The Pens did a Mom’s trip in 2014, but since then have done 4 straight Dad’s trips. Is this to avoid Kessel’s mom screaming obscenities at Sid like she use to when he was a child playing high school hockey. (link to the famous story: http://letsgodu.blogspot.com/2007/01/dont-you-wish-you-witnessed-this-...)

I don't think so, but that's hilarious. Honestly, I did not know about that. They're due for a Mom's Trip. I'll bet it happens next season. They should just alternate them.

A lot of people always seem to be on board the "trade maatta" train, but is he actually  that easily replaceable within the organization?
Jason Mackey
2:08
They have a lot of D right now and another in the minors, Ethan Prow, tearing it up. I like Olli and probably wouldn't trade him, but I would listen based on circumstance.

Do you see the penguins possibly getting a more  physical type of top 6 forward at the deadline?
Jason Mackey
2:10
I could see them getting someone who's a little more physical because they could use that style. But not someone exclusively to handle Wilson as was floated on NBCSN last night.

"I think Johnson has been fine on the third pair with Pettersson. Everyone wants to blame Johnson, but he's been on the ice for four five-on-five goals in the past nine games. Letang, Dumoulin, Maatta and Oleksiak have all been on for more."    They also have been on the ice a lot more and against much harder competition.  Pettersson-Johnson has been super sheltered.  There was one game where they only had one D zone start.
Jason Mackey
2:10
That's completely fair.

Please start blocking Brassard comments...too many lazy people ask the same questions instead of looking what has already been answered.
Jason Mackey
2:10
Yeah, Mike has a good idea. Not gonna push through any more repeats.

Why did the media make such a big deal about Dupius’ comments when the media makes those same comments all time time and Dupuis is pretty much just media now?
Jason Mackey
2:11
It only became a big story, in my opinion, when Sullivan reacted the way he did. That's the only time I wrote anything, then I called Dupuis to give him a chance to clarify. I can't speak for anyone else.

Why are people expecting Schultz to be the saviour of the defense when he was very not good at defense last year?
Jason Mackey
2:12
He did lead the team in plus/minus last year. It's not a perfect stat, but it's not nothing, either.

The dad's trip seems alot of fun.  Do you get to interact with the dad's when covering the team?
Jason Mackey
2:12
Some but not a ton. Only a couple that I know -- Aston-Reese's, Guentzel, Crosby -- but yeah, it does seem like they have a blast on those.

Do you think they have any interest in Bergland?  He was waived by BUF, and he might be a better 3C than Brassard.
Jason Mackey
2:13
Not that I've heard, no. But Rutherford does explore a lot of options.
Wilbury

Might this be the best time for GMJR to offload the high priced Rust?  I know, he's been on the scoresheet lately, all the more reason to move him while you can offload that cap hit.
Jason Mackey
2:13
Absolutely not. Not a chance.

Given the penguins’ third line over the last several years plays more like most teams second lines, is there really a big difference for Brassard playing on the penguins’ third line instead of another team’s second line?
Jason Mackey
2:15
In the quality of wingers, yes. And the ice time he gets.

Outside of attending games, what does your day look like? How much time do you spend doing research, writing, etc.?
Jason Mackey
2:16
I usually spend an hour every morning researching, then 10:30-2 reporting/writing ... maybe an afternoon nap on gamedays, then like 5-midnight or so back at the rink. ... Practice days are different. Honestly, pretty much every day is different with travel and everything. One of the perks of the hockey beat for me.

When is the trade deadline? Is it possible that GMJR doesn’t trades at all
Jason Mackey
2:16
It's possible but I wouldn't say likely. I think he'll do something before. It's usually around the end of February. I don't know an exact date off-hand.

What are your thoughts on grudges and doghouses:  do they have a place in sports (recall the accusations against Sully)?  Do members of the media hold grudges against certain players?
Jason Mackey
2:17
I don't think media does, no. And if they did, what would it matter? I think coaches have thoughts on players. I wouldn't call it a doghouse, but it's their prerogative to determine when a guy can help and when he can't.

Did you get the sense Sprong was disliked by the team at the time of the trade? I remember the Uber story from his rookie year, but was wondering if he matured/teammates warmed up to him?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Not at all. Teammates were fine with him. The trade had nothing to do with that.

Are you still amazed that the Pens gave Johnson a five year term?  Who did they think they were bidding against?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Detroit and Anaheim was my understanding.

Do you think the players are update with Dupois comments?  especially since he was just in town and treated like rolyalty
Jason Mackey
2:18
No, they aren't. They knew about them, but I don't think they thought he was sharing secrets. He was just making an observation.

"The contract drops over the next three ... down to $4.25 million in the final year. It would also have to be amended"

That's not how cap hits work.
Jason Mackey
2:18
Yes it is. St. Louis would have to take back money to make it work for the Penguins.

Jason, GMJR has made some good trades since they last won the cup (Oleksiak, Pettersson, etc). However he’s also made MORE trades that have been misses. Do you think this could have something to do with missing Botterill? I’m not questioning GMJR as a GM but since Botterill has been gone there’s been more misses than hits.
Jason Mackey
2:19
I can't say it's not but it's hard to say specifically that it is.
Seriously?

Perhaps use one of the many resources available to you Jason. Bozak’s AAV does not drop. https://www.capfriendly.com/players/tyler-bozak

Thank you. My mistake. I was looking at the wrong column. Again, I apologize. I was wrong here, working too fast.
