Grateful Dead rules! While I despise the reasoning for Hainsey being in the lineup, I can almost excuse it because "veteran experience" is something even the most elite coaches fall back on, despite the car crash they see on the ice. What's more frustrating to me is why Sully refuses to put Rust back with 71, a duo that worked last spring as well as in round one this year. The 71/72 duo has never worked and doesn't pass any statistical or visual smell test. Considering everyone else that's been tried on Malkin's left (Kunitz, 4th liner Wilson) his refusal to go back to Rust seems deliberate at this point. My long winded question is simply this: What the hell is the deal?

I don't disagree with you, Billy. I don't like 71-72, but I think you're safe; looks like it will be 71-81. I've said all along, I'd go 59-87-43 ... 17-71-81 ... 14/62-13-72 ... 14/62-7-34/23. Not deviating from that now.

Hello Jason, As the series shifts back to Pittsburgh, What needs to really happen in order for the Pens to bounce back tonight? As Murray gets the call to start, how will the team respond to the adversity over the past two games?
Jason Mackey
1:20
I think the Penguins defensemen need to be a lot better, in their own zone especially. Breakouts have to be cleaner. Clear the 30-shot mark. Get a power play goal. Murray has to be better with his glove. A goal from Phil Kessel would help. ... And, yes, I think Murray responds with arguably his best game of the playoffs thus far.

Is it possible that Fleury will not waive his no trade so he can't go to Vegas. If he refuses to go to Vegas does that force our hand with leaving Murray open?
Jason Mackey
1:22
No. There are 12 teams the Penguins can't trade Fleury to. They can also ask him to waive it for one of the 12. Given how he's not starting now and lost his starting job in the Ottawa series -- you can debate the fairness on that decision -- I think he just wants to go somewhere where he can play, and the team has a chance to win. Checking both of those boxes in the offseason shouldn't be terribly difficult.

I am wondering when the last time a cup final went seven games with the home team winning every game. I believe that will have to be the Pens cup winning formula. What do you think?
Jason Mackey
1:22
It's a good research thing. I'll write it down and check today, but I'm not going to fall down that rabbit hole now. Good question, though.

It's not my birthday.

Can you imagine a scenario that Fleury would start game six if the Pens lost tonight?
Jason Mackey
1:23
I don't. If they win, non-issue. If they lose, it's too much out of desperation. I think tonight is the time to make that move.

What do the Pens have to do to not have repeats of games 3&4.
Jason Mackey
1:24
My top three would be better breakouts from defensemen, an effective power play and a better game from Matt Murray.

When the Brady and Patriots were going for SB #5 all people could talk about was how great it would be for him to pass Montana and Bradshaw and become the goat. Sidney Crosby has a chance to do something similar and the Penguins have a chance at becoming the first NHL team to repeat in size 1998, WOW what a story, yet. Everybody wants to talk about the Predators crowd, the catfish, the country music singers etc... Where's the respect?? What makes them different than the Patriots? The Blackhawks have won 3 cups in the last 8 years and nobody hates them?? I mean for crying out loud, Brady cheated! What people don't like Crosby because he used to whine? What's the deal?
Jason Mackey
1:25
I don't understand why people accuse Crosby of being a whiner now. He probably said too much early in his career, and he's had to carry that label around -- unfairly -- ever since.

Fans definitely see which goalie has played best in this run. If we lose cup it will hurt attendance next year w Murray in net. Thoughts
Jason Mackey
1:26
I don't think it will hurt attendance. At least to the point of being noticeable. Will fans like Murray less? Maybe. Hard to say now. The guy won a Stanley Cup and was a huge reason they got there the next year -- assuming, like you said, a loss in this series. Not really the reason to turn on a guy, no?
Jason Mackey

That's incredible. Thanks for sharing!

Is it me are is Kessel a big problem on the powerplay. He doesnt shoot, and telegraphs every pass he makes.. Why does Sully stay with him?
Jason Mackey
1:27
Because he's an elite offensive player with one of the top five shots in the league? I think Kessel is a huge asset on the PP. I just think he needs to shoot the puck more.
Jordan

Ron Hainsey. Why is he still in the lineup?
Jason Mackey
1:28
I would rather have Ron Hainsey than Chad Ruhwedel or Mark Streit at this point.

Did you confirm that Fisher is using gel on his stick AND that NSH is doctoring the ice?
Jason Mackey

I could not confirm.

Some. Not if I'm taking vacation. But if I'm working and there are things that are topical -- around, say, free agency, the draft or development camp -- then sure.

can sam werner get his own chat
Jason Mackey

We will work with Sam this summer on doing that. When Dave transitions to Penn State, I think Sam will take that over.
Chris

Do you give Murray a short leash, or ride him through no matter what?
Jason Mackey
1:29
Define short. If he allows three in the first, I'm yanking him.

IF the pens lose this game do you think MAF will start game 7 or will Sully make it Murrays series to win or lose?
Jason Mackey
1:30
They'd have to win Game 6 first, and I have my doubts. I think Sully will ride out Murray, honestly. Starting Murray in the Ottawa series and again now, Murray's his guy. Own that. Don't turn to Fleury out of desperation. It's not a two-goalie system. It's not an even-split. Let's just call a spade a spade at this point.

Do you purchase your chat room participants? why are your questions so much better than the ones I get. I had to close my last chat after 30 mins.

Somehow i don't think this is actually Dave.
