Been reading a lot about Herbig’s ability to get after the QB. And he does have the talent. Don’t hear much about his run game ability. How’s Herbig on run defense?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
That's like asking how's George Pickens on screen passes?

I’m starting to assume Russel Wilson is hurt worse than is being led on.   Largely because I refuse to believe that a respected coach like Mike Tomlin, having seen the Pickett/Canada offense for the last two years, would see what Fields has done so far and think it’s good enough.  Let Wilson play, then compare what you see in regular season games and decide what looks better.  If what Fields offers really is better than what Wilson gives you, change back.  But I don’t think simply getting to your destination makes you a good driver, and similarly I don’t think winning 2 games they way they have makes Fields some kind of no-brained starter.

Sam, let me preface my answer by telling you Mike Tomlin NEVER lets on how badly a player might be injured. Case in point: At his weekly news conference yesterday, he said Tyler Matakevich has a hamstring injury but they would "leave the light on for him" to play against the Chargers. An hour or two later, Matakevich was placed on IR. Wilson has a calf injury and it recurred and he's going to be 36. They are being very careful with it, which is the prudent thing to do. Go ask Christian McCaffrey

Is the NFL hurting its product by over-officiating? Plenty of marginal calls, both for and against the Steelers in two games. Will this level of scrutiny change as the season wears on? Or is this the norm for the 2024 season?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
Yes they are. And I can tell you the owners are not or will not be very happy about it. They are concerned about the "watchability" of their product and how penalties, replays and commercials can slow down their game

Greetings, chances of Dan Moore being resigned to a long term contract and Broderick jones traded? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:28
As of right now, just about none

what is your prediction of the score for Sunday's game with Chargers?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
You'll have to wait till Sunday's PG to find out

I’ve been impressed with the rookies on the offensive line.  It’s nice to have a center who can hike the ball and hold his own.  What are your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
I agree with you. And he can do more than hike the ball and hold his own, if you watch him

According to your answer last week, the Steeler’s signing of Russell Wilson (injured and can’t play) drove away two high QB draft picks, both Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett. In your opinion, was the signing of Russell Wilson (injured and can’t play) really worth it to drive away two high draft picks, or would the Steelers have been better off this year seeing if Kenny could make a big jump under a new OC and go back to Mason if not?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Apparently, Bill, they didn't think so. But I hated to see Mason leave.
Big Steel

The offense remains "offensive"! The only QB since Big Ben to score TD's with a little frequency was Mason Rudolph. What is it----1) QB 2) Coaching 3) Philosophy 4) All of the above.... 5) other, with your thoughts.....

Can you describe what you think the difference is between a great NFL team and a bad NFL team? It is just a quarterback, a set of skill players, coaching, combination of things or something else?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I've always thought the NFL was a coaches league more than any other professional sport. Every NFL locker room is filled with guys who are big, fast, can run and jump; it's who puts them in the best positions to succeed. Of course, it helps when you have an elite QB, because he makes everyone better, including the WRs and TEs.

Happy Wednesday Gerry ! Do you think Roman Wilson will have a chance to play before the bye?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Probably not much, though they will likely try to force-feed him into the lineup because he was a third-round pick

10:33
Do you foresee Steelers offense be more effective after playing 3-4 games ?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
Yes I do. Good or bad, do not think for a minute that the team you are watching in weeks 1-2-3 will be the same team you watch in weeks 11-12-13

Hello Gerry, I was going through some scenarios in my mind about Russ and it led me to thinking is there anyway the Steelers are delaying his return until the return of Isaac Seumalo? or at least wanting to get Seumalo to play a full game and then get Russ cooking?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
The two are not mutually compatible, though it is possible both could be ready to return in Indy, 73 for sure
Curt in Curtisville
10:35
Also have the Steelers examined the fact that TD's are not being scored enough and that a New WR is actually desperately needed right now? and have they reached out to some of these teams already struggling?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I'm sure they are well aware. And what WRs are available to go get that they might like? Apparently, not many

10:36
Gerry, do you think the experience / maturity difference between Fautanu and Jones contribute to the difference in development rate?  While the same age Jones had 8 starts in college while Fautanu had 4 years.  Also, immeadiately taking him out of his normal position (Kendrick Green) and adding that to the mix may have slowed development?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
There's probably a little bit of that
Bulldog
10:37
Hi Gerry.  Is Pat Meyer a good o-line coach?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Yes he is
Bulldog
10:37
What do you think of that right tackle rotation?  How about Tomlin's explanation of it?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
All I know is this -- they don't want Broderick Jones sitting on the bench.

Appreciate the great up to date info. Will there be a locker room problem If they start Wilson as soon as he's healthy ?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
None whatsoever. This is the NFL, not junior high
Jake
10:38
Would Adam Thielen be a nice number WR2 for this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Yes he would, but just because he's a bit unhappy with the Carolina offense doesn't mean he's being traded
redsteeler69
10:39
The media and Steeler fans need to quit worrying stats and pay more attention to the won-lost column.
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I'll do my part and let the media guys know

Does the QB room at any point this year get awkward? No matter the circumstance the QBs and the Steelers need each for 2025. (Roles to be determined after 2024)
Gerry Dulac
10:40
Let me say this -- if it didn't get awkward in 2023 with Trubisky, Pickett and Rudolph, I really don't think this situation will be problematic at all
