I'm a bit surprised they haven't found one before the draft, which increases the likelihood they will find one high in the draft. But they will still add one in free agency too
Joe

After picking up Boykin I don’t feel it will affect them drafting a receiver in the first or second, but do you feel they may still add another after the draft in FA?
Gerry Dulac
2:27
It has no impact at all. They will still draft a WR with the first or second pick

Maybe Hines Ward should coach the receiver group in the future? Many seem to become prima Donna’s here!! What’s up?
Gerry Dulac
2:28
He's a head coach in the XFL. And he made his pitch to be the receivers coach a couple years ago and wasn't selected. Don't think he would want to come back right now

Asst QB Coach? Aye or Nay. A "revised" Rooney Rule. Do you know if other teams are starting to hire them through your pipeline, Gerry?
Gerry Dulac
2:29
Doesn't matter why he was hired. What's the harm?

Hi Gerry, Love your chats and insight.  There seems to be a lot of chatter of the Steelers trading up to grab Willis.. Do you think he is the real deal? Or do you think they go DL/CB/WR at 20?  What are your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
2:30
No I don't, and any team that would trade up to draft one of these guys are nuts. Or desperate.

Other than DJ & Claypool, do any of the WR on the roster have a true chance of playing meaningful minutes?
Gerry Dulac
2:30
Not a true chance. Cody White has a chance to be a contributor

Hi Gerry, Since this is Kevin Colbert's last draft I was wondering if he will try to make any kind of splash pick on his way out? Trading up to grab Willis? Or do you think he'll use the pick on defense? It seems most number one's during Kevin Colbert's reign was on defense. Either way, it'll be sad to see one of the best GM's step down.
Gerry Dulac
2:31
None. Best they will do is probably bring a cake into the war room on Day 3. But, whatever they do, he is deserving of it

The Steelers didn’t pay what was required to keep JuJu and probably shouldn’t pay what will be required to keep Johnson. Do you think the WR room will just continue to churn unless they stumble into another great one like Brown (I hate that I had to mention his name)?
Gerry Dulac
2:34
I think there is a very good chance of that being the case. I mean, do you really think they want to pay DJ what he thinks he's worth (notice I said 'what he thinks')? Don't get me wrong, I like DJ, I think he's a very nice receiver, but he's not a difference-maker or game-breaker

  • Possible round 1 and round 2 for Steelers….Dotson and Brisker from PSU?
Gerry Dulac
2:34
Anything possible.

I hope the Steelers address Dline in the draft very high. But other than Davis, who may be gone by the time they pick in the first, who do you think they would target in the first?
Gerry Dulac
2:35
That's the problem with DTs -- there aren't many quality ones in the draft, so if you want one you better got get him early. His teammate Wyatt not a bad pick. In fact, he might be picked before Davis

I feel sorry for the chat writers who have to answer the same questions, over and over. Things were so much better when the team did the drafting and people weren't guessing and pushing for their own pick. i'm sure a few people who have been screaming when the Steelers chose Bradshaw over Mike Phipps, Purdue,  who went to the Cleveland Browns, two picks later.
Gerry Dulac
2:36
The best part of your observation, my friend, is it was just that -- an observation with no question!!

If the 2 DLs from Georgia are gone before pick 20 - do the Steelers go WR, CB, S or OL?
Gerry Dulac
2:37
WR. But they could have another DL in mind. However, they won't reach just to draft a DL

Hi Gerry, Boykin was picked up for the remainder of his  rookie contract which ends after this season. Does this translate into 2nd/3rd round WR pick next weekend?
Gerry Dulac
2:37
Depends if he makes the team and how long he's on the roster.
Gordie Lockbaum
2:37
Kaleb Eleby in rounds 4 to 7 worth a shot as developmental back-up QB of future? No need to waste 1st - 3rd on QB this year, right?
Gerry Dulac
2:38
Agreed

2:38
At what round would the Steelers draft a QB? Trading up in the First Round or another round?
Gerry Dulac
2:38
Rounds 4-7

Gerry, during last week's chat you seemed pretty certain the Steelers will, at the very least, use a mid to late round pick on a QB. My question is what is the point of doing that? The chances you are going to find the next Tom Brady are as likely as hitting the powerball. The reality is that you will be wasting valuable draft capital on a guy  you hope never sees the field. Shouldn't they look for a vet minimum FA and sign an undrafted rookie instead? This will give them 4 camp arms while the two at the bottom fight it out to make the roster as the number 3 QB.
Gerry Dulac
2:39
They're not trying to find the next Tom Brady. They're trying to find a third- or fourth-string QB. They don't have either one of those right now so you can pretty much take it to the bank.

Why was Hines Ward not given the opportunity to join the Steelers coaching staff?
Gerry Dulac
2:40
You'd have to ask the person in charge of that.
Alex Madison
2:40
If he is there at 20, why NOT Willis?
Gerry Dulac
2:40
Because it would be a waste. They need another impact players, not a project

Why can’t Steelers Fans take a deep breath & see what happens between MT & MR for QB this year?  We’ve certainly dealt with a lot worse before BB & who knows, maybe they play really well 😎.
Gerry Dulac
2:41
Because they can't. Thanx for being someone who can

2:41
Tuitt - realistically aren’t we looking at at guy who will either have his contact reworked / extended or he will get released?
Gerry Dulac
2:41
It will get reworked one way or another. I don't think they plan on releasing him unless they see he doesn't want to play

With a weak quarterback class, many holes to fill and really not knowing how well or poorly Trubisky will play, isn’t the smart move to draft defensive line, wide receiver, safety, cornerback, offensive tackle and maybe a couple backups at edge rusher and running back and re-evaluate next year as far as quarterback is concerned? Thanks
