David... were you at the first ACTOR auction at MegaCon in... was it 2002?
David Mandel
10:36
@ronlim, I worry more about the bad people than I do about the good people
Ron Lim
10:36
Will do @felix
@Carl Regarding cataloging, I find CAF is great for this. Especially the backend stuff where you can add provenence, purchase date/price, etc
David Mandel
10:36
yes I was.  Bought a couple of things including a nice Frank Quitely piece I think
Were you there "Guest"??? did you get anything?
Tom Franck
10:36
Felix: Your interview with him was great.   He'd probably be a big hit doing cover recreations!  LOL
Dan T
10:36
@David Mandel - what are some under the radar movies that you have some props from?  The fact that Point Break is starting at 2AM EST inspired me to ask.
Felix Lu
10:37
@Dan T...while Dave answers...I worked on that! 20th Century Fox/Largo Entertainment 1992 baby! The prop I'd want from POINT BREAK is Keanu Reeves' wig (you didn't hear it from me!).
David Mandel
10:38
@DanT One man's under the radar is another man's radar, but I have Uther's helmet from Excalibur, I have a coin from the inquisition scene in History of the World part 1, I have some fun Bowfinger pieces, and I grabbed some stuff from Eurotrip!!!

one of my favorite stories on the secret stories was the len wein story. very touching and I could feel the importance of that cover to you beyond childhood nostalgia. only the muth painting over dkr 2 story could beat it.
Mikail

That Star Wars #1 Cover + Giant Size X-Men #1 = Chef’s Kiss
Artless Artmore (mike)

@David M.  I've really enjoyed your interviews with Felix, in part because it shows how surprisingly universal the OA collecting experience is.  Hearing that you, too, were treated badly by Danzig's assistant, mistook Danzig's price of "5" for $500 rather than $5000, and acquired a nice piece from Pete Koch early in your collecting life shows we live parallel lives (except for the relative modesty of my OA collection, of course...).
David Mandel
10:40
There are certain universal collecting experiences: bad experience with Danzig's guys, Confounding experience with the brothers, Bechara bechara-ing.  Etc
Dan T
10:40
@David Mandel - I'm a Eurotrip fan!  Love that movie!  Cooper is a legend.
Ron Lim
10:40
@DavidM Love Bowfinger. Saw it in the theater on my wedding day as my wife did bridal stuff.
David Mandel
10:40
Thanks
Carl Choi
10:40
@david thanks need to up my game on photo documentation and @Ron agree I need to leverage the CAF tools better
Dan T
10:41
@Felix - Ugh!  WIG!?!?!  Point Break ranks highly up there.  Tell me a more iconic line than "I AM AN FBI AGENT!"
Mikail
10:41
I’d want the masks
Jason
10:41
Favorites are easy. What’s the worst purchase you’ve made? Anything you’ve immediately regretted?
David Mandel
10:43
Well, I have bought 2 forgeries on ebay that I knew were bad the second they showed up and that sucked.  But I think you mean regrets.  Not sure I have bought anything that showed up and I "regretted it".  Early on I bought interior pages and then later found either better pages or the cover I really wanted, and I learned to stop doing that
Doug P
10:43
@david, you may have spoken about this in another forum, but did you ever triangulate the whereabouts of the cover to Star Wars #7?
JasonK
10:43
@dave u ever track down the star wars 7 cover?
David Mandel
10:44
Sadly no.  I have an unused penciled version that is different and then was changed.  But never that one
There early SW covers-- the first 25 have been harder to find than I would like and George does NOT have them
David Miller
10:44
@David - SNL question - which cast member did you enjoy and/or wind up writing the most sketches with?
David Mandel
10:45
@davidMiller I loved writing stuff for tim Meadows who at the time was less heralded but came into his own later and was appreciated more after I was gone.  He was so good.
Morgan
10:45
@David Mandel although Eurotrip may not have been a commercial success, the song “Scotty doesn’t know” ended up in regular rotation on the college radio station I worked at for about 6 months in 2005. So you’ve got that going for you!
Jason
10:45
Also another tip of the hat for EuroTrio. Essential guilty pleasure amongst my friends. We just quoted the robot scene on an Election Day Zoom.
James Miller
10:46
Hi everyone.  @David M.   My wife and I love Euro Trip.  She wanted to know what you kept from that movie.
David Mandel
10:46
Now I know how young you guys all are
10:47
@jamesMiller I have the Flugenkenheimler, although its missing a dildo or two.  I have the word that he opes top, I have a burnt pope hat, the clapping money doll from the flugenkenheimler scene, and I have Coopers jacket and a t-shirt or two somewhere.  And the curtain rod that becomes the pope staff
Brian Peck
10:47
@David When did you acquire the Indy jacket mentioned earlier?
David Mandel
10:48
@Brianpeck, hey Brian, I want to say about 7 years ago or so
Brandon Amato
10:48
Hi David, do you have any cool Clerks: The Animated Series art in your collection? I loved the show and hope it lives on in your collection!
David Mandel
10:49
@brandonAmato, I have some 1 of 1 laser printed cells-- the show was all digital so there were no hand painted cells.  And I have some original drawings by Chris Bailey who was the head animator as well as an OA comic art collector himself

Sorry. I didn't put my name. Yes I was at that ACTOR auction and thought I remembered you there. I didn't get anything in that main auction. But I got a pretty sweet Doug Mahnke piece in the silent auction the next day. I let it go on ComicLink a couple years ago along with half my collection to get money for an Alex Ross cover... because I'd always wanted one of his covers.
10:50
I still have that ACTOR program and my girlfriend who was with me wrote what everything sold for. It is crazy to look back at it now and see those bargains! If only I knew then what I know now and wasn't a broke college student at the time.
I remember someone doing "Scotty Doesn't Know" at karaoke one night and it brought the house down!
