Thanks, Avi.

Have not cared for Rutherford's moves this year. Niemi should never have been an option with his decline and disaster of a season last year. Reaves doesn't add anything IMO. Hunwick, meh. Sheahan, only goal an empty netter (I felt Scott Wilson is an upgrade over Sheahan). McKegg not the answer at 3C. Clearly, the losses of Cullen, Bonino and Kunitz have hurt their depth scoring. What would a smart move or two be to get this team back on track? Sprong in the lineup can be no worse than the players on the 3rd/4th line now.
Jason Mackey
2:10
It sounds like GMJR should ask you for a smart move, Bill, not me. Just messin' with you. Said earlier about Patrick Maroon. Edmonton needs a D. Cole for Maroon as the centerpiece of a package. That would be intriguing.

You got Hags as the poster boy for this chat....Conveniently falling. Was there meaning behind this pic? Thoughts on how to get him off of the books or trade bait?
Jason Mackey
2:11
I don't set up the chat. One of my bosses does that. He needs to score first. Unless, of course, some team is high on Cole, and they can try to package Hagelin with Cole.

I think you noted awhile back, you don't like to talk about "windows of opportunity" for teams, but realistically, what is the window left with this core? 3-5 years, or are we looking at less?
Jason Mackey
2:12
I know you don't like to talk about ________ ... so here, let me ask you about _______. Think I'm going to try that one with my wife. ... I would say 3-5 years is fair, although you can't predict the future.
Mike Lange
2:12
Did you call Arnold Slick from Turtle Creek? He's looking for you.
Jason Mackey
2:12
Mikey! Miss having you around on the road.

What is your all-time favorite Air Supply song?
Jason Mackey
2:12
Whatever one is the shortest in duration.
Bill
2:13
I do not understand why no penalty for running in to the goalie Murray was not called.  No pen player push him.
Jason Mackey
2:13
Fair, Bill. Got an email about that. Not sure I understand it, either.
Joe

What is the benefit to keeping Maata vs Cole?
Jason Mackey
2:14
Maatta is under contract, at a very good rate, for a couple years. Cole is out the door after the season ... so you can get something for him if you have the means to get by without him. Clearly the Penguins feel they're going to be able to do that.
Joe
2:14
What is the benefit of keeping Maata vs. Cole? Maata would attract a higher end 3rd line center while keeping Cole would help the hurting defensive blue line. Maata's missed presence would not compare to Cole. Cole could be re-signed to what Maata makes. Again all contingent on the relationship of the coaching staff and Cole
Jason Mackey
2:14
Believe I just got this one, Joe.
Ian Cole
2:14
How long will it be until Jim trades me?!  I'm too good of a hockey player to be scratched day after day.
Jason Mackey
2:14
You're playing Friday, looks like.
Mickey H

Sugaree or Althea?
Jason Mackey
2:14
Ooooh, that's tough. Sugaree. But it's close.

It looks like MAF is still out with his concussion.  Any idea whether he has reached out to Sid regarding treatment, etc?  Also, since MAF is gone who is Sid's seat partner on the flights?
Jason Mackey
2:15
Good question. I don't know that one. Will have to find out. I do know Reaves has started playing cards. Learned that today. With Geno, Phil and ... actually I don't know who else plays. Reaves spends a lot of time with Sid, Geno and Phil.
Sulley
2:15
How silly will my Cole rant look if GMJR trades him tomorrow? Will GMJR keep me appraised of the situation, or keep his two-time Stanley Cup winning coach in the dark? Please advise.
Jason Mackey
2:16
Might look a little weird, but Sullivan also might've been speaking on the idea that the relationship between him and Cole had been strained. He didn't specify.
Avi

Here we go Steelers, Here we....oh wait, this is a Pens chat. Lets do this Jason!!!
Jason Mackey
2:17
You got it. Although I don't actually do anything for the team, other than cover it.

in regards to the joe starkey article about patric hornqvist i would love to keep him but the price ranges he thinks we can get him for is a little low i feel like people would love to throw money at him what do you feel?
Jason Mackey
2:17
I agree. I think he's already priced himself out of Pittsburgh if he gets to July 1.
HB
2:17
We lost alot of character but if you look around the league i feel like in the league you see alot of insane young talent but not alot of young character guys and i know character is built through experience but you identify mcdavid as the next crosby but you cant really identify the next hornqvist if you understand what i mean?
Jason Mackey
2:18
I do. Which is why it's that much more important to sign Hornqvist to an extension. Aren't a lot of those dudes around.

Hi Jason, love your work and following my hometown teams while living over here on the "other" side of the state. Question about the Pens core of Sid, Geno, Phil, and Letang who are all 30 or 31 currently. With the way the game is being played now - more speed, fewer dirty/dangerous hits, what is a reasonable expectation for how long these guys might play? Obviously major injury or multiple minor ones can shorten the window, but have these 4 ever said or indicated how long they want to play? Could you imagine them hanging around (and producing) until Jagr age?? haha just kidding about that one... sort of...
Jason Mackey
2:19
HI Sarah. Thanks for the kind words. Appreciate you hanging out. They have not said. I think Sid could pull a Jagr. He loves hockey that much. If Letang could stay healthy, maybe he would. I don't know if I see Phil or Geno sticking around that long. Either way, I don't think we're at the end-of-the-career spot yet, nor do I think we're even close to it.
RPK
2:19
I don't see much out of #15.  Does not use his size or have a finishing touch.  Your thoughts?
Jason Mackey
2:20
Not enough, anyway. I like his D zone play, faceoffs, PK, all that's great. Responsible player. Won't embarrass himself. Has fit in nicely to the team. Just not enough offense.
JP
2:20
If the Pens move Cole, what do you see them getting back? Would it be a RHD, a 3C or a depth scoring player?
Jason Mackey
2:20
3C or depth-scoring player. If they get a D, that might be a part, but it wouldn't be the primary component.
Paul
2:20
GMJR recently stated he's concerned with the offensive production of the third line (rightfully so), but downplayed the production of the fourth line. A big reason for winning back-to-back was the depth and production of all four lines. Do you think it's time to bring in some more talent for the fourth line? Maybe swap out McKegg and Kuni with some WBS Pens with some more offensive upside?
Jason Mackey
2:21
I don't, Paul. And here's why: They don't have anyone ready to fill those roles. Sprong is the closest, but he's not a fourth-line guy. We saw that with Mike Johnston. He needs to play with other talented players. As for someone like, Teddy Blueger, who profiles more as a bottom-six guy in the NHL, he's simply not knocking down the door yet.
JP
2:21
Part 2: I would think Bozak as that C, Maroon as the depth scoring or Gudbranson as RHD. Anything on those players or others? Thank you :)
