Too many places to throw money right now, whether it be these charity auctions or just commissions/art sales to support artists that lost work. I want to help (and get cool art) but I also have to be (somewhat) responsible.
Jimmy S
11:36
I have a question I have been curious about. Can anyone give me any info about why New Warriors pages (Mark Bagley) are hard to find? Was that series really that popular at the time?
Ron Lim
11:36
I'd pay to stream panels and see exclusive movie previews.
Jason K
11:36
Joao - great point. Lots of experimentation happening now
Rob R
11:36
I'm a fan of all the online interaction creators have been doing. It's been a lot more accessible for me than cons
Ron S
11:37
Joao, I think that's already happening.  I feel like I've gotten an ad from Wizard or some con for a virtual meet and greet.
Brent Stringer
11:37
I don't know, I prefer authentic experiences.  It's one thing to receive a commission in the mail from an artist but it's better for me to be handed that same commission from the artist across that artist's con table.
Felix Lu
11:39
@Brent...that's an ideal situation, sure. But not everyone can make it to cons. And...there are unfortunately as many unhappy experiences as happy ones when dealing with artists directly. I will say, that having done this for a while as a collector, it really comes down the art. The experience of meeting the artist just isn't as important for me anymore. Again, just speaking for myself.
Jason K
11:39
I think those small group sessions hero initiative has been setting up seem like they'll have legs
John Espinoza
11:39
@Joao It doesn’t take a genius to know how much it costs just to put a comic con on, so maybe this virtual con will be the future. However, there’s a certain kind of energy being at a con in person that can’t be replicated. I will certainly miss that.
Felix Lu
11:39
I agree.
Rob R
11:39
I think the economic impact on OA and elsewhere is going to be tough to gauge for a few months. I think those who are in position to buy OA aren't going to be impacted immediately, but could if a recession persists
Ron Lim
11:39
I love the streaming sessions artists have been doing. Essential Sequential and Drin and Draw have been awesome.
Newell
11:40
@Brent I'm with you. I enjoy seeing artists reaction to my reaction when I receive a commission. I've been laughed at more than once when my jaw has dropped lol.
Brent Stringer
11:40
Not down for "virtual" cons.  Being in Hall H in 2010 and seeing Jon Favreau bring out Harrison Ford to sit down next to Daniel Craig is an experience that can't be dulipcated online.
Kolin V
11:40
@Joao Just recently Spectrum Art did their yearly awards online and it was fantastically done!
Rob R
11:40
@Brent for sure! but I know for myself and others it can be pretty difficult to make it out to cons to have those experiences - or to have them as frequently as we'd like
Joao Antunes
11:40
@ Felix That will be interesting because it might gather even more people than a regular con and with more specific interests, it seems a win win, is a way people from all over the world can attend
Jason K
11:41
I remember hearing that Morrison-Con was a huge success as far as fan reaction. Maybe these smaller scale high-priced experiences may start to happen more often
Felix Lu
11:41
@Jason...if it's more than 10 people, same issue applies.
John Espinoza
11:41
@Jimmy S: I’m not a NW fans. But following the market in general, NW pages will drop every so often on eBay. Less so now than a couple of years ago. They do go for premium prices. Upper three figures. Keep an out and be prepare to pay. (The scarcity probably means they were bought back then and not let go.)
Mike (artless)
11:41
@joao Many businesses are suffering now, of course, but many others are discovering they can thrive using videoconferencing etc.  I'd be delighted if OA cons could be done virtually over the coming months --- I haven't been able to get away to these in person over the last few years anyhow.  I wonder how dealers would display their wares, though?  Wouldn't be able to flip through portfolios.
Rob R
11:43
I purchase one of the hero initiative sessions with Cates & Meg. Excited to see how that experience is
Jimmy S
11:43
@John Espinoza Thank you for the info.
Ron Lim
11:43
@Mike Portfolios could be PDFs or web pages created for the virtual show and artists could do commissions via stream.
Jason K
11:43
Mike - are you artless artmore?
Keith B
11:45
@Rob R how are you sir?
Mike (artless)
11:45
@Jason K I am indeed artless artmore!
Rob R
11:45
@Keith doing great! surviving. Fortunately still working all sorts of crazy hours. Yourself?
Jason K
11:46
Mike - pleasure to know your name now!
Felix Lu
11:46
@Jason...Mike is (kinda) local, too.
Ron Lim
11:47
Stepping out for lunch, fellas. See ya later if you're still on.
Jason K
11:47
Cool! I'll msg u on CAF Mike!
Mike (artless)
11:47
@felix I'm surprised to partly agree with you on this, but it's true that some of my favorite artists are not people I deal with because of the interaction.  But I absolutely love meeting artists and writers in person.  Haven't met the artists in your stable, but they all seem like great people, which encourages sales, I'm sure.
Connecting…

@felix I'm halfway through the currently available Mort Cinder hardcover.  The stories are so-so for me, but the visual style and storytelling are wonderful for my taste, and I think are considered groundbreaking in their day by the cognoscenti.
