I think it's too early to give you an accurate answer on that, honestly. A lot can change. Early thoughts: nah, they don't need to. But a lot can and will change.

With all do respect that was a bad answer, oh my oh my Kessel and Malkin have the most PP points on the team. It’s almost like they get 3-4 minutes a night on the power play. Who leads the league in short handed goals allowed. Which two players need to be the first back on a turnover? Oh the two half wall players? Oh that’s right. Also, how many power plays of Phil or Geno not winning a board battle or never getting the puck into the offensive zone is gonna take for change to occur? I don’t care that they lead the team in PP points. Too many nothing power plays, fix it.

Why not just resign Cole last year instead of paying Johnson.  Gotta think if Cole was offered 5x3.25M he would have stayed, no?  He gives them their perceived physical defenseman who kills penalties AND he’s not a complete plug...

Sullivan did not want Cole on this team. Thought he talked too much. As such, there was never a serious conversation -- although GMJR did check -- about Cole coming back.

People complain about Simon’s inability to finish (which isn’t true, 10-15 goal pace which is pretty good for an NHL F given his lack of PP minutes) but clamor for Hagelin and his stone hands back. What gives? Someone here praised !@

Simon is on pace for 9.8 goals this season and has three in his last 35 games. I don't think criticizing that lack of production is absurd.

These men are professionals.  Why is it so hard for them to consistently earn the high salaries they are paid?

Because they're also human and the other teams try and are very good, too. It's not like the Penguins wake up one day and say, "Hey, I just think we won't care today." We all have bad days at work. On my side of the fence, I can tell you it's absolutely a grind. Some days I just suck. It's difference than them, yes, but when the season is this long, man, there just days when you don't have it. It's tough to explain.

Sid’s having a great season offensively and defensively - what are your thoughts on his shot at a Selke? And how about him hitting 100 points?

I don't think he'll get the Selke, although I think he deserves it. For whatever reason -- not locally -- there's just not enough buzz about it. Watching him every night, though, he's right there. And, yes, I do think he'll get to 100 points. I'm saying he'll get 102 if he plays every game the rest of the way.

Everybody complains about Simon over Blueger, but why not Blueger over Cullen?  He is toast at this point.

I think what got GMJR worked up is that all of the "fans" who somehow think they know more about hockey and team building than people who have spent their whole, and spent it successfully, in hockey.  I would suspect that none of us has ever played one second in major college hockey let alone the NHL....there's more to an effective team than just stats and analytics....

I agree with that. I also think he probably knows the deal doesn't look great, and he's the one people are blaming for it. I also think we need to be mindful of the pressure Rutherford is under this time of year. These are stressful times for him, too.

I personally tend to agree with you about Puljujarvi being an intriguing name...but would there actually be any point in making that trade?  I mean...he's kind of got the potential to fall into the same pit that Daniel Sprong did (young offensive player used almost exclusively on the 3rd/4th lines), no?

I wouldn't be surprised, no. The trick would be finding a taker. He has one goal in 14 games. Teams aren't exactly lining up for that type of production.
