Gerry,  Non draft question today.  Outside of Big Ben who do you think is the next Hall of Fame worthy Steeler?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
There will be a continual debate about Hines Ward and James Harrison, and justifiably so. I have always though Hines desired considerable attention because, beside his impressive numbers, he changed the way wide receivers played the game, not to mention the rules.

Based on your years of experience covering the Steelers and the NFL, how do you compare Steelers fans against other teams' fans in terms of their knowledge of the game?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
My experience tells me fans are the same everywhere -- and you can take from that whatever you like.
Justin
11:30
Do you give the Steelers any chance at taking Darnell Washington in the second round?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Like I always say -- you just never know. But I think that's a little high for a TE who will be a backup.

Barring trades, it looks like all of the Steeler picks before the 7th round are all going to be in a certain range of players, but no real clarity on the 7th. Are there any positions you think will get targeted here?

In retrospect, wasn’t Mitch Tribusky signed because Tomlin and Colbert were living in their fears? Mitch wasn’t that mobile after all and was inconsistent at best. In the last preseason game, I recall Mason Rudolph ran the ball on one play for 30 yards and ran over a cornerback. Do you agree in retrospect, that Mason Rudolph was as good or better than Tribusky anyway?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Not at all. Totally misfounded

Perhaps it's the suggestive photo and your article on corners that has me thinking they could trade up for Christian Gonzalez.  If they were to trade up, do you think it would be for him because he is a potential star at a position of need; or for a LT because there are so few starting caliber ones in this draft?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Dave, your thinking might not be far off. That's the one move up in the first round I think they would do -- to get one of their two CBs they really like. And he is one

Who do we take at 17? Who do we take if we trade up? Who do we take if we trade down? Thanks for your time.

Will Kevin Dotson be traded this weekend?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
That's what we're going to find out if they start wheeling and dealing.

Hey Gerry.  you mentioned the Steelers had trouble drafting corners recently.  You forgot to mention they had trouble drafting ILB, OL, and DL recently.  Is it possible it isn't the position that is the problem, but it's the most powerful man in the war room that is the problem?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Or maybe it's the people evaluating those players. During Tomlin's tenure, they have drafted Ryan Shazier, Maurkice Pouncey, David DeCastro, Cam Heyward and Stephon Tuitt. I would not compare their inability to draft a top-flight CB to ILB, OL or DL during Tomlin's tenure.

Would you agree that players should hit their prime around the time of their second contract?  If so, the players drafted around 2016-2018 should be the foundation of this team.  Two players from those drafts are on the roster.  Isn't this poor drafting the main reason the team has consistently failed so much recently?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
You are correct. And that's usually a good indicator of how successful your picks have panned out. But it's not the main reason.

Is Chase Claypool bad or just bad luck? He lost 6 games with the Steelers and 9 games with the Bears last season.
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Might be more bad luck than bad.

Had my grandson all wound up about seeing Rodgers with GB one last time with the Pack coming to town. Oh, well. To me, Ben's most exciting reg season game was the last one in '09 when he hit Wallace on the last play to win 37-36. Ben's 503 vs Rodgers 383. What's your best Ben reg game memory?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
Oh man, I've seen all of them, picking one if difficult. The Denver playoff game to get to the Super Bowl stands out the most, but that's not reg season. the one you mentioned is one. The six TDs in back-to-back games are two others.

Morning, Gerry. A lot of people are saying that Aaron Rodgers now makes the Jets a playoff team and the he was a player that can easily get them there. Since the Steelers are more than likely done at signing a big free agent, what Draftee could help us say the Steelers will now be playoff contenders?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
One of the top two CBs

11:39
Gerry, do you think the Steelers will finally win a playoff game this year?
Gerry Dulac
11:40
Goodness, I hope so. Let's see if they can get there first

Koepka and DJ in Ryder Cup. Happen or no and should it?

It should.

Hello Gerry, a non-draft question: The other day, I saw a photo of Tony Franklin, a kicker for the Eagles back in the early 1980s.  He, like others, was a barefoot kicker. Is there a rule prohibiting barefoot kicking in the NFL?
Gerry Dulac
11:40
No, just common sense. :)

Have you asked your bud Ed Bouchette who he thinks they're going to select?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Yeah, and he asked me when was the draft.

Gerry:  What is your personal rank of their needs between DE, Nose, RT, LT, SS, and CB?   Given the needs at those positions, what players at other positions would you find acceptable at 17, 32, and 49?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
CB, DL, OT

Gerry:  I have a feeling that the Steelers will surprise us by taking an edge OLB or a WR or both in their first three picks even though a draftee would project as a backup this year because they mistake quantity for quality on their current roster at CB, safety, and along the offensive and defensive lines.  Am I just living in my fears or is this a possible scenario?
Gerry Dulac
11:41
Yes you are my friend.

Lots of talk about them trading up to take an OT.  Are you buying that?  If they trade up I say it's for a CB or Carter.
Gerry Dulac
11:42
The second part of your observation is more feasible, but maybe not the Carter part.
