Rank the second tier free agent lefty starters: Manaea, Heaney, Tyler Anderson, Quintana, Smyly.  Anyone I'm missing (not counting Rodon, Kershaw)? Who would be the trade targets in this category?
Anthony Franco
4:38
Interestingly specific. I'd go Heaney, Manaea, Anderson, Quintana, Martín Pérez (who you didn't mention), Smyly. Think Matt Strahm's an interesting Wild Card if he gets a chance to start
4:39
Having a hard time thinking of specifically left-handed starters who might be trade candidates. I'm sure the Jays would happily dump Yusei Kikuchi, Rays would do the same with Ryan Yarbrough

Is 2 year $100M outside of Verlander's market? How does DeGrom compare?
Anthony Franco
4:40
I don't think he gets to $100MM unless someone goes three years. He's three years older than Scherzer was last offseason and didn't have quite the same strikeout stuff Max did
JV's more in the $40MM annual range for me, although I believe I'm lower on him than Steve and Tim are
4:41
deGrom's probably gets a bigger annual salary over three years, wouldn't be stunned if someone went four. Helps to be six years younger

Will Asa Lacy every amount to anything or was that a wasted pick by the Royals
Anthony Franco
4:42
Not optimistic. Hated the pick at the time
4:43
His four starts during the college season that eventually got canceled were the only time he threw strikes at A&M. Not super surprising to me that he's struggling badly with his control in pro ball

Braves send Acuna, Grissom. and two solid prospects to Angels for Trout (to play LF next to Harris) and one year of Ohtani (hoping to extend Shohei). Minasian and Alex work together to help jumpstar Angels and keep Braves on track to contend for years.
Anthony Franco
4:44
I respect the creativity but there's zero chance this gets even discussed
Arthur Dent
4:44
Any word on Winker and the Mariners?  The rumor mill is churning.
Anthony Franco
4:44
I've seen nothing substantive to suggest he'll get traded this offseaso
4:45
I'm sure they'd listen but he's not a huge bargain at $8.25MM coming off the year he just had. I doubt anyone makes Seattle a strong enough offer to move them

Is my priority Trea Turner or Aaron judge and what about Gavin lux
Anthony Franco
4:46
I don't know that either Judge or Turner is going to be the priority for the Dodgers. Much as they spend, they don't tend to love going super long-term
4:47
Mookie and Freddie are the only guys on the books beyond 2025. I think their ideal targets are shorter term with huge annual salaries
Suggestion
4:48
I think a Calendar feature on MLBTR would be a nice addition. It could including key baseball dates: opening of FA, tender/non-tender deadline, Rule 5 draft, Winter meeting dates, intl signing period, start of Spring Training, etc. Plus MLBTR scheduled chats, player chats, Top 50 release date, Top 50 contest deadlines, etc.
Anthony Franco
4:49
I don't know if we'll do a full-time link in the header or anything, but we do an annual Offseason Calendar post once the World Series ends
Here was last year's for example
4:50
Really can't do it earlier than that for a lot of stuff, since free agency doesn't have an official start date. It just starts five days after the end of the World Series, which could've been this past Tuesday and could be Sunday

Question about two minor leaguers: Will Nick Yorke (Bos) recover from his disastrous year? Is there any there there to Greg Jones (TB)?
Anthony Franco
4:51
I feel the same way about them as I did when you asked this last week haha
Rangers Hopeful
4:51
What’s with the rumors of Dayton  Mclaine , spelling could be off.
Anthony Franco
4:52
It's Dayton Moore, who ran the Royals baseball operations department forever but was dismissed this summer
4:53
Chris Young is new in the job of running a front office. Moore's a respected executive who knows Young personally from Young's playing days in K.C. Bringing him in as some kind of assistant or advisor makes a ton of sense
4:54
Nothing's final yet, haven't even seen it confirmed they're in discussions. But there have been a bunch of loose links between Moore and some kind of position with the Rangers. He's not going to replace Young or anything like that

Putting reality aside for a moment and you must make a choice: if you were the Dodger decision maker, would you keep Gallo, Bellinger or Thompson? All three are pretty good to excellent defensive players. You can keep two. In the same vein: JTurner, Muncy or install Vargas at 3rd and let him grow into the position? You keep one.
Anthony Franco
4:55
I'm assuming the money is as it'd be in real life? I'd keep Thompson (and Gallo if I had to keep two) in the outfield
If I only get to keep one of the infielders on the MLB roster, I guess I'd buy out Turner. Play Muncy at third and keep Vargas in the minors and as a bench bat for now
DBacks Need Help
4:56
What do you think of the following somewhat low-cost additions for the Dbacks?  Sign Tucker Barnhart to complement Carson Kelly, sign either old friend Brandon Drury or Brian Anderson (if he is non-tendered by the Fish) to get some right-handed hitting help at third base and corner outfield, and use the rest of available resources to upgrade the bullpen and bring in a low-cost veteran innings-eater?  I get the impression the DBacks are going to stick with Ahmed and Perdomo at shortstop for another season.
Anthony Franco
4:57
I wouldn't bother with Barnhart really. Signing Drury feels like buying high but he does fit the roster. That's also true of Anderson, who I like as a fit there quite a bit
Agree that the bullpen and an innings-eater are the targets on the pitching staff. I think they'll explore trades for shortstops but would stick with Ahmed/Perdomo if they come up empty
Rangers Hopeful
4:57
How many large contracts can we afford this winter, Who would help this team the most ?
Anthony Franco
4:58
Seems like at least one more huge deal plus a mid-tier pickup in the Jon Gray mold are viable
They're still nowhere near the CBT so it just comes down to where Ray Davis is comfortable going. Doesn't sound as if he's anywhere close to his limit yet

Who is the Japanese pitiwho is being posted. How good is he and could the Angels sign him
Anthony Franco

Kodai Senga? We haven't gotten super clear scouting reports on him but his NPB numbers are more interesting than Yusei Kikuchi's were when he came over
