I have not. And you typically don't this time of year, especially not as they would relate to a precise player a team might take. A lot can (and will) happen between now and then.

With his recent demotion to the 4th line in Chicago, do you see GMJR making a call to Stan Bowman about Saad?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Maybe he checks, but I don't know how that works with the money. Saad makes, what, $6 million? Who goes out to do that? I think it's just too tough with the contracts they already have.

Would the Grateful Dead be remembered as fondly as they are today by Dead Heads like you if it weren't for JOHN PARRY BARLOW?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Absolutely not.

Cullen has been connected to the Penguins by four insiders/writers: You, Bob McKenzie, Elliote Friedman, and Micheal Russo. What percent of chance do you see Cullen coming back to PIT? Any moves other moves beside a Cullen trade?
Jason Mackey
2:03
Right now, nothing besides a Cullen trade that I'm hearing. More that the Penguins could stand pat on a third-line center.
Benny D
2:04
I know you won’t get any questions on centers but: Derek Ryan (CAR), Boone Jenner (CBJ)... either of these guys a possible fit?
Jason Mackey
2:04
I don't think so.
Kris
2:04
I know you are probably sick of talking about this but I love Matt Cullen. I miss Matt Cullen. I’d give up (well maybe not a full limb but maybe a finger?) to get him back. What has to happen to get him back? Would the Wild let him go?
Jason Mackey
2:04
Only if you gave up a finger.

Are the Pens in danger of losing a goalie in the Seattle expansion draft? If they feel like they are which one will they protect Murray or Jarry?
Jason Mackey
2:05
They would protect Murray. He's their No. 1 and has won two Stanley Cups. You don't get rid of that.
Erik
2:05
I could see Gustavsson being part of a deadline package, got to think he's at least 3-4 years away from seeing the NHL.  You?
Jason Mackey
2:05
I think that's fair, but Rutherford has said he doesn't want to trade any goalies. I believe him. Maybe I'm wrong. But his stock -- assuming they believe in him, which they should -- will only increase.
Benny D
2:05
Who will finish the season with the most points for the Pens: Kessel, Malkin, or Crosby?
Jason Mackey
2:06
I said Phil yesterday when I was on with Starkey, but I'm going to change it -- it's my chat, I reserve the right -- to Crosby.

Can you explain why Simon is playing with the big club while Sprong is in WBS?
Jason Mackey
2:06
They still want Sprong to develop. Work on his all-around game. Defense. Consistency. I think they're holding him to a higher standard than Simon.
Erik
2:06
Is there any speculation surrounding Derick Brassard? If I could pick one guy from the "available list" of potential trade options, it would be him.
Jason Mackey
2:07
There's speculation every week in this chat, but he makes $5 million. Who goes out to make room?
Erik
2:07
I've hard TSN report that OTT is interested in Jarry, potentially for JB Pageau, any truth?
Jason Mackey
2:07
I have not heard that, but I also can't really speak to what Ottawa wants.
Harold
2:07
Looks like the Pens have very few back-to-back games the rest of the season.  Do you think Murray plays most of the remaining games, with Jarry and DeSmith rotating between WBS and Pittsburgh to stay fresh?
Jason Mackey
2:08
Yep. And Sully will probably ride the hot hand.
CAfan
2:08
Not that it matters at all but it is laughable to me that some "power rankings" have the Pens as low as 14th.  Is it possible that others are under estimating this team?
Jason Mackey
2:08
Why are you reading that stuff? Has to be something better out there. Never understood "Power Rankings." In any sport.
Erik
2:08
Given the ages of the Pens' core ranging from (30-31), do you agree that they should continue to have an "all-in" approach this season?  The health is never guaranteed with this core, and this year, they all are presumably heathy and playing at a high level.
Jason Mackey
2:09
It does have an all-in approach. Every season is like that. The Penguins spend to the cap every year. But they're not going to do something stupid just because of some made-up thing.
Cindy
2:09
Jason, what’s going on with Simon? He was great with Sid for awhile but ends up being benched against VGK ( even tho Pens we’re down 2 forwards). Was he just a flash in the pan?
Jason Mackey
2:09
It was one game. He's a rookie. Cut the kid some slack. He wouldn't be the first rookie to have a bad game, I'm pretty sure. If he has three more, then we have a problem. But I'm willing to give him a chance to bounce back.

One name nobody mentions that i have thought could fill 4C and come pretty cheap is Desharnais on NYR. Good faceoffs, speed and decent hands.
Jason Mackey
2:10
Especially with them having a fire sale, I think you make an excellent point. Price is right. Like the player. Depends on the ask.
Martin
2:10
Will Mike Sullivan stop being so stubborn and give Reaves more than 6 minutes a game?
Jason Mackey
2:10
Agree with you there. If the guy's on your bench, play him. That's not a revolutionary concept, IMO.

Yes.

My dog used to chase people on a bike a lot. It got so bad, finally I had to take his bike away.
Jason Mackey
2:11
Good one, Bob.

Jason, I believe you mentioned in a previous article that the Pens aren't actively pursuing a 3rd line center as much as they are a 4th line center. I believe Sheahan is improving each game, and with a little more scoring touch, would be ideal for the position. What's your analysis on his play? Do you think he resigns here?
