Sure, that would be fair for the Steelers. But I think what would be more likely is the Steelers giving up a future No. 2 choice and also swapping first-round picks.

Gerry, are you a range rat, or do you head to the first tee after a few putts and the comfort of a breakfast ball in your pocket?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
"I'll hit em out there."

Do you see a scenario where the Steelers trade down from #20? Maybe get an extra 2nd or 3rd rounder to stock up on WRs or an OC, or CB.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Possibly. But if they do it will be with the intention of moving up in the second round.

Some friends assume Ben will be the next Steelers HOFer. Does Poincey have a shot?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
He does, but not before Ben gets in.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the chats.  Regarding the Steeler need for a C.  They passed on Linderbaum (Balt #25) and Humphries (KC #63) in recent years.  Both good fits.  Do you think the Steelers rank the 3 top names this year Barton, JPJ, and Frazier as highly as those other 2?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I don't think they rank at least two of those guys ahead of Linderbaum.

Gerry,  is there a limit to how many teams can invite a particular draftee for a visit? It seems like some of these guys can be asked to go spend a day  with 25 to 32 different clubs over a 2 month period.  It seems like cruel and unusual punishment.  Is a draft eligible player allowed to decline a visit?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Not that I'm aware of. They tend to be on a constant recruiting trip. And I don't know why someone would decline a visit because it would not look good for them if they did

I know Tomlin values position flexibility to a degree but in the first round they HAVE to know what position they plan for their player to play, right?  (I'm referring mostly to the possible selection of Fuaga, Fautanu, Barton, and maybe DeJean.)
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I don't think you should worry about Dejean in the first round. But if they draft a tackle, it's going to be a right tackle so they can move Jones to left tackle. And Barton is being considered as a center, not a tackle or guard.

Were you at least a little curious to see Kenny run Arthur Smith's offense?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Not at all.

Gerry, ever single handedly remove a temporary obstruction and lug it around like you were heading to a crucifixion?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
Great scene!!
Mack
10:17
Good morning Gerry - Where would Broderick Jones rank in this class of OTs?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Probably somewhere right where he was picked last year

One former Steelers' player who should be in the Pro Football HOF ASAP?

LC Greenwood

All the draft talk has focused on the OL, especially center since they don’t have a starter there. You have advocated to address the DL and I agree.  Are there any DL that could likely be available at 20 that they should take but also wouldn’t be a reach to take in lieu of another position of need?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
I think they will look at a DL in the third round, maybe the second, a guy like Mizzou's Darius Robinson, whom they really like.

Hi Gerry - do you think the Steelers brass place any bit of importance on the draft choices that grew up rooting for the Steelers ?  Maybe extra incentive for the player to do whatever it takes to succeed or push themselves even harder ?  Or am I smokin my socks ?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
None. And use your socks for other purposes, like, say, wearing

Do you have a favorite draft-eligible player among the 30 or so visits hosted by the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
He was there yesterday
Jake
10:20
So what is the status of Myles Jack? Chances are at some point we will need depth next year.
Gerry Dulac
10:21
That won't be determined until August at the earliest

10:21
we all assume the role of Khan, Tomlin and the coordinators in putting together the board but do you have any insight into how much influence the regional scouts have?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Very little, in terms of making selections. The scouts are involved with giving their reports/assessments, and asst GM Andy Weidl puts together the draft board. Basically, the coordinators are like the scouts -- they give their assessments but are not involved in the picks. They only offer their opinion if asked.

Do you see the Steelers releasing Cole Holcomb after June 1 to create cap room for a big trade?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I don't think Holcomb's status will have anything to do with a big trade. The only "big trade" left would be for a WR.

PG going to have a draft night chat?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
Yes, I believe, though it won't be me Ed

Way back in my early young days as a reporter
