If the Steelers are not in a reasonable super bowl window, do they extend Watt for 30 mil a year? That is like paying Bednar for the Pirates top of the line closer money when they won't sniff the playoffs. Do they try to get a couple of first round picks for him or hold on and pray they are in contention for the next 3-4 years?
Gerry Dulac
12:15
I would not compare the situation of a one-time All-Star to a multiple All-Pro selection.

How confident are you that the offensive line will gel this year with Jones flipping to left tackle or could any of the possible QB signings be running for their lives all year?
Gerry Dulac
12:16
I hink they have a lot of good young OL in place. Two No. 1s and a No. 2 for starters

Will the Steelers start to act with a sense of urgency with Fields now that it's been reported that he is interested in the Jets and vice versa? Why risk playing a game with him?  Or do you think Fields will use the Jets as a type of leverage to get more money or years from the Steelers?  Of all the possible QBs out there, I'd probably see what it would take to get Stafford. Sign him to a two year deal and draft a QB either this year or next to sit behind him.  I know fans want to tank this year or next so we can "improve" our draft status but the Steelers don't operate that way.  I think they want to win now with Heyward and Watt on the back 9 of their careers. Having said that, would Smith/Tomlin be willing to let someone like Stafford audible when it's necessary?
Gerry Dulac
12:17
Fields, or any UFA for that matter, uses free agency as leverage, whether intentional or not. The Steelers and other NFL teams use it as leverage as well.

12:17
Hey Gerry.  How much money is reasonable for the Steelers to pay Fields if they want him to start next season?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
12:17
$15 million average for two years
Danny
12:17
Who do think will be the starting QB this year? Wilson, Fields or other?

Do you appreciate being aggregated from these chats?

Let them have at it

I think the Steelers should draft DL's with the first 2 picks in the draft unless they pick up a DL in free agency like Hargrave. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
12:18
I say you're on to something. It will depend what happens in FA

12:18
Gerry, if the Steelers can take either Kupp or Samuel, which would you prefer or think would fit better in their current system?
Gerry Dulac
12:19
Kupp is a better fit with Pickens. Samuel is a better playmaker

Tomlin has great relationships with players BUT can he let the DC and OC do their thing?  Mostly on offense!  Being so risk adverse and worried about T/Os might work against bad teams but against the top half of team they look horrible!
Gerry Dulac
12:19
He doesn't

Any truth to the strategery  that a team will draft a certain player just to keep them from another team, in favor of drafting a player that would help their team?
Gerry Dulac
12:19
None. And, if they do, that GM has a short shelf life

If I recall, many reporters including the beats, were predicting a losing record or at least us missing the playoffs before the season.  Yet neither of those things happened.  Now, many reporters, including the beats, are predicting a losing record or at least us missing the playoffs for the upcoming season.  Yeah, I know we ended on a really bad note, but why all the doom and gloom?  I think we're better today than we were a year ago.  Is it simply recency bias?
Gerry Dulac
12:20
I predicted 11-6 before the season and it looked as though I was going to hit that with ease....until those final 4 games

Hi Gerry, who would you say is the best golfer on the Steelers?  Thank you kindly.

Need to stop with the Russ, Darnold, Rogers, and Carr talk.  A bad O line, WRs that are last in the NFL in separation and a HC that runs the ball at the 3rd highest clip with the 29th best outcome.  You go with Fields but if he goes to the Jets, Raiders, Giants, or even Browns I hope they learned not to panic and draft high for a QB in a draft that is weak at the position.  I'm not feeling great about the directon of this team.

I think you need to relax aptly-named

I'm not in the "fire everyone" crowd but are you a little dissapointed that there haven't and probably won't be any changes in staff and policy going into next year?
Gerry Dulac
12:22
Disappointed not a word I use. But a little surprised.

Gerry, Mark Robinson loves to blow people up. He was a RB his entire life until his senior year of college when he moved to LB. Would it make sense to add blocking FB to his current ST and backup LB duties?
Gerry Dulac
12:23
Not a bad suggestion at all

Given injuries and limited playing time,  what is your evaluation and prognosis on the future of Cory Trice's future as cornerback with the Pittsburgh Steelers? Thanks!!!
Gerry Dulac
12:23
I will tell you they like Cory Trice

Watched the Saturday Night Live 50th anniversary special the other night. Lots of athletes to host that show, including T.J.'s big brother -- but no Steelers or Pittsburgh athletes over the last 50 years. Which Steelers (or I guess any other local athlete that you've covered) would have been the best hosts -- naturally funny, a bit of a ham in front of an audience, quick and engaging on camera? I'm thinking Ryan Clark and Terry Bradshaw ... you?
Gerry Dulac
12:23
Bradshaw the most obvious

Hey Gerry.  We've heard of players being late for meetings.  We've seen players quit on the field.  Now we hear they are on social media during halftime.  There are no punishments or consequences.  The culture is a complete disaster.  You can have the best players in the world but can't succeed with that culture?  Why does Tomlin give free reign with no rules or accountability?  How can the team ever achieve greatness as long as he is in charge and let's these antics go on?
Gerry Dulac
12:25
It's not just with the Steelers. That's today's athlete. Rampant through the NFL. Coaches are almost powerless. But it goes back to having he right types of players on your team, the type that are unselfish and play for each other and not themselves.

Any idea when Weidl holds his annual presser? Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
12:25
He doesn't. He speaks at training camp and that's it

Appreciate the chats Gerry! Does the NFL permit coaches to have ownership in their team? Does Coach T? Thanks!
