Thank you for moderating these chats.  They are a lot of fun.  Will you continue the chats all summer long or take some time off?
Jason Mackey
3:29
I do hope to take some time off. We'll do a mix of both. But not every week, I can tell you that.

A talking head on the NHL network stated the most of the other series are very phys

Do you think we'll see a Bruno Sammartino tribute during the game tomorrow?
Jason Mackey
3:30
Yes, I think they'll do something.

How crazy was that hit on Couturier by Gudas?  I couldn't believe someone could be that careless, even for a Philthy player
Jason Mackey
3:30
I don't disagree with you. How can you not be pay attention? And it's freaky. It's almost like he meant to do it.

An NHL Network taking head stated the other series are very physical and that the Pens will have problems with that type of series.  Do you agree or does their speed keep the game from getting that physical?
Jason Mackey
3:32
I don't disagree, but I think the Penguins can avoid a lot of that by playing with the puck and making other teams chase them. I also think it's natural that playoff series are going to be physical. But you can't hit what you can't catch, would be my response.

Is Sidthegoat Ok?
Jason Mackey

I hope so.

What can you tell me about the NHL rule relative to hits late in games when one team is very much ahead of the other, like Reads hit on Brassard late in the 3rd, last night
Jason Mackey
3:33
I believe the rule only involves fighting, not penalties. Though to be fair, I don't have it memorized, and my brain is too fried at the moment to look it up.

Regarding Sheahan and an extension. Do you see them doing what they did with Schultz: Not qualify him, but still sign him to less of his contract now?
Jason Mackey
3:34
It depends on what he wants to do. That was some of Schultz's doing. I could see the Penguins doing, say, a three-year deal with Sheahan for a reasonable rate. If, of course, they agreed on a figure and that's what Sheahan wanted. My only point is that I think it makes sense to sign him and keep him around, and I think he likes it here.

Could you see the possibility of brassard being resigned at some point in the future? 3x$4million sounds good to me
Jason Mackey
3:34
I think that's a long way off. He hasn't played enough here to say one way or the other.

I think it’s a little harsh to blame Gudas. It’s on the coach who’s running the drill for Gudas. He didn’t warn Gudas, or try to stop him. You have an entire rink to work with, why would you run drills into each other?
Jason Mackey
3:34
Gudas is a grown man. He can't stop himself from skating, knee on knee, into a teammate? C'mon. He's not a toddler.

Agree with you about enjoying the CBJ-WAS series.  The speed and intensity of that series has been wild.  Could either team survive 7 games of that and have anything left in the tank?
Jason Mackey
3:35
I don't think so. And, hey, your prize is getting to play the Penguins! Good luck with that.
Jeff

Save the best for last.  Buy Jason a drink.  You've earned it.   THanks for the chat!
Jason Mackey
3:35
Ha. Thanks, Jeff. Appreciate that. Will try tonight.

The defense looks good so far, do you think they can keep up?
Jason Mackey
3:36
Actually I do. Maybe that makes me insane, I don't know. And I get that teams will be better offensively than the Flyers. But the Penguins have been very responsible with the puck, own-zone stuff has been solid, Murray, PK ... it's a decent recipe. And I think it's a sustainable one.
Jon

Thank you, Todd, for confirming what Jason has confirmed 100 times already
Jason Mackey

It's all good, Jon. Smile pal. It's a game.

I think that the "draft" given to the LVGN was the worst expansion "draft" in the history of the NHL. No expansion team should be given the grand total of talent that was handed to them. Your thoughts?
Jason Mackey
3:38
It's kinda hard to argue with the story it has produced, no? I like it. I think it has created a really interesting discussion with Seattle set to come into the league. If you're paying a lot, you should get a lot, right? And the NHL is capitalizing on the money.

Sheary won’t be here next year. They have not traded Spong yet - they won’t do it now.
Jason Mackey

We shall see. Plenty of intrigue this summer.

Jason, In my opinion, the Pens drop off after Matt Hunwick in regards to their D depth is steep. Do you think they will load up on defenseman in the draft? It seems like not too long ago we had defenseman oozing out of our farm league
Jason Mackey
3:40
I think they will address defensive depth in the draft, yes. But they do have some guys in the pipeline. They like Zach Lauzon a lot. He was their second-round pick last summer. But, yes, I think their top pick this year will be a defenseman.

Isn't Hagelin a free agent after this season?
Jason Mackey

After next.

Weaker than 16 (goaltending and center depth).   Weaker and hann17 (goaltending, center and defense).

Thanks, Jon.

The Flyers looked like they absolutely rolled over and died last night. Have you had a chance to be around the Flyers team during this playoff series? (I'm not sure exactly how your job works) My point being, are they as dead and low on morale in person as they seem on the ice?
