GM Gerry! Wish you a great summer break before training camp! New DT this week that can solidify our dl what do you think is missing to the team between now and September? Another olb a rb?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Probably. That's what will be determined in training camp.

What do you think the chances are that Ogunjobi can be a significant contributor? I guess I’m from the school that thinks there’s a reason guys are still available this time of year so I’m not optimistic.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Yes, that is true, and he was still sitting out there because of physical concerns (flunking a physical). He suffered a Lisfranc injury in the Bengals wild-card game and it apparently hasn't healed properly enough. But, if the Steelers signed him, they only did so after he passed their physical.

Gerry--Thanks for taking time to chat. In your opinion, which due had the most success with the NFL draft, Cowher and Colbert or Tomlin and Colbert?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I would say Cowher and Colbert because their drafts produced Ben and Troy, not to mention Heath Miller and Casey Hampton, to name a few others.

Gerry, Thank you for doing these chats! Any idea what might be holding up Kenny Pickett’s signing? I know it will get done. Just curious why he’s still unsigned. Thank you again for the chats!

Signed today in case you didn't hear

Hi Gerry.  Love your chats...thanks for taking my question.  I know there is a great deal being made over the starting quarterback situation, but until they get to camp and really begin the process, it seems useless to talk about who the starter will be.  IMO, it would make sense to have Trubisky start over Pickett (and Rudolph) and in a perfect world, finish the season as the starter, which would allow KP to get a year to learn and thus be more prepared for 2023 and the rigors of being a starting QB.  Thoughts on this scenario?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Doug, I'd say your scenario is kinda what they're thinking and kinda what they're hoping. But always keep in mind that teams don't draft QBs on the first round to sit and watch very long, unless Aaron Rodgers is in front of them.

Besides Trubisky getting hurt in camp, do you seriously think that Pickett can actually go out and do enough in 3 exhibition games sharing time with 3 other quarterbacks to earn the starting job or will it just be predetermined that Trubisky will be the starter in Game 1?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I don't think so, never did, But I'm willing to bet there are fans who think that might happen, or, at least, hope that will happen.

From a players perspective - what positions are our weak links?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
CB, depth at OLB and OT.

Hey Gerry, the NFLPA says that the average NFL player career is 3.3 years.  So on average there have been 3 generations of players taking the field over the past 11 years of Steelers mediocrity.  This is clearly a deficiency in drafting enough good players.  So they hire a GM with no drafting experience.  Is Steelers arrogance so great that they just assume they will win?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
Do not get caught up in the dynamics of the GM position. Yes, they promoted Omar Khan to the position, which I understand and have absolutely no problem with. But the hire they made -- Andy Weidl as asst GM -- was effectively the move they were seeking to make anyway. He is the personnel guy who has put together draft boards, which were the original prerequisites for the position. And you are taking great liberties with your math. That average NFL playing career is distorted because it includes every guy who played 1-2-3 years, which far far outnumbers the stars who make Pro Bowls and last 10-12 years.

Thank you Gerry for your expertise. How do you see the offensive line playing out? It looks to me they filled some holes but need to improve more. Thank you for your time

I applaud their attention to the position during free agency. They were moves they had to make, including getting Kendrick Green to his more natural position. Now we will find out if they were good moves.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . I find it odd that Tomlin decided not to have all the OTAs allowed under the CBA this year . Correct me if I am wrong , but i read that they had only 6 OTA and an early minicamp . I would think that with a new QB and so many new receivers , they would want to have more practices and not less . Is this because Colbert is not there any more ? Thank you
Gerry Dulac
10:22
It has nothing to do with Colbert or Omar Khan. It was Tomlin's decision. But what you are forgetting, or apparently don't know, is they actually get to report to training camp earlier this year. Instead of 15 days before the first preseason game, it's 18. And, believe me, extra days at training camp far outweigh what you see in OTAs and minicamp. That's why.

Does Najee rush for over 1600 yds this season?

He could. But I

Nobody in their right mind really thought the Steelers would honor AB’s request to retire as a Steeler!  That being said, do you think he will one day be added to the Steelers Hall of Fame Honors?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Nope. Not after the way he behaved.

With the addition of Ogunjobi, what position group would you deem the weakest where they could potentially add prior or during training camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
OLB. RB

Happy Thursday Gerry!  What's next on the Steelers shopping list OLB & RB?  Do you think it is wiser for the Steelers to invest in positional depth or an over the top contract for DJ ($20M or more)  I vote depth!
Gerry Dulac
10:25
It won't be DJ, not this year. I think they had their over-the-top contract with Minkah. I don't think they have a shopping list, either, at least not right now. Only until they see what they have at the end of camp, including injuries.

hell Gerry. So if we take a minute to think about the Steelers comments about Matt Canada’s offense,  the conclusion is that the team went into 2021 with an offensive design that didn’t match the talent! Additionally I have always been under the assumption that a good coach devises a game plan that syncs up with his personnel!
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I think their issues on offense had more to do with being out-of-sync with other more basic issues. Like formations, play calls, etc. But you're right about what a good coach does.

If you were a betting man would you take the under 8.5 wins?

No.

Who is the most likely "starter" to be unseated in training camp?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Good question. Dotson? Edmunds? Wormley?

10:29
Hey Gerry! Thanks for the chats. I am sure I am not the first to ask this, but what are your thoughts on the Ogunjobi signing?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I think it's a really good signing if he is healthy and can play

Given the issues social media has caused, does Claypool's insistence on his 'Tik Tok' brand doom him to being a one-contract WR?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Only if that tik-tok becomes boom-boom on the field
