I don't think immediately, K-Man. I didn't see the struggles coming either. That said, it's just a terrible storm right now. Everyone is struggling at the same time. I do think they will snap out of it. But they need to change some things first. (More aggressive)
Jake

Jason, I can't believe we are about to get the broom treatment from the stinking NYR.  And sorry about that first round pick that won't be forthcoming.
Jason Mackey
12:53
Little shocked by this, Jake. Pick it up, man. You guys are better than what you're showing.

I’m as excited as anybody for Paul Skenes debut, but given the state of the team, wouldn’t a power hitter have been a better option in the draft?  I’d rather have someone playing 140 games a year and drawing fans to the park 70 days a season, than a pitcher who will throw a home game maybe 15 times a year, from a business perspective. This team needs hitting and an impact difference maker in the lineup desperately.
Jason Mackey
12:54
No [bleeping] way. You draft Skenes because they'll never pay for this kind of pitching. You can't take both. I have no issue with them taking Skenes whatsoever. How about the guys on the team now performing better than they have?
Hype Machine
12:54
The Skenes hype is all well and good but this team is still utterly devoid of offensive talent both at the Major League and Minor level. He's gonna get awfully tired of 1-0 losses. And it's not gonna improve while he is here. He's going to have a very disappointing Pirate career along the lines of Kris Benson
Jason Mackey
12:55
I don't think they're devoid of talent. I think they're performing poorly. And I think it's fair to question the approach. But I don't look at their major league lineup and say it's "utterly devoid of offensive talent."

Jason, why have you been so reluctant to give me my due props?  I've been better than you thought possible, admit it.  Why guys can't catch up to my 90 mph heat is a mystery that will hopefully go unsolved.....
Jason Mackey
12:56
I don't see how I've been reluctant. You've been excellent. I was dead wrong. I'll wear it.
Najee

Jason, was Zeise out of line with his little nugget about me asking out on the 5th year option?  I mean, I do ooze the West Coast vibe, and I have said some weird things about upper management, but still.....
Jason Mackey
12:56
I'm not close enough to the situation to say either way. I also don't know what Zeise was told, so I'm going to stay out of it.
He Sucks

How long do we have to endure Jack Suwhiffski ? Can't hit. Can't field all that well. What does he do ?
Jason Mackey
12:57
I'm fine riding it out with Jack. I know it's frustrating, but he's hardly the only one struggling. They need to have his back the same as Cruz. For guys on expiring contracts, I think it's a little different.

if they put Roansy on waivers, can't they pull him back if someone wants to claim and work a trade with that team for a minor leaguer - not that it be much of a return.  or am I conflating DFA with the trade deadline waiver claim process?
Jason Mackey
12:58
No, they could -- I believe. Even if they worked out a trade for a prospect or cash, it wouldn't be much.
Warren
12:58
Jason, ever get into any Government Mule? I would think it is kind of up your alley.
Jason Mackey
12:58
I've tried. Hasn't done much for me. Listening to Dead & Company from Oracle Park 7/16/23 at the moment. It's incredible.

"Would be hard to win one in the past." Actually Tomlin did win one in the past
Jason Mackey
12:59
The question was this: "In the future who will be the first to win a Super Bowl?" ... All good natured. Just joking around. But can't ask, "In the past who will be the first to win a Super Bowl?"

Skenes seems to have very high character.  Many baseball players do.  Same with hockey.  Football seems to have the highest level of immature and low character players.  Any idea why?  Is there something about the sport itself or the type of players needed that attracts this kind of nonsense?
Jason Mackey
1:01
I don't know. I've been around 'em all. There are knuckleheads in all of them. There are great people in all of them. I think it just comes out a little different. I think baseball has the widest range of personalities and emotions: guys who will do anything for you, just awesome people ... then others who might wanna fight you if you write or say something they don't like. There's more openness and a back-and-forth with what the media does in baseball, probably because it's every day.
OC's Ankle

Jason, the company line not so long ago was that I'm completely healed, like brand new, nothing to see here.  Now, I'm hearing talk on diligence and life-long maintenance.  What gives?
Jason Mackey
1:02
Oneil Cruz is a player who just had serious ankle surgery. Would imagine there's post-injury concern for most, if not all, in his situation.
Money Man
1:02
How long is Skenes' contract ?
Jason Mackey
1:03
Same as everyone his age: six years of club control ... as of now, 3 at team-set salaries, 3 of arbitration. Should he stick, he'll be Super 2 and get 4 years of arb instead of 3. But still 6 years until he's a free agent.
Omar

Jason, have I been shopping way too long at the Dollar General and Five Below for that WR room?  I've signed five guys who have a total of 81 career catches.
Jason Mackey

It's also May 10. You got time.

Sully should watch his mouth bad mouthing Jersey. Pittsburgh isn't exactly the Garden of Eden itself.

Did Sullivan speak on this? Have not seen that if he did.

Jason, how the MLB brass can watch one freaking game and not decide it's time for us is beyond belief.  Ole' Cutch may not have been wise to bring it up while hitting below Mendoza, but his point is spot on, as they say. Your thoughts, if any?
Jason Mackey
1:04
A challenge system should've been implemented yesterday. It's terrible. I also don't blame the umps. They're being asked to do too much. The challenge system rocks. Why they haven't gone to it boggles the mind.

Jason, in earlier chats, you've claimed that the better half loved your 'stache and you would bring one in to greet Paul.  Now you are totally changing your tune, thus jeopardizing your facial hair street cred.  Just saying.
Jason Mackey

My better half soured on it. I also look like a goober (even more than usual).

Jason, do you think TVC15 is a Bowie fan?
Jason Mackey

I have no idea.

I have been left to wonder that if the Pirates had Milwaukee's offense, we would be, perhaps, the top team in the league.   Who, beyond Johnson, do you see as the most likely offensive player to make a difference the soonest?
Jason Mackey
1:05
I'd rather see improvement from those already on the roster.

Can you name a few of the baseball players that you have had great interactions with?  Maybe a good story?  It's always nice to hear the positive stories about athletes!
Jason Mackey
1:08
Umm ... darn near every one of them. Ha. Baseball players are my favorite. I think everyone knows that. ... The best ones: Keller, Bednar, Cutch -- this is in no particular order, just guys who always go above and beyond and past ones as well -- Oviedo, Smith-Njigba, Brault, Taillon, Musgrove, Reynolds (doesn't say much, but when he does ... ), Priester, Skenes, Stallings, Tucker, Stratton (both of 'em) ... shoot, there are so many. I'm probably leaving several out.

Not Mike Sullivan himself. The troll that wrote in early in the chat calling himself "Sully"
