At this time, no. Sorry!

We're quite selective about the shows we attend. But will certainly consider any invites by any shows that want to have us as guests. The reality, though, is that almost every artist is working on a monthly book, so schedules are tight. We're just not able to do all the shows that are out there.

I rarely get to cons so my ONLY commission is from Rob Guillory almost five years ago!
James
1:03
@Felix Edinburgh Comic Con was not the same without any of your there last weekend! They need to come to more UK cons!
Felix Lu
1:03
Heh...I just figured out which James you are!
As for UK cons...see above!
Joren

@reba Thanks ha! I think I'm just lucky with the time we live in now and Felix doing such a good job giving the opportunity to everyone! I only have two pages yet, one from Daniel's EXTREMITY and one from James Harren when he was on RUMBLE! Not sure how much more I will add to the collection but I just had to get one from these two, I love their work!
James
1:04
@Josh it ranged from $1k for a sketchcard to $15k for 11x17
Felix Lu
1:06
I know those rates elicited the predictable reaction amongst various collector groups. But I never understand the anger...if the rates are too high, move on. Like everything else in this life.
Josh Hall
1:07
@James holy! Wow! To each their own. Rob Guillory is my fave artist but I could never afford any art from him if it was that much haha. My cover was $700
Chris

No worries Felix, I just know Burnham was in artist alley last year. I was hoping he would be here again.
Reba J

@Felix - gotta have no shame in changing your mind when an opinion is tested. More than happy for Fiona to test my resolve on this with Saga pages and have me fail the test. You can mock me if I ever get an EoW one too. Interestingly, the main problem I have with the 1/1 prints is how expensive they are - single or limited prints should be a good way for people to get some special art on the wall without breaking the bank...
Felix Lu
1:09
That's a big part of how I feel. I am happy to buy a print or poster of the art. I'm a fan! But I don't want to pay a premium for the privilege of owning a manufactured collectible "1/1" print.
1:11
It is, in my view, the artist wanting to have their cake and eat it, too. They want all the benefits of working digitally, while still having the original art market of a traditional artist. I believe that if you choose to work 100% digitally, the trade-off is forfeiting an original art market.
Josh Hall
1:12
Exactly. I am not personally a fan of Jim Lee but it’s all about what you want as a collector. And I found the detail email. Apparently he hasn’t taken commission requests in 15 years so I see the appeal for fans.
James
1:12
Agreed (with Felix and Josh) - I'm not the biggest Jim Lee fan so I have no horse in that race. But I wonder if it affects the wider market.
Felix Lu
1:13
Possibly. But Jim Lee is such a unique case. It'd be hard for any other artist to try to attach their horse to his wagon.

Felix - Any insight on how to track down older published pages from a specific issue? Like say, some early 90s Sal Buscema Spider-Man?
Felix Lu
1:15
Nothing in this hobby comes easy, especially older vintage art. So no quick answers for you there, other than you have to roll up your sleeves and put in the work.
Reba J
1:15
@Joren- starting your collection with DWJ and Harren. Sheesh. I'd like to say well done but I also want you to stop buying Harren because I don't want the competition! Heh!
Chris
1:15
Will James Harren be selling any of his warm ups? Ive seen him post some great stuff!
Felix Lu
1:15
Very possibly! Some of it is quite personal to him, and he'd rather keep. Others, he may consent to let go. Please keep watching!
Robert Angus
1:20
Who’s art do you think has appreciated in value the most in the past ten years?
Felix Lu
1:21
Probably Kirby. The "right" Kirby, anyway.
Joren
1:22
@reba can't promise that :D but don't worry, I'm not earning that much money on these vacation jobs, commissions pieces are still out of my range
Felix, you made my day with saying that, ha!
Michael Dhonau
1:22
Hey all. While we're getting everyones blood boiling on 1/1 prints, I just saw some Janin pages from his recent Batman run get listed for $1k - $1.5k  I didn't realize people were charging that much for those things.
Felix Lu
1:22
If he can get it, more power to him. Just not for me.
1:24
There's so much "real" art one could get for that (or less). But I suppose if that's from a favorite run, then the heart wants what the heart wants.
1:25
I think of my absolute favorite books. though...like DKR or WATCHMEN...if the only art available was via 1:1 prints, I would still pass.
Chris
1:26
I'm curious with a commission like the Star Wars Paul Pope, how do you come up with a price point on something like that which isnt a common request?
Felix Lu
1:27
I work it out with the artist, and then the collector. Usually, we have a rate and either the collector can do it, or they can't. With SW, though, there was already a precedent: George Lucas himself had already commissioned Paul to do something similar (multi-page sequence). So we based the rate for this most current request off of that.
Michael Dhonau
1:27
@Reba says Im not allowed buying anymore James Harren art?  :'(
Felix Lu
1:28
Sorry, Michael, you must obey The Reba!
(I think she'll let you have something if you ask nicely, though.)
David M
1:28
Will Paul Pope be sketching at the con or just signing? Really looking forward to meeting him and the crew. Batman Year 100 is tied for me with Year One as my favorite Batman stories.
Felix Lu
1:30
Will definitely be signing. Don't know about sketching yet. Not every artist is wired to sketch on demand. Also, a lot of their willingness may be tied to their mood on that particular day. So please just come see us early at the show to check!

Im just happy I was able to buy stuff from Mitch Gerads before he went all digital toward the end of Punisher.  Loved his Punisher run.
Felix Lu
1:32
It breaks my heart when artists whose work I enjoy go all-digital. I do understand the decision, however. It's often a simple economic calculation: Whatever they may lose from original art sales, is made up (or more) by being able to put out more work on the stands, more consistently. And that's before any quality-of-life considerations.
Reba J
1:32
@Michael D - some of those Janin prints have sold too. They are lovely but I hope people got them because they loved them while knowing what they are and not because they didn't read the fine print only to find out later...and YES all the Harren art should be mine! You can have something if I've passed on it I suppose...

I think it's a good balance though, as you can easily change composition for example

I'm not sure. Not having it listed properly so it doesn't show to people properly.
