Hi Gerry. Is Coach Tomlin in danger of losing the locker room? Are the players not responding to him the way they have in the past?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I don't think that's the case. I just think they are not good enough or deep enough to overcome injuries. And I will remind everyone  who so quickly forgets again -- there is no more No. 7

It is often mentioned about D. Bush that he has outstanding athletic ability but has very little “football instinct”.  I see the same thing in Chase Claypool….phenomenal talent but no clue how to apply it on a football field.  Do these two point to a philosophical problem the Steelers have in evaluating for the draft ie maybe they value combine stats more than video of play during the player’s college career?  Or does the college game, even at an elite level, allow superior athletic ability to “hide” a lack of feel for the game?

Tomlim’s stubbornness and inability to make changes along with his ego seem to be extremely detrimental to the Steelers. It has been said he is highly involved in roster development and drafting which has been terrible.
Gerry Dulac
10:18
His stubbornness, to use your word, has bode well for him in the past when things go awry. Now, in terms of drafting, that is another issue. Weekly chat-goers will recall me saying many times in the spring the Steelers don't need a quarterback on the first round, they need a dominant defensive lineman. That is their biggest problem area. And what remains their biggest problem area?? Right

Has Canada ever explained why the offense doesn't utilize   the middle of the field much? It has to be an intentional philosophy at this point, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
Some of that could be on the quarterback. It depends what defenses are allowing or taking away. Not as simple as saying 'let's attack the middle of the field," unless the opposing defense is giving you that area. Kinda like the Steelers give opposing offenses.

Morning GD!  I think if Steelers make any trade in coming weeks (outside qb), it will be with Claypool.  I don’t see him getting a 2nd contract here. He still has value.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
He will not get a second contract here. They have already paid 18 and George Pickens is their rising star. Claypool will get a second contract somewhere else.

Do you believe that the Organization is going to have to step in and force MT hand on staff hires?  Seems like we haven’t had a solid staff of Coordinators since Cowher left.  Why is that?
Gerry Dulac
10:21
Believe me, it has happened before and it can certainly happen (or will) again.

Hi Gerry . Thank you as always for the chat . I was in favor of picking Najee in the draft but he has not lived up to the hype , at least this year . If Warren can produce 4 yards per carry behind the same offensive line compared to 1.8 yards of Harris , than he should become RB 1 , as sacrilegious as it seems , specially if Tomlin talks about making changes . When Tomlin says it is a reflection of how team is performing , it is not holding the person responsible of how they are performing . Same thing can be said about Johnson with drops and Pickens . Do you agree ? May be Tomlin can find courage to deliver the news during a dinner at his house . Thank you very much .
Gerry Dulac

I do agree with your point on Harris, and I think you will see that on Sunday.

At this point, do you think it’s worth while to bench guys like Claypool & Bush so others who have more heart can get a hat?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
It is always hard to quantify heart vs talent, and I have never been one to try to gauge someone's heart.

Historically if the offense has a bad day the defense bails them out.  Likewise, if the defense is off the offense steps up or special teams.  No unit is playing well.  What gives?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
You left out special teams. To your point, that's why they're 1-4.

Hello . Thank you as always for the chat . How would you evaluate Pickett performance ? Even though there is not much to
Gerry Dulac
10:24
I had no problem whatsoever with his performance. I thought he did very well. Made quick decisions, good throws, moved the team up and down the field. But let's not forget -- no touchdowns.

Gerry. What former steeler (at his prime) would help this team the most?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Good question. Keeping it modern-day -- No. 7

Morning GD - are there “any” personnel changes you would make going into week 6 that coach Dulac would make?  Respect your opinion and you’re around the team and it’s practices.  Does Robinson or Loudermilk get a hat this week?  Anyone else deserve a shot?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
That's just it Zamo -- I don't really see anyone  deserving of a shot who can make a difference. Because of injuries, we already saw a bunch of backups in Buffalo who could not do the job.

Do you recall one captain losing his starting job and a second in jeopardy of losing his?

After 5 weeks - Steelers only rank above Washington for NFL standings - do they have to be dead last before we can say REBUILD?

Gerry,. Zeise wrote a couple days ago about all the shortcomings the Steelers have.  By the comments his article was spot on.  Did u read it & if so do you agree with it?
Gerry Dulac

I did not. Sorry

Good morning Gerry.  Wow what a mess!   A wise coach from a galaxy far away said... "We have issues and they are many."  Something like that.
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Ha. Yes he did. But he was talking about a player, not a team.

I asked a while back what would get fixed first, the Ravens defense (looked bad at the time) or the Steelers offense. It looks like we know that answer now.  So now my question is which will get fixed first: the Steelers offense or the Steelers defense?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
You're making these questions too tough to answer. If I have to stop and ponder the answer, you, me and the Steelers are in trouble.

Kenny Pickett was described as being an NFL ready QB. I have never heard that description used with our OC. Is it time to allow our NFL ready personnel to have more influence in the game planning and plays that we call.  Especially once we see the defensive alignments at the line of scrimmage?
Gerry Dulac
10:31
Hate to tell you Dave, that ain't happening. Good gawd, it didn't happen last year with a HOF QB...until he said heck on it
Irwin M. "Fletch" Fletcher
10:31
Do you think Mark Robinson will get a "hat" this week? Bush has been terrible for most of the year. It's clearly a rebuild or transition year, and Bush does not appear to be in the future plans. I'm not saying Robinson is going to suddenly make the defense better. But they could at least see if Robinson can develop into a player on defense
Gerry Dulac
10:32
I think they already know Robinson will develop into a very good player. I'd like to see him on the field, too.
