Jason Mackey's Penguins chat: 6.1.17

Probably injury only. I don't think Sullivan would make a sentimental move like that. Plus, you don't know for sure that he's gone. Just that it's likely. I think an injury is the only way Fleury plays. Murray is locked in, and I don't see that changing.

Pittsburgh is great....What is the record attendance for the crowd watchin the big screen....any idea?
Jason Mackey
2:04
No clue.

Same.

So being that the Pens are in two straight finals, are we to assume that next year will be the start of one and dones in the playoffs
Jason Mackey
2:05
Ha. A la Chicago, huh? I don't think so. Penguins are actually in a better cap situation than the Blackhawks. They have young guys out-playing their contracts. That's so huge.
Michael

I don't know a lot about the expansion draft so I would like to know if a team can lose more than one player?
Jason Mackey
2:05
Nope. Just one player for each team.

Any chance Primanti's makes a sandwich of he potential Penguin Conn Smythe winner?
Jason Mackey
2:06
I like Primanti's. I hope they stop thrusting themselves so overtly into Pittsburgh sports in the sake of easy advertising. Just make good product. We know.

Do you think they might scratch Maatta for a game to help him get his game back? It seemed to work for Sheary.
Jason Mackey
2:07
I don't think. Maatta played poorly last night, but I think benching him would be an overreacting. Plus, who do you put in instead? Streit? Ruhwedel? No thanks. I'd live with Olli over those two.

It seems there's a lot over-confident Pens fans that this series is in the bag...I still think this goes seven as it's very hard to win in Nashville. Thoughts?
Jason Mackey
2:08
I think the whole win-in-Nashville thing is a bit overblown. They don't drop the puck with the home team ahead, 3-0. Penguins have been in their fair share of raucous environments. Remember Game 7 in Washington? People are running with the they're-gonna-win-it narrative because 45 of 50 teams all-time that have jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup final have gone on to win the series.

The commentators made a reference to a "more meat and potatoes power play". I'd like to see Geno getting set up for slappers with Sid on garbage patrol. They seem to have our number for Tic Tac Toe stuff, do you see this as our opening gambit on the PP?
Jason Mackey
2:09
Anything that involves Crosby close to the net, I'm all for it.

Jason, why the inconsistency this year? Not trying to take anything away from them just curious why we have these swings from being completely dominating to other games totally flat.
Jason Mackey
2:10
The other team is trying to win, too. This is, believe it or not, relatively normal. I know it's easy to classify these guys as robots, but that's not always how this works.

I like women. Not a fan of your wife, however.
Jason Mackey

I'm a fan of my wife. A big fan, actually.

What do you think about trading Fleury to Vegas for insurance that they will take Hagelin in expansion draft? It would be almost 10 million cap space and this will give us a opportunity to sign Bonino, Dumoulin and Schultz... BTW. There is some rumors about this trade to Vegas. Did you hear something?
Jason Mackey
2:11
I have not heard anything. It does make sense. On both fronts. And clearing that money would allow for those three signings, I agree. The ultimate decision here is going to be whether Fleury will agree to play in Vegas. I know he doesn't want to go to a bad team. I don't know whether he has an opinion either way on Vegas.

I thought this was a chat. I am just watching a conversation between you and Dwayne.
Jason Mackey

It's a chat. I go through and answer every question in the order it was received.

What is your favorite Mike Fisher song?
Jason Mackey

I don't have one.

If Russell were bumped up to the third line, I think that would create problems. Rockwell and Haberson could benefit from extra scoring.
Jason Mackey
2:12
I have no idea what this means.

Of all the Russian sports journalists, who is your favorite. Mine is Dmitry Guberniev
Jason Mackey

I don't have one, sorry. I don't know enough to offer an informed opinion.

Great chat as always. Regardless of what happens in this year's finals, how do you see the team next year looking? Who will be gone do you think? Who comes up permanently from the Baby Pens?
Jason Mackey
2:14
I think Daley, Bonino, Hainsey and Kunitz/Cullen will be gone. One of Kunitz/Cullen will be back. If it's Cullen gone, I think he retires. If it's Kunitz, I think it's because someone else paid him. I like Sprong and Aston-Reese to compete for spots.

A couple of time during the Ottawa series the camera picked up on Phil Kessel eating chips on the bench, is that sort of thing common?
Jason Mackey
2:14
C'mon. No it didn't.
dave

I think Malkin lead the playoffs in scoring and also leads in penalty minutes. Do you think Sullivan is ok with that?
Jason Mackey
2:15
I think he's probably like less. But you also have to remember, that number is high because the Penguins have played a lot of games, too. But, yes, I think they'd like Malkin to take fewer penalties.

Why is the officiating so bad in this year's playoffs?
Jason Mackey

Good question.

Sportsnet posted a video earlier of Friedman saying he wanted to pick both Fleury and Murray for Conn Smythe if the Pens win. Assuming that's possible, do you A) have a vote for the CS and B) would you do it?
