A British gallery chain as is settling Stan Lee signed canvass prints for some $2,000
Andy Robbins
12:31
I just can't see them deleting the file - to much of a reason to keep it around for future printings/books/collections

@Felix - I will say that I was sorta rethinking that WW DE#3 complete but almost relieved to hear that it's gone.  At least my wallet is relieved.
Felix Lu
12:32
@Pat...It's an amazing issue, can't wait for fans to read it.
Andy Robbins
12:32
Lag is due to the fact we're all on moederation!
or moderation
Mark Tomlinson
12:32
@Andy...I'll check it out. I'm afraid it will be the same people trying to sell the same overpriced/overviewed art.
@But I hope I'm wrong
Rob Rusch
12:32
IMO, another interesting aspect of digital vs tradition is consensus. Current consensus is a print is not equitable to traditional. Will that consensus change if digital becomes more popular? I'd like to think I wouldn't, but I'm sure I would cave if everyone decided 1/1 digital prints were valuable
Pat L
12:33
I'm definitely interested in the CAF VCC!
Felix Lu
12:33
@Mark...I agree, key will be the material.
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:33
@Felix, I totally respect and appreciate that stance. These seem to be very tricky waters to tread because at the end of the day the art still requires blood, sweat, tears, and talent. And yes, there is a great deal of trust that goes into buying one of one digital artwork...
Felix Lu
12:35
@Nathan...it's definitely "art" and it represents the artist's talent/skills...it's just not "original art", at least how we view that in this hobby. That's all.
Again, as I just see them as prints (or posters), I'm OK with them at that level. I'd hang them on my wall and appreciate them. But I'm not paying a premium for them, certainly not at the same levels as original art.
Rob Rusch
12:35
I'm super stoked for the virtual art con. I don't have a lot of time to get out to cons, so it's an interesting format to me
Andy Robbins
12:35
I thought it was funny that mitch was accepting consignments for it
Rob Rusch
12:35
you arguably get all the same stuff at live cons too.
Rudra
12:35
Thank @Rob, I’ll message you on CAF
Morgan
12:35
the manager of my local comic shop told me a story about him commissioning an artist, and it not being communicated that it was a digital commission... so he paid $300 and was sent a file. To top it all off, he saw the artist at a con later on and he was selling prints of the digital commission. Yikes.
Mark Tomlinson
12:35
@Felix...Absolutely. I can somewhat forgive overpriced if there's some new and interesting things that show up. But if it's what I fear it will be, then it will be a big disappointment.
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:35
@Rob, I totally get that. Lucky for you, it doesn't seem too many of CGR's books are done digitally! Or at least...not yet!
Matt Todd
12:35
@Andy I am intrigued. Cautiously optimistic. Missing the con experience and if this virtual co  is the closest I can get for now, IW I'll definitely be there.
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:35
@Lambo, haha! Exactly.
Mark Tomlinson
12:36
@Matt Todd-- Are You from the Pittsburgh area?
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:36
@Mark, that's definitely still superior. Totally agree.
Andy Robbins
12:36
Hey Matt
Felix Lu
12:37
@Morgan...that's awful. That doesn't help the "artist's proof" market at all. Which really hinges on EVERY artist who does them to stick to their word never to do more than one. Good luck with that.
Rob Rusch
12:37
@Nathan I'm ecstatic with how CGR art has gone. 4 amazing artists (Shaw, Burnett, Zaffino, Hepburn) and all traditional. It can all go digital now and I'll be happy lol
Matt Todd
12:38
Hi @Mark I am from Pittsburgh!! Hi Andy!!
Andy Robbins
12:38
Matt missed out on the Seattle experience this year
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:38
@Felix, definitely. Pricing is definitely a whole different beast to be tackled with respect to digital art...
Rob Rusch
12:38
I think what virtual cons will need to figure out is the experience piece. How do you facilitate chats with other attendees, chats with artists, and other interactive experiences. I think there's absurd potential there
Mark Tomlinson
12:40
@ Matt....Me too. I go to Pittsburgh Comics occasionally and was talking to someone there about original art. They mentioned knowing someone local that had the Gibbons Night Owl commission. I remembered it from your CAF.
Nathan Miloslawsky
12:40
@Morgan, yeah. See, that's a nightmare scenario to anyone who collect's digital pages...I've honestly never heard of digital commissions though. Hypocritically enough, I draw the line at artist's proofs. My thinking hasn't reached the comfort level of digital commissions, haha.
Andy Robbins
12:40
Rob - could it be a push for virtual/augmented reality?
Sounds stupid, but maybe with VR goggles?
Lambo
12:41
regarding the "deleting the files completely," if it's published stuff, the files will still be out there. the colorist, letterer, inker if there is one, the printer, and the publisher would all have real rez copies of the file
Felix Lu
12:42
@Lambo...you and I are both too cynical (read: realistic) to ever go for that line...:P
Matt Todd
12:42
Hey @Mark that's me! Nice to meet you!!
Rob Rusch
12:42
@Andy I don't think it's stupid at all. The company I work for has done that already for business proposals
Morgan
12:42
@Nathan the guy who told me the story told me he wouldn’t have done it if it was communicated that it was going to be digital... it sounds like the artists just assumed he knew.
