What specifically helped rookie cornerback Donte Kent earn a spot on the 53-man roster despite limited preseason action? How confident is the coaching staff in his ability to contribute immediately?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
They obviously are. Kinda of like Cory Trice a couple years ago. A low-round pick whom they really like, despite not playing much because of injury

Hi Gerry, thanks for your time. Do you think that the Steelers might have taken a chance on drafting Jaxson Dart if they had not whiffed so badly on Pickett a few years ago? Discounting that it was preseason, Dart looks like he has the tools to be a very good quarterback for the Giants.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Nope

What’s the latest on Nick Herbig’s hamstring? If he’s unavailable, how does the coaching staff plan to compensate for his absence on that edge?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Well, that's why they drafted Sawyer

Are the Steelers in the Safety or WR market after the cuts yesterday.
Gerry Dulac
10:29
It's possible, but there's no sense of urgency if that's what you're asking

With Will Howard headed to injured reserve, how secure is the QB depth chart behind Aaron Rodgers? What roles are Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson expected to play early in the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Their role is to stand on the sideline and watch Rodgers play. And I think the QB depth chart is pretty secure, don't you?

Hi Gerry, with the 53 man roster released yesterday, doesn’t it seem very likely the Steelers will either pick up or trade for another wide receiver?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I wouldn't say very likely. But they call it the "initial 53-man roster" for a reason

Given the surprise roster cuts and early injuries, what are the biggest concerns looking ahead to Week 1? Conversely, what gives the team optimism about where they stand relative to AFC competition?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
What are the surprise roster cuts??

Is the team actively pursuing players like Marquez Valdes‑Scantling? What would be the fit—did you have specific traits or schemes in mind for adding someone like that to the offense?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
I don't think they are actively pursuing anybody. Doesn't mean they aren't kicking the tires on several guys

Good morning Gerry.  Were you surprised by any of the Steelers’ cuts?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:31
I was not

With Harmon sidelined for 4–6 weeks due to a sprained MCL, how is the defensive line expected to hold up early in the season? Will Jack Sawyer step into a larger role, or are other adjustments being made?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
He will not be out 4-6 weeks. Two games, maybe only one

10:32
What made the Steelers entrust Corliss Waitman with the punting duties over veteran Cameron Johnston? Was the decision driven more by salary savings or by Waitman’s on-field performance?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
It was driven by how far he drives the ball.

With Robert Woods released and Scotty Miller elevated, plus the mention of Marquez Valdes‑Scantling as a possible target—how do you view the current state and depth of the wide receiver group going into Week 1? Are more moves expected?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
You never know. As for a couple earlier questions, I was mildly surprised about Robert Woods being released, only because they brought him in to possibly help and he was very involved early in camp. But when I saw how little he was being used the last two preseason games, I assumed he was on his way out.

Thought cutting Sermon was a mistake? Thoughts
Gerry Dulac
10:35
I like him. Might be back

Good morning, Gerry: I just placed a very large bet that Stairway would be the first question to kick off the chat.

Easy money. He is every week

Are the Steelers going to go after a safety or wr after the cuts?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
Anything is possible, but don't think for a second it's a matter of urgency with them

10:36
Who do you think is most at risk of losing their spot on the 53 to a cutdown day player release pickup?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Somebody who goes on IR

Morning! My biggest concern about this team might be organization and communication on BOTH sides of the ball. People are acting like it was only the defense and only last year. Now, with so many packages in the secondary and AR in a new-to-him offense, did you see evidence in camp that this has been a priority? Let’s remember that this is the team that had Ben and WR’s talking to each other pre snap (in a bad way) and inside LB’s covering good WR’s.
Gerry Dulac
10:38
That's always an issue with so many new players. That's why you can't expect too much early in the season. It will take some time.

10:38
Which available WR are the Steelers most interested in right now?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Hard to tell. We'll see if they really are interested

Hey Gerry, did the Steelers have to keep players on the initial 53 to move them to IR after cut down day? If not, im confused by the qb choices. Could you also explain the rule that allows them to cut Clark but not put him on waiver wire? Thanks -
Gerry Dulac
10:40
No, they could have placed two players on IR before the final cutdown but it had to be on the day of the cutdown. As for Clark, he was a veteran so he is considered "terminated," not waived.

Hi Gerry, love the chats.  Do you think the Steelers will go back to blitzing more due to the improved strength in the back end?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Depends how much pressure they get from their front people. But it certainly sounds like a good idea
