HI Jason.  Love the work.  Next time you come out here, check out Prescott.  It's an awesome family town, especially around Christmas.  It's a true taste of the old west.
Jason Mackey
2:04
I will try to remember that. Thank you!
Bobby

Hasn't this Malkin slump been going on for longer than usual? Is it time to worry?
Jason Mackey
2:05
I don't think so. He does this every year. Give it time. He'll explode with an insane run soon. Watch.
Kim
2:05
What makes Jarry so untradable in your opinion?
Jason Mackey
2:05
I don't think he's untradable. I think he's a young goalie. I think he's very much tradable.

Geno’s gotta be getting pretty close to 1,000 career pts...  Any idea what the org will do to recognize that accomplishment?
Jason Mackey
2:06
He is. Believe like Sid: video, special insert, story, celebration, whole deal. Honestly, I don't think it'll be different than that at all.

I watched WBS here in Charlotte last weekend.. I was with an NHL scout whom I’ve gotten to know pretty well..He and there team really like Ethan Prow...might be something to consider deadline day..I have to tell you not so much Tristan Jarry
Jason Mackey
2:06
Same stuff I've been hearing. Thanks, Dan.
Arnold Layne
2:06
Do you think the penguins have talked to Patrik Berglund?
Jason Mackey
2:06
I don't think so.
Andy
2:06
What incentive do these guys have to drop their gloves and fight?  Oleksiak and ZAR both were injured in the act, and Oleksiak’s spot was taken and he was a healthy scratch for a few games.  Does the risk not outweigh the reward?
Jason Mackey
2:07
It's debatable, for sure. But I think helping out your teammates trumps common sense sometimes. The testosterone or whatever gets going, and you're just not thinking about that stuff.

Which teams does brass have in his no trade? And would he waive it to get out of pitt
Jason Mackey
2:07
He would, but I don't think that would be a problem. I don't think anyone knows the teams.

What kind of food have you been eating on your West Coast trip?  Have you had a working lunch/dinner or sit down with any of the players or Rutherford?
Jason Mackey
2:09
Ha. Those sorts of things aren't possible, Gordo. Had a litle of everything, to be honest. Some seafood in Anaheim. Wings and brisket last night. Another BBQ night in Palo Alto. Some pasta in Haight St. Don't know what to try tonight. Maybe some Mexican/Southwest.

We've seen it happen before but can the Pens start giving out Large size t-shirts for giveaways instead of XL? I want to let people see my shine in public if you know what I mean
Jason Mackey
2:09
Ha. You've come to the wrong department.

Thoughts on Sam Bennett? Has not met expectations in CGY since being drafted and he's the type of player GMJR likes (low cost, underperforming player looking to rejuvenate career). He plays a physical game, and the Pens seem to be in the market for that. I think he can also play C if anything..
Jason Mackey
2:10
He's a minus-44 since 2015. That worries me when we're talking about what the Penguins could potentially get. Can probably aim a little higher than Sam Bennett.

Last playoffs Jamie and Schultz seemed to click. I’d like to see sully try them again before deciding to trade him.
Jason Mackey
2:11
That's fair. And maybe they do. But who do you take out?
Mike
2:11
Did you hang with Snoop Dogg at all?
Jason Mackey
2:11
Yep. In the NBA visitors room at Staples Center. For about 3 minutes. Asked him two questions. He didn't call me "Boo" or anything like he did Penguins PR Lady Jen Bullano.

That strategy involving the Pens getting Duchene is 1) unlikely 2) seems risky in that they would be bringing in a guy that’s been the 1 or 2C wherever he’s been and pushing him down to the third line could be less than ideal for tht guy. Sound familiar?
Jason Mackey
2:12
It very much does. And I think the Penguins would be wary of that. I also think the Senators would want a lot of what the Penguins don't have -- picks and prospects. Because just a first wouldn't get it done.

Didnt we see , and the Pens already see Wilson sort of in TK?  Except TK could actually score an occasional goal off of his back?
Jason Mackey
2:13
If you're saying the Pens consider Wilson someone like TK who stays in the minors, they don't. When they made him captain, they assured him this wasn't the end of the road.

Why don't you have Mark Madden in your top 3? He's the only person in this town entertaining enough to listen to. 93.7 is the 'B' team for a reason
Jason Mackey
2:13
Well, 1. Probably because I work for 93.7. And 2. I also don't go on with Madden because of No. 1.

Question 1: Do you have any idea (and can you say) what the injury nagging Matt Murray was?  It couldn't have been a concussion if he was trying to play through it, right?  Question 2: I know he wears a gold cross around his neck but his approach to goaltending seems almost Buddhist in its simplicity.  One puck at a time, the job is to stop the puck.  Have you ever tried to learn more about his philosophy on life/hockey/religion?
Jason Mackey
2:15
It was a lower-body injury. That's the most I know or anyone else knows, for that matter. ... We've talked about it some, not a ton. I do not believe he's a Buddhist, although he is very much into mindfulness and some of the principles are related. So I wouldn't doubt he has a passing knowledge. As for any specific denomination, no, I can't say I have a concrete idea.

Was there any sense that Grant was unhappy with his role here?
Jason Mackey
2:15
Yeah, I don't think any guy who was playing as little as he was is gonna be thrilled.
Gordo
2:15
Mackey you seem pretty straightforward in your analysis of players and presenting the facts without judgment or bias.  Was there ever a time a player, coach, or GM took exception with a critique of your own regarding their work?
Jason Mackey
2:16
I'm sure. People will disagree with things -- not a lot, but it does happen -- and that's totally fine. Sometimes a talk occurs, though not often. It's always respectful. I've never had anyone be a jerk about anything.

Does Malkin need a spanking, a time-out, take away his phone or tie him up in his room until he decides to behave? What options do we have with him?
