Andres Gimenez is the Blue Jays opening day SS in 2026, convince me I'm wrong and this does not write Bo Bichette's ticket out of town during or after the 2025 season
Anthony Franco
4:01
Sorry but I believe you are correct
4:02
I don't think they're driving Bo away so much as they've assumed he'll walk for months now and acquired Giménez as insurance for Bichette's inevitable departure
4:03
We went into this on the pod this morning, but that trade doesn't make much sense to me unless the Jays think Giménez can play a plus shortstop in '26 and beyond. Steve liked it more from their perspective

trader Jerry and preller have both been pretty quiet so far, what do you guys expect from this offseason

What do you think the final Luis Castillo trade ends up being? with the red sox? cubs? Orioles and what we getting? Thank you!
Anthony Franco
4:05
Enough chatter there that I expect Dipoto to move Castillo and make at least one FA pickup in the corner infield. Easiest to draw the Sox ties since they're the team that's been connected most publicly, but I like Baltimore as a better fit
4:07
O's could take on the contract and put Mountcastle or O'Hearn in the return along with a couple prospects outside of the Mayo/Basallo/Kjerstad group

Phillies have been fairly quiet.   What is one move you feel they could still make that will be an improvement on today's roster?
Anthony Franco
4:08
Bringing Hoffman back makes sense. Don't think they'll go huge in free agency beyond that but they need some kind of role playing outfielder to take ABs from Marsh against lefties
Grichuk or Canha could work
baseball gods laugh and laugh
4:09
Would the Pirates be interested in getting Starling Marte back if Mets pay most of his salary?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Yeah I think this actually makes sense beyond appealing to nostalgia
So Cal Craig
4:09
Best career, Stone or Sheehan  ??
Anthony Franco
4:10
Man, I like Stone more but shoulder surgeries are so tough. I'll stick with him but I don't feel great about it. "Easier" to come back from TJ
Bill
4:11
Sean Murphy???
Anthony Franco
4:11
Still an Atlanta Brave! Sorry Bill

Do you think the Astros would trade Chas Mccormick to the Reds for Jeimer Candelario?  They are both coming off of down years but I also think they are good bounce-back candidates.  Would the Reds have to add someone else, too?  Maybe Rece Hinds or Will Benson?
Anthony Franco
4:12
Nah, I think Candy's contract is pretty far underwater after that season. If the Astros were out on McCormick, they could've non-tendered him
4:13
Especially after the Tucker move, they've gotta hold Chas and hope he gets back to the player he was before this year. He's their best outfielder at the moment

4:14
Will the Diamondbacks make an effort to re-sign Walker? Do they have any in-house options that could equal his value on the field?
Anthony Franco
4:15
Guessing he'll walk. I'm sure they'd love to have him back but I think he'll price himself out
4:16
Wouldn't say they have anyone who could match Walker. Few teams do, he's really good. Pavin Smith hit the crap out of the ball in a small sample this year, though. I don't think he'll hit .270/.348/.547 over a full season or anything, but he did enough that I'd be fine letting him get a shot at first base to start the season

4:17
If you were Chris Young does trading with SD for 2 of Suarez, Matsui and Adam or trading with AZ for Monty plus Puk or Mantiply make the most sense in terms of acquisition cost and ceiling?
Anthony Franco
4:17
Yeah, I'd definitely prefer the Padres route of the two you mentioned but I doubt San Diego moves either Suarez or Adam, especially not both
4:18
Matsui doesn't do much for me
Positively Half St.
4:18
Speaking of nostalgia, does it make more sense for Max Scherzer to go to DC or Detroit? Please answer for both Max and the teams.
Anthony Franco
4:19
Nationals need him more but I'd rather go to Detroit if I were Scherzer, largely because I think they're likelier to make the playoffs next season
FWIW, the Tigers basically said they're out of the rotation market aside from the pitch they'll make to Sasaki after signing Cobb
Tigers
4:19
there gonna do more than sign an also-ran pitcher right?
Anthony Franco
4:20
Speaking of which...
Definitely not done. Still need the RH bat. Should add another reliever if they're out of the rotation market because they're going to be leaning heavily on the 'pen again with that rotation
4:21
Giving Cobb $15MM was weird. I assumed he'd get like 7.5 coming off all the injuries. I figured Heyman must've had a typo in there when he first reported that
Arizona
4:22
With SF and SD willing to outspend Kendrick, is it worth holding the likes of Gallen and Kelly? The next reboot could be expedited by cashing in on the insanely expensive market this winter, no?
Anthony Franco
4:22
They'd still have a lot of value at the deadline. No harm in listening now but I like the roster enough that I wouldn't be motivated to move either until/unless they fall out of the race in the first half
Fa bust
4:23
Which team regrets FA signing,as Astros did with Abreu?
Anthony Franco
4:24
Like which of the recent deals do I expect to age badly? Not many where I'd say I really liked the price point for the teams, outside of maybe Eovaldi. I didn't like the Severino one at all
4:25
I knew I'd be lower on him than the market even when we thought he'd land in the low-50s. Getting to 67 with an opt-out after declining a QO that required the A's to surrender a top 50 pick would've been an easy no for me
4:26
I understand they need to spend and they're probably running into roadblocks on which free agents are interested in joining them right now, so I don't envy David Forst's predicament, but I think that signing is basically all downside for the team
Billie
4:26
Do you think Mayer should've been a must get for the White Sox?
