Signing Rendon was bold. Looks bad in retrospect, but it definitely wasn't playing things safe
4:44
They've gotten almost nothing out of the farm system to backfill around the roster for a while now and it keeps coming back to bite them. I don't know what the fix is other than to keep taking shots at it, but I understand why you (and most Angels fans, I'm sure) are so frustrated

What outfielder do you think the Yankees trade for?

With Montas heading for an ICU soon... will the A's consider putting Blackburn and/or Irvin into a pitching starved market?
Anthony Franco
4:46
I could see them fielding offers on Blackburn but ultimately expect both guys to stay

Anthony,  what is the deal with Luis Patino in TB?  5 great rehab games, but not being called up?
Anthony Franco
4:47
Probably just holding out until the last possible second before they have to make a 40-man move
4:48
The rehab window will be up eventually and then they'll have to activate him, but he'll need a spot on the 40 to come off the 60-day IL. Zunino's the only guy they could transfer to the 60 but they've been in kind of a holding pattern waiting to see if he'll need thoracic outlet surgery
4:49
So they might just have to DFA somebody once Patino comes back and they're not going to do that until they absolutely have to

Hey Anthony. Any former major league talent having a great year in Japan or the Korean League so far, who could find a major league deal this coming offseason?
Anthony Franco
4:50
I haven't scoured the leagues extensively or anything, but I stumbled upon Wilmer Font's BRef page today because of the Lagares signing, and it's pretty crazy
2.02 ERA with a 110:15 strikeout-to-walk through 116 innings
4:51
He missed bats in the minors, still only 30. I bet he'll get a major league deal next winter

Hey Anthony, Kyle Harrison, the Giants top pitching prospect and I think in the top 30 overall was moved to AA a few weeks ago and has been pitching well.  Does he look like a 2023 starter at the MLB level?
Anthony Franco
4:52
I'd probably be a bit worried about the control if you're counting on him as a starter out of the gate next season
But I can see a world where he gets his feet wet as a swing type midseason and just has a rotation spot by '24

Are we going to call up anyone from the farm
Anthony Franco
4:54
Guessing we'll see Miguel Vargas before too long. Taylor's injury opens up some time in left field and they can rotate him through third base and DH to spell Justin Turner at times
Obviously Pepiot's been on and off the roster a few times already too. Believe he's down to one option remaining, so he'll probably get a longer bullpen look whenever he's up next
Brewers
4:55
What would it take for the Brewers to get Bryan Reynolds from the Pirates? They made a substantial offer last year for him at the trade deadline so the interest may still be there.
Anthony Franco
4:56
Probably have to put both Chourio and Frelick in there to get things rolling. I don't see Milwaukee going that far, particularly in-division
Duffy Scliff
4:56
Red Sox get Jesus Aguilar and Steven Okert, Marlins get minor leaguers Jay Groome and Pedro Castellanos. Who says no?
Anthony Franco
4:57
Doubt it moves the needle for Miami. Maybe if they drop 5-6 back by the deadline

Just saw that Nolan Jones got called up by Cleveland.  How much of a boost will he provide to their offense?
Anthony Franco
4:58
Probably provides them something on the order of the 110 wRC+ they lost when Oscar González got hurt
4:59
Dramatically different players, of course, but I'm guessing they'll be similarly valuable overall despite getting to the production in almost the exact opposite way

Give me someone the Red Sox can trade for that can hit and play some defense at first base, that can just be stopgap until Casas is ready…

Somebody just dropped me in an AL only baseball league.   Am I worth picking up or will Baltimore look elsewhere affecting my at bats at shortstop?
Anthony Franco
5:00
He'll steal bases, I guess. Nothing else, but I doubt they're going to replace him in the final couple months
5:01
He'll be DFA by the offseason probably, but no huge hurry to get rid of him right now

Could you see the Padres sending Blake Snell to the Yankees to free up money?
Anthony Franco
5:01
I don't know there'll be enough motivation on the Yankees part to take that kind of chance given how well their starting five has pitched
5:02
I think they'll add to the rotation but more inexpensive depth arm than a costly, volatile guy like Snell

Hi Anthony. Thanks for doing this. Dodger relievers appear to be dropping like flies. Treinen, Hudson, Kahnle, and, now, Graterol may be iffy. Kimbrel has been off and on. The relievers have done an outstanding job but seem to be getting worn out. The other day you published a report on some under the radar guys that might help clubs. Who do you think the Dodgers should pursue. Sorry for the length of the post.

Mentioned Jiménez and Trivino as more boring but stable options earlier, but I'd really love to see a contender trade for Félix Bautista

In the KD trade gossip, a commentator said that Toronto isn't America for African American athletes.... a great city but maybe TOO diverse to provide a vibe they would like. Do you think this also applies to Dominican players or Cuban players? Does Toronto have issues getting FAs because of culture?
