Nice try though, Chris.

Any chance we see Polishuk as a guest on the podcast?  Thx
Darragh McDonald
12:56
It's happened once or twice! And he hosted the last time I took a break.
He just has several sports writing jobs and is always balancing MLBTR with other gigs. Steve, Anthony and myself are all full-time here and it's easier to arrange between the three of us.

For a manager, Alex Cora is having a great walk year.  If FSG decides he's not worth a Counsell like contract where do you think he could land?  And if he leaves is Tek the next in line?  Or someone like Ross or Schumacher?
Darragh McDonald
12:58
I've seen some reports suggest that Cora wants the big payday, but others say he wants to move from the dugout to the front office. So, I don't know really know.

Why would the Rangers not look to shop someone like Garcia or Lowe, down years aside?
Darragh McDonald
12:59
I could see them considering it.

Cincinnati wouldn't stand pat, right? Meador's comments this week have me concerned.
Darragh McDonald
1:01
I mean, they stood pat last year.

Triston McKenzie: can he turn things around?
Darragh McDonald
1:03
Man, I don't know. I'm not a doctor but he decided to not undergo Tommy John last year despite having a sprained UCL. He talked in April about how it was on his mind all the time. Must be a weird space to be in mentally.
1:04
I would guess that he could push it further from his mind as time goes on, but that's really just a guess. His control is suddenly bad so the mental factor might be the big thing.

Is Bobby Whitt JR available? Trade for him and Bo and the Dodgers are set?
Darragh McDonald
1:04
Bobby Witt is not available, no.

How much longer can the Braves tolerate this crappy lineup? Zach Short and Forrest Wall would be fortunate to start at Gwinnett and you can't ignore how awful Michael Harris and Matt Olson have been. What moves can be made?
Darragh McDonald
1:05
Good news. Eddie Rosario is on the way.
VP Kamala Harris
1:05
The performances of Snell and Montgomery have got to put some added disincentive on signing pitchers post-spring training in the future, right?  Boras can’t do this again.
Darragh McDonald
1:05
I feel like it will certainly give players pause about following this route, yes.
Senator Ed Markey

Jarren Duran was an all star starting snub.  Will he make the roster?
Darragh McDonald
1:06
There are always snubs from the fan voting because it generally rewards household names. Guys who have been good for a while, even if they're not having the best season.
1:07
Someone like Duran, who wasn't a huge star coming into the year, often have to be picked as reserves. There's a few cases like this every year.
Wayne

What do you think Dombrowski prioritizes at the trade deadline?
Darragh McDonald
1:07
An outfielder would be my guess.
Curious A's Fan
1:08
The A's DFA'd Aledmys Diaz and promptly sweep the Angels. Coincidence? Methinks not. But my question is in regards to Rooker... if the A's can't get a Top 100 type prospect in return should they trade him?
Darragh McDonald
1:09
If I were them, I would trade him for the best return they can get now. They could hold him, since he has three more years of control beyond this one. But he'll turn 30 in November and qualify for arbitration. By the time the club is good again, he'll probably be 32 and making decent money. Trade him now while his value is at its peak.

Rangers... buyers, sellers or both?
Darragh McDonald
1:12
I would guess they at least make starting pitching available. They could trade Heaney, Lorenzen and maybe even Scherzer with deGrom, Mahle and Bradford coming off the IL later.
1:13
That would allow them to recoup some talent for next year and still see if they can pull off a comeback later in the year.
buffy, the umpire slayer
1:13
After the Nats trade Winkler (seems obvious to me), come September should they bring up Dylan Crews and see what a future outfield of Wood, Young & Crews would look like on the field?
Darragh McDonald
1:13
Seems perfectly plausible, sure.
1:14
They could be big players in free agency. Corbin's contract is finally done after this year. Lots of young talent on the roster already. Might as well call up the young guys and get a look before deciding how to spend the money.
Brent Rooker
1:15
But the A’s are so bad at trading for fair value. How does that factor in?
Darragh McDonald
1:15
Ha, a fair point. But they still have to try to make trades when it makes sense.
Not trying to be morbid
1:16
If a player were to die would the contract still count against the cap?
Darragh McDonald
1:17
This is an excellent question and I think the answer is that it still would. I'm not 100% sure but I think the player's family would still be entitled to the money. Or at least some insured portion of it or something.
New screenplay idea: a GM secretly assassinating his own players for CBT savings.
