Makes me very unhappy that you wasted time responding to the troll yesterday on the site chat at the end.  To say it was a fair question does nothing but encourage jerks like that.  You should have ignored it, or if you had to respond, versus taking time to answer two other legitimate questions, you should have told him/her he wasn't being forced to participate or read the chat or even listen to your opinion.  Just really discouraging to others who actually wanted to hear your opinion on baseball, not have to end a good chat reading his/her obnoxious question.

I get where you're coming from but we get that kind of sentiment all the time (in chats, emails, surveys we run about trying to broaden our Front Office membership appeal). Some of it is mean-spirited trolling, and maybe the one last night was as well, but a lot of times we get people earnestly questioning what kind of value we're adding when we're analyzing all stuff that's already public information
3:54
I felt it was worthwhile to take a couple minutes and try to explain why we disagree with that kind of characterization

Do you think the Mariners have a realistic shot at Montas, or will the A's likely not trade within the division?
Anthony Franco
3:55
Sure I don't think the A's would mind. He's only controllable through the end of next year anyways, and the A's aren't likely to compete by then
Rusty Shackleford
3:55
Yankee fan who would love Soto. However, it would make way more sense to package those same prospects and get more talent. Would the (separate) packages for Castillo and Reynolds equal Soto?
Anthony Franco
3:56
Nah I think the talent for Castillo + Reynolds costs more than just Soto

3:56
I just picked up Finnegan am I screw not that he is on the trading block? I assume he won’t go anywhere as a closer.
Anthony Franco
3:56
Probably haha. I think he'll get dealt and work in the 6th-7th inning on a decent team
Lindor
3:57
Mets fans won’t admit it but at the contract he got, he’s overpaid. Shouldn’t the Mets have waited on him for a year and then signed whoever they wanted In free agency? Imagine if they had correa right now
Anthony Franco
3:58
He's making more than he would've gotten as a free agent coming off last season but I get why they wanted to anchor around somebody early and it's not like Lindor's been bad
4:00
Story got 7/140 with an opt out last winter. That'd have probably been the floor for Lindor. Obviously there's a big gap between that and 10/341 but if they wanted him around without an opt out I think they'd have had to go well over $200MM even after last season's meh performance
CJ Cron
4:00
If the Rox traded me what would they get back
Anthony Franco
4:00
A couple solid mid-tier types, no Top 100 guys. Don't expect they'll do it anyways
Thor
4:01
What does the Noah syndergaard return look like?
Anthony Franco
4:02
He's fine, probably the best rental arm available, but he's also expensive and not striking anybody out. There's value there but it's mostly cost savings and maybe a 40 FV type prospect or two
Feels like they could get a near-ready 5th/6th starter type who could plug into the 2023 rotation
Orioles
4:03
Would the Os get much back for Mancini?  Seems like they should keep him no matter what and give the fans something worth cheering for
Anthony Franco
4:04
Yeah it wouldn't be a whole lot. It's not the front office's job to be super sentimental so I wouldn't take him off the table entirely, but if they're getting offered another team's #18 prospect and they're still within 3-4 games of the Wild Card, I think they should just hold him
Chief
4:05
What can the Royals realistically expect to get for Benintendi? Merrifield? Dozier? Taylor?
Anthony Franco
4:06
Solid but not overwhelming value in all their cases. They're all interesting trade pieces but I don't think anyone would give up a top five guy in an average system for any of them
Aaron judge
4:06
Over under Anthony rendons 7/245. He’s stayed healthy but cooled off a lot as of late, probably not the mvp anymore
Anthony Franco
4:06
Have to take the over at this point, pretty substantially really
4:07
Credit to him. I was a little surprised he balked at $213.5MM, thought he'd end up coming in under that when it was all said and done. But he's gone out and shattered expectations
EddieB
4:08
Seems like Kelenic has started to use all five tools in Tacoma...and is on a tear.  He coming up to play this second half?
Anthony Franco
4:09
Don't think there's room for him imminently. Lewis just came back to join Winker and Rodríguez, Haniger should be activated in the next week or two
If somebody gets hurt, maybe it's a different story. But I don't think they'll call him up to play half the games as a fourth outfielder

What lefty bullpen arms other than Chafin are expected to be available at the deadline? That seems to be one spot in the bullpen where the Mariners are pretty thin and could look to upgrade.
Anthony Franco
4:10
Joe Mantiply, Matt Moore, Gregory Soto perhaps
4:11
Steven Okert and Richard Bleier too
Keith
4:11
True or False: If Stephen Piscotty hits like Matt Carpenter for two months, the A's would decline his option.
Anthony Franco
4:12
Man this would be so cool. I think it's false
Chris
4:12
Do you think deGrom resigns with the Mets this offseason?  Do the Mets truly want him for what his price tag could command, considering how little he has pitched?  Thank you.
Anthony Franco
4:13
Mets would be my plurality favorite but I'd take the field over any given team
Madag
4:14
Any thoughts on what the Astros should do with Forrest Whitley?
Anthony Franco
4:15
Just keep him in Triple-A for now, although I'd certainly be willing to trade him if anyone's interested. Just don't think it's happening for him, largely because of the injuries. Probably ends up in the bullpen eventually
Michael
4:15
You mentioned Mariners as a potential landing spot for Soto....does Julio Rod become the key piece going back?
Anthony Franco
4:15
Nah they wouldn't give up Julio. It'd be more like Noelvi Marte and Matt Brash plus
Joe J.
4:16
Yankees trade for Happ, Peralta, etc. or roll with Locastro? Assuming they kick Gallo to the curb.
Anthony Franco
4:16
Think they're a better fit for one of the role player types like Peralta or Gamel than topping the market for a guy like Happ. The lineup's already great, I don't they'll be as motivated as some others
