Ha. Can't force the predictions. And you're right on the jerseys. I think they're 6-1 this season in them.
HB
1:53
Can Kendall replace Pierre permanently she actually gives good analysis.
Jason Mackey
1:53
That was rough. I like Pierre, but I'm all for equal opportunity ... and that was a bunch of crap.
HB
1:53
Do you think the penguins need a top 9 winger or do you think they are fine with who they have.
Jason Mackey
1:53
I think they need another top-nine piece. Could be a wing. Could be a center. But they need a piece.
1:55
It all depends on demand. I'm not going to try and project a market for five different guys and have you guys think it's accurate. Plus, the only one of those five they would conceivably move is Sheahan. Can't imagine he would net much more than a third or low second.

If the Pens were to place the following players on the market, what would you expect in return as far as draft pick round?  Simon, Cullen, Sheahan, Wilson, DeSmith
Matt

I know Malkin’s play has been up and down but he’s at 985 career points as he’s nearing 1000 I would’ve thought that would be a little more talked about or is that just me?
Jason Mackey
1:56
HIs 1,000 points, you mean? Yeah, it has gone under the radar a bit because there's been a bigger storyline with him. Although if I would here writing about Malkin being close to 1,000, yinz would've been saying, "He's been terrible. How are you ignoring that?" Can't win.

Are we near the end of the Brassard era in Pittsburgh? At this point a trade seems inevitable, if even for draft pick or so to use as currency to acquire another player.
Jason Mackey
1:56
I agree with that.
Sia
1:56
GMJR said this am brassard is “our 3rd line center”  and he wouldn’t speculate beyond that. What is your take away from that?
Jason Mackey
1:56
That he had a chance to say something about liking Brassard's game, wanting to keep him there, seeing signs, whatever. And he didn't. Brassard is as good as gone. Just a matter of when.

Jason,  love the chats.  What move do you think JR has up his sleeve before the trade deadline?
Jason Mackey
1:57
I think he's going to get an impact forward. Center or a wing. Depends on deals available.
Sia
1:57
Also don’t you believe Brassard’s value is pretty low at this point? What /if would we get in return? Maybe we should just ride this one off this season
Jason Mackey
1:58
Their value with Brassard is opening up the money. They're not going to try and make a hockey trade there ... or at least they probably shouldn't. If they can, great. But I don't think it's terribly likely. If they can find someone to take him, they can repurpose those assets to go get someone.
Rahn

On draft pick accumulation: 1. the fourth rounder from Buffalo that came in the Conor Sheary deal turns into a third if he gets 40 points or 20 goals. At 8 goals and 13 assists, pulling for a big ending for him. 2. If these picks are not used to bring another player in, they could be fodder to move up in the second or into the third, as they've slid up and back in the draft in recent years.
Jason Mackey
1:58
Is there a question in here, Rahn?
Paul
1:59
The power play has looked pretty disjointed lately. When they do practice it - are there set plays they try to run? - cuz' it looks like a free-for-all during the games.
Jason Mackey
1:59
They do practice set plays, but they also encourage freelancing ... within certain parameters. Where the Penguins get themselves into trouble is forcing things when the opposing team is pressuring. They need to cut down on the fancy crap whenever this happens and maybe get back to the script.

Jason,   Are you buying the upper body injury designation to Brassard or is there something more to his not playing last night?
Jason Mackey
2:00
I had been hearing he was dinged up. But it's hard because everybody is dinged up and I'm not a doctor. Nor do I have full access to info. I will say that I don't think it's completely bogus.
Rahn
2:00
When you're all-in as the Penguins have been during their run, no prospect is untouchable, but who's the most vaunted that they'd like to hold on to at this point? Addison? Bjorkvist?
Jason Mackey
2:01
Probably both, but you answered your own question, Rahn. Nobody is untouchable when you're in the situation they're in.
Rahn
2:01
Does the team value Tristan Jarry more than the rest of the league does or has there not been a good deal to be struck with him? Also, is the fact that his contract changes into a one-way deal next year hinder any possible move?
Jason Mackey
2:02
It means they have to trade him before the start of the 2018-19 season, but I don't know if it hinders anything. I can't say how the rest of the league values Jarry, but I can say this on GMJR: He's not going to do this just to do it. He wants return. He knows a good young goalie can fetch a decent return, and he's not going to make a trade unless he gets it.
Mark
2:02
Hey Jason.  I just saw that the Pens have a home game tomorrow and then a game in Toronto the next night.  Brutal!  I'm guessing the 2 all stars, Letang and Sid will be catching some Z's on Super Bowl Sunday.  I assume there is no thought on cutting down their minutes (especially Letang) in these next two.
Jason Mackey
2:02
Uh, no. They're in a playoff race. This is what they get paid to do.
Will
2:02
Jason, is brassard really hurt or have they seen enough?
Jason Mackey
2:03
I think there's some semblance of an injury there. I can't speak directly to how much.
Jeffster
2:03
Do you think Geno is finally going to come out of his slump?  Although he only had one assist last night, I liked what I saw (including him dropping the gloves with Stamkos).
Jason Mackey
2:03
He had two assists, Jeffster, but yes, I think that last night was an encouraging sign. That being said, he has had other encouraging signs. The trick will be keeping this going. I think they found a nice recipe with Rust and Kessel, though. That line was good.
T
2:04
Does it strike you a little odd that brass was out for an ‘injury’ but practiced today? Protecting the player from injury for another team?
Jason Mackey
2:04
Maybe. He's also been dealing with something, and I don't like speculating on this sort of stuff. We simply don't know. I wish the NHL was more transparent and we did. But they're not and don't want to be.
Lee
2:04
does the player leading up to a trade have any idea like are they kept in the loop or do they find out when the rest of us do
Jason Mackey
2:05
They always find out before -- just depends on how much more. And players aren't stupid. They know when their name is out there, whether they want to admit it or not. If Brassard gets traded, he won't be surprised, regardless of what he says. Nor was Oleksiak overly surprised that he got dealt, although I'm willing to bet he didn't think he would be going back to Dallas.
Adam Smith
2:07
How high are the Pens on Tanner Pearson right now? Is he a guy they might look to move or do they think he's a good fit now and going into next year?
Jason Mackey
2:07
They're fine with him, but if they had the opportunity to move him, I don't think they would be against it by any stretch. He's been good in spurts, but he has also disappeared for extended stretches.
Paul
2:07
I think I’m the only person here that doesn’t believe brassard will be dealt— what upgrade do you seriously get? Do you agree?
