Happy holidays, Anthony. Make a guess: With all the other roster voids to fill, who leads the Dodgers in saves next season? Is he on the roster at the moment?
Anthony Franco
5:27
Thanks, you as well!
5:28
I'd say Evan Phillips is the in-house leader for it, but I could also see them adding a David Robertson type to keep Phillips in higher-leverage work and tamp down his save totals while going through arbitration
Deja who
5:28
Will Nolan be starting at 3B for the Rockies next year?  Of course, Nolan Jones, not the other guy.
Anthony Franco
5:29
Unfortunately for all the puns, I think it's McMahon's job. He's so good there defensively
Jones feels like a corner outfield/DH guy, could take some at-bats from Cron against right-handed pitching
Joey Wiemer
5:29
Am I Hunter Renfroe 2.0?
Anthony Franco
5:31
I could see that but there's a higher chance of Wiemer's swing-and-miss being untenable at the MLB level than there is with Renfroe at this point
Wilmer definitely has huge power though, and he's a deceptively good athlete. They're not all that dissimilar; Renfroe's just proven he can play in the majors already
How you doin?
5:31
The Blue Jays know who they’re getting after letting Teoscar go right?  They looks like an easy to play, light hitting club much if the time he was out hurt last year
Anthony Franco
5:32
I'm sure they have a list of outfield targets that runs 8-10 deep and expect to get one of them. I don't think they have another deal lined up already
Bernie Franks
5:32
What is ur prediction on what the Cubs might do? Last year they couldn’t hit !
Anthony Franco
5:33
Seems like they're going to be aggressive. I think it's likelier than not they come away with one of the top free agent shortstops. They'll add a good starting pitcher but not an elite one -- maybe Senga but I'd guess it's someone from the Syndergaard, Walker, Taillon, Heaney tier
5:34
Also expect they'll grab a stopgap option in center field. Hoyer's already called that a goal. Doubt they're going for Nimmo with Pete Crow-Armstrong not too far away, but Bellinger/Kiermaier/Michael A. Taylor trade all make some sense

Hi Anthony. Happy Thanksgiving! While the Dodgers may be connected to some major free agents such as Judge, Verlander and the like, I would be more comfortable with a combination of integrating some of the young players like Outman and Vargas and Busch. We don’t “need” Judge or Verlander with their huge salaries. We do need more starting pitching, which the Marlins have in abundance. Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
5:36
Yeah I think you can make a real argument for sitting out the top of free agency and pursuing starting pitching via trade. Middle infield would be pretty shaky that way though. You're pushing Lux back to shortstop and don't really have a clear fit at second base. I like Michael Busch a lot but don't think he's an MLB second baseman, feels like a left fielder to me

5:36
What do you think the Giants would have to give up to get Rosario from Cleveland?
Anthony Franco
5:39
Probably a guy in the 5-10 range in the farm system, which isn't especially good. Casey Schmitt, Aeverson Artega types feel about right
Joshua
5:39
What would the DBacks have to attach to MadBum in order for someone to take him and his entire salary off their hands? Thanks.
Anthony Franco
5:40
If Bumgarner were a free agent, he's probably getting like 1/5. He's actually due 2/37, so it's like $32MM in negative trade value
5:41
Carroll and Varsho have more value than that. Jake McCarthy probably has a bit less. I think someone like Alek Thomas or Josh Rojas is the closest proxy to what it would take
5:42
I don't expect Arizona would actually give one of those guys away to shed the Bumgarner money, but that's about where I'd land for the theoretical purpose of this question
Back Bay
5:42
Any hope for Alex Kirilloff? Will the Twins trade him? Were his injuries freak (like Haniger's), or are they chronic (like Kyle Lewis)?
Anthony Franco
5:43
I'm not a medical professional so I don't know how to answer the second question, but it does seem worrisome he's now twice had surgery on the same wrist in two years
5:44
I'm not at the point of abandoning hope but his value's dropping and I think there's a chance the Twins deal either him or Larnach for bullpen help or as part of a package for a catching/rotation upgrade

5:44
Say the Cubs don’t get a high-profile CF and the Mariners don’t get a high-profile 2B. What do you think of a Nick Madrigal for Taylor Trammell trade?
Anthony Franco
5:45
It's a interesting challenge trade. I'd probably prefer Madrigal but if the Cubs sign a shortstop and kick Hoerner over to second base, it seems viable
5:46
A lot of it revolves around whether the Cubs think Trammell can actually play center field. Scotuing reports have raised questions about his arm strength maybe pushing him to left, and he spent more time in the corners (albeit RF) than in center in Triple-A this year

5:46
Eugenio Suarez has always hit for power, but his "comeback" this year was to a .236 BA. Will he ever see the .230s again, or is he simply a third-base version of Mike Zunino?
Anthony Franco
5:47
I don't think he's ever hitting above .240 again. Something in the .230 range is a bit more doable but probably also a stretch, I agree
5:48
He doesn't strike out at Zunino levels, but he strikes out a lot. His bigger issue is his batting average on balls in play tanked his final couple seasons in Cincinnati
Which makes sense. He hits a ton of fly balls and stopped hitting the ball as hard as he used to. Fly balls are nice for power, but that's only true if you're hitting them with any sort of authority
5:49
Considering his batted ball metrics didn't bounce back much in Seattle, I was kind of baffled how he pulled out the caliber of season he did with the M's, but I don't buy that he's reestablished himself as a middle-of-the-order threat

5:49
If I'm a GM and I plan to make a trade for a player but plan on trading that player to a 3rd team, do I tell the first GM what I'm doing when we speak? Do they show that professional courtesy?
Anthony Franco
5:50
If the trades are made in conjunction with one another, then yeah, I imagine you give the other team a heads-up
5:51
Did the Twins tell the Rangers they could flip Kiner-Falefa to the Yankees the next day? I don't know, but I doubt it, since those two moves were distinct big trades

5:51
Tigers are in evaluation mode with new mgmt but do you see them trying to supplement the rotation with a Bassitt or trade for Marco (Schoop going to seattle)?
Anthony Franco
5:52
Mariners aren't going to want Schoop for Marco, but I agree with your general premise the Tigers are in position to identify some starting pitching targets they like. They have the need for innings and a lot of payroll space
5:53
Bassitt's going to be 34 next year, so I like him more on a clearer-cut contender. But I think they're a good fit for a Taillon or Manaea type
Wayne
5:53
Are the Mariners really in on any of the 4 top SS's?  I can't really see them going down that road financially, though they have a lot of payroll room compared to historic highs.  If not, where do they go FA-wise?  Nimmo maybe?
