Like anyone, you develop for eye for those who you know will get you a good one, others who don't deliver what you were expecting
Eranga D
12:45
@Rob E - totally agree. Sitting there and harping on it is basically the FB equivalent of loving the sound of your own voice

Hey all! Just wanted to say HI and, fwiw, I think you've been doing it right Felix. I've bought a fair share through you and your artists and think you've been great. I've said this on more than one occasion, the hobby has evolved and prices have changed, all that means is I have to be more thoughtful in where I spend. But the lens through which a collector evaluates is going to be different and that's OK! What's not for me may be great for someone else or vice versa.
Felix Lu
12:45
Thanks Alan! And yes, we all have to adapt. The world doesn't revolve around any one of us (although I wish it did:P).

When will we get a new podcast and video? Its been to  long without a video of OA!
Rez
12:46
Were you guys planning on coming to comicpalooza this year?
Felix Lu
12:46
Sorry, no. As it happened, this was a year where the vast majority of guys were going to be sitting out shows, due to their work schedules. This was going to be our lightest schedule since we've started. Independent of pandemic.

@Pat L, I'm super happy with my Artist Choice from Ian... so happy i jumped back on for another Artist Choice in the most recent list

Only comments that you agree with or that you care to debate get approved? How convenient. There are several great points being made from the other side. Have fun feeding your own ego.
Felix Lu
12:47
No, I'm just working my way through them. Everything gets posted. I welcome a healthy debate, in case you haven't noticed.
12:48
And sorry you don't feel strongly enough about your own position, that you have to use an alias. A bit weak.
Joe

Mark, I think any who’s been in the hobby long enough has a commission clunker or two. For me, what I’ve found is that I prefer to get “at home” commissions than “convention style” sketches. They usually cost a bit more, but in my opinion, they are definitely worth it.
Felix Lu
12:48
I reached the same conclusion myself.
Alan H
12:48
My collecting has shifted more towards published because of the price difference, but that's my choice and it's not a knock on what an artist may ask for a commission.
Pat L
12:48
@Felix - any chance Leslie will be opening up commissions?
Felix Lu
12:48
Sorry, unlikely anytime soon.

@Dan T / @Eranga D —Your first 4 years is comprised of fast-paced acquisitions! Then you begin to slow it down...just a bit ;)

Ken Lashley does something cool at shows where you basically tell him how much you can spend and he creates something accordingly.  Understand that you are mostly providing 11x17 options and that's cool, but might be nice to offer a few of those from time to time.  Just a thought.  I've bought a lot from you, but over the $700 price always makes me uneasy (not saying they aren't worth it)

12:49
@jamchinder @rudra @Newell great points! Last thing I'll say, some pretty mediocre lawyers charge $300 an hour. the best charge $1,000. so these guys want some of the best comic artists to ever touch a pen to work for them for $20-$40 an hour? they can go F themselves. seriously. appreciate their hard-earned skill and don't try to deny them a good living.

LOL, This  has turned into a fun anti facebook B-session lol

Good afternoon!  So I saw the post in the FB group Sketch Prices.  What is the chat for exactly?
Felix Lu
12:50
You can start from the beginning and work your way through. Please post under your name next time.
Newell Turner

Felix - agree 100%. It's someone I would still love to get a commissions from some day. It just didn't work out that time, and now I have a better idea of what he's willing to work on for when I'm ready to try again.

Sorry, just saw I needed to type in my name.

So I saw this chat posted in the FB group Sketch Prices, what is the chat about?  Is it just a chat in general?

Thanks!

Speaking of commission lists, any possibility Nick D will be opening his up anytime in the near future?
Felix Lu
12:50
Sorry, not very likely. But will announce via...you know;)

Something I’ve always wondered, and haven’t seen disclosed before Tradd’s list... if an artist is going to take 20 spots, does it matter what collectors request for size options? If all 20 are smaller options, do you open more spots? Conversely, if everyone requests top tier options do you ever have to shorten the list from what you planned on taking?
Felix Lu
12:51
We set aside 10 spots for bust, 10 for the larger sizes. The larger sizes are a mix, depending on what the collector wants.

Hi everyone! Gee there's been some great commission lists this year. Navigating your way through what you want most against what you can afford is the fun (and pain) of collecting. If I had a bigger budget...I'd just have different things I couldn't afford. Lol!

Felix, and the whole group. With new comic releases, and their original art, being on hold for the moment (hopefully returning May 20th) What in the Original Art market is currently  getting you excited? Is it focusing on getting new commissions or seeing what older published material is out there?
Pat L
12:52
For anyone who hasn't checked it out, DWJ's new youtube channel is really great!  Makes me like his art even more

Art collecting, like life, its all relative.

I'd love for there to one day be original content from your combined (some or all) group - an anthology or something, maybe on Kickstarter on the like.  It seems like everyone is friends so a series of shorts, or a collaborative story where each artist takes it forward in weird and wonderful directions would blow my (and others?) mind(s).
Felix Lu
12:52
Something we've considered...one of many things on the to-do list!
Jason K
12:53
@benno @felix I was thinking about that point. Any thoughts on why? Maybe single image with some emotional investment. More are appreciating the art itself than the significance of a story it came from?
Felix Lu
12:53
People want what they want...and with a commission, they can make that happen. Or as close to it as possible. I think that's the motivations.
Jay
12:53
Dragotta opening up again anytime soon?
Felix Lu
12:53
See above.
