Cutch

Jason, sometimes I do not run hard on fer sure outs because I'm afraid of blowing out the old man's Achillies. Just saying.
Jason Mackey
12:49
I'd rather have Cutch healthy for the duration of the season than get bent out of shape over running out routine outs.

Who is the highest rated prospect you could see the Pirates giving up in a trade?
Jason Mackey
12:51
I don't think there's a cap on that. Now, there are obviously degrees of likely. Chandler < Michael Kennedy. But I don't see them as refusing to talk about anyone. (That said, dealing Braxton Ashcraft -- a young guy who can make the MLB club better, doesn't make sense.)

Happy Friday Jason. How much longer do we have to see Michael A. Taylor in a Bucs uniform? We all knew he wasnt a great hitter but he's shown pop before. The final straw for me was Tuesday night. Throws to wrong base and allows the second rounder to 2nd and then drops a ball that he had in his glove. I think they've given him plenty of time. Let's see Gorski, Bae, or Palacios.
Jason Mackey
12:51
I think they will ride it out longer, simply because of the defense. I'm not sure that's wrong.

Any chance the Penguins ask Geno to move to wing and they trade for or sign a second line center ?
Jason Mackey
12:52
I hope not. I don't think Geno center vs. wing is the issue. To me, it was puck support and his flanks. Look at how much better he looked with Bunting. They need that. May be fine with him between Rakell and Bunting, honestly.

Jason, a theoretical question: Does a ball ever truly land in the river on the fly if a tree blocks the view and thus the splash landing cannot be independently verified?
Jason Mackey
12:53
I think it does, yes. One can assume. (How much time did you spend thinking of this question? Hopefully not long.)

Hey Jason any idea what day skenes is pitching next after tomorrow since jones is taking a week off? Trying to buy tickets in advance. Thanks
Jason Mackey
12:53
Nobody can predict that far in advance. Not sure they know.

What do you think makes the Pirates stronger? Ortiz as the #5 and Perez in the pen or Perez as the #5 and Ortiz in the pen?
Jason Mackey
12:53
Both in the starting rotation. Rest Skenes & Jones.

Any chance Delay sticks as backup to Bart or are we stuck with Grandal so Delay can be depth at Indy? Delay isnt flashing but gets job done. Grandal is bad in all facets of the game.
Jason Mackey
12:54
Yeah, I could see them keeping Delay around. He's a better defensive catcher than Grandal. Guys love throwing to him. Can't get rid of him right now, IMO.

Jason, please, please please no more middle infielders in the upcoming draft. Who is your top two picks for the Bucs?
Jason Mackey
12:54
Kurtz, one. Tibbs, two. That's assuming Wetherholt is gone.

Hello Jason! Brian Kenny on MLB Network asked a question to GMBC about extending Jones and Skenes. I’m torn by his response. He said he wants to wait for them to grow and revisit the talks later. Knowing ownership, should this be worrisome or maybe it could lead to what Reynolds, Keller and Hayes received? Go Bucs!
Jason Mackey
12:55
What he should have said is, "There's no way in [heck] we're gonna pay that, but we'll enjoy it while we got 'em!" Can't say that, though, so gotta get creative.

Jason, any word if I'm taking my off-season a little more Tanger and/or Sid-like, or did I disappear for global points unknown like most off-seasons?
Jason Mackey
12:56
Have not heard much about your offseason, G. But I hope you soaked up some family time and figured out a way to get your folks to Pittsburgh for all 82. The city needs it.

Hey Jason, do you think the Pirates will give Luis Ortiz more opportunities as a true starter? Or do you think they will have him be more flexible between a true start/following the opener type of role now that Perez is back?
Jason Mackey
12:56
I do. I think they really liked what they saw the other night. They should have. They could stand to go to six. Having Ortiz + Perez ... and spacing out Skenes & Jones would not be the worst thing.

If you had $25M to spend before the trade deadline who do you bring in?
Jason Mackey
12:57
You're telling me to sign free agents now? Odd time to do it. I'd rather operate with prospect capital.
Riddle Me This
12:57
Hi Jason, can you tell me why a WVU coaches show is on the local air and not a  Pitt coaches show?  I think Pitt is missing the boat on this, especially in terms of recruiting and promoting the program.  I hope Heather sees or hears about this.  Thank you.
Jason Mackey
12:57
I don't know enough about Pitt/SportsNet Pittsburgh stuff to provide that answer. Sorry.

12:57
Jason, you just used "Matt Gorski" as a verb. Probably best left as a one-time literary option.
Jason Mackey
12:58
I did. There's a huge insistence that Matt Gorski is the answer. He might be. But that's not a sure thing.

How do the options to minors in MLB work? Is it every time they are sent down, that costs 1 option, or is it unlimited call ups and send downs to the minors per year at a cost of 1 option?
Jason Mackey
12:59
Short answer: no. If a guy has options, it means he's optionable for the year. As for who has how many, read this. It's better than anything I could type out: https://www.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/minor-league-options

Is there one player the Pirates have made multiple calls about? It’s clear they are targeting outfield help, but is there a specific player or players they have consistently checked in on?
Jason Mackey
12:59
I don't know the answer to that. Those are private discussions that almost never get out, especially before a deal is made.
Tyler
12:59
Could you see the pirates potentially swapping some of their young pitching talent (Ashcraft, Solometo, Harrington) for a young bat? Similar to the Andrew Cashner for Anthony Rizzo trade the Cubs/Padres made about 15 years ago?
Jason Mackey
1:00
I would be surprised to see them do that. The Pirates covet young pitching. They should. They need to. It's easier to add a bat down the line. Now, would they trade Solo or Harrington? Maybe. Not saying they won't. But those deals are much harder to come together for a team like that Pirates.

Jason, right now to win a 7th game of the Series, a peak G Cole, or a current Skenes?
Jason Mackey
1:02
The logical answer is Cole. As incredible as Skenes' eight starts have been, it has still only been eight starts. That's also never a decision that would actually happen.
