You'd have to convince the Braves of that, though

as a jays fan i am sad about tulo :(
Jeff Sullivan
10:40
It was a strange feeling to be on for an MLB Now segment the other day, sitting directly to the right of Dan O'Dowd, who signed Tulowitzki to that contract
If it makes you feel any better, Tulowitzki will be able to find a more suitable opportunity now. He wasn't going to start for Toronto

Where does Cleveland play Jake Bauers?
Jeff Sullivan
10:41
I think he'll basically split time between 1B and corner outfield, and Alonso will be gone
brian
10:42
Do you think the Cubs have enough as it is?  Even if 3 guys regress to being good, especially KB, would they be the favorites?
Jeff Sullivan
10:43
The Cubs are strong. I still don't love their limited pitching depth, but right now I'd pick them as a slight NLC favorite
We'll see how much more the Cardinals do
HugoZ
10:45
Would Joey Gallo be an adequate replacement for Markakis?
Jeff Sullivan
10:45
He'd be fine, but I don't know if he's an Atlanta type of player, and I don't know how motivated the Rangers are to trade him. Michael Brantley feels obvious

10:46
Thoughts on the Indians trade and how the rest of their off season plays out? Do they still trade a pitcher?
Jeff Sullivan
10:47
I think they're less likely to trade a pitcher than they used to be, but I'm still waiting for it to happen. Yesterday made them a little bit better, but they can still turn a 2- or 3-year player into several years of team control by landing a prospect haul
Alonso will get dumped somewhere. And they remain a great trade fit with the Dodgers
Kristen
10:48
Profar to SD to play 3rd seems like a no-brainer.  How much trade value does he have with just 2 years of control left?
Jeff Sullivan
10:48
Limited. His trade value is positive for sure, but my guess is that he's a backup plan, and that the Padres are aiming higher
Barry Bonds vs Harold Baines

Whose more likely to win the NL CY next year, Kershaw of Buehler?
Jeff Sullivan
10:50
Kershaw
Barely

I kinda think now is a good time for the Reds to give Winker a contract extension offer. What do you think?
Jeff Sullivan
10:52
Never a bad idea for a team to try to lock up a potential core young player. I have no idea how receptive Winker might be to the prospect, and the Reds might choose to wait to see how Winker bounces back from surgery, but there's so much offensive upside in a guy who had more walks than strikeouts. Good time to arrange a long-term commitment

Did the ears of Portland perk up when the Rays made their stadium announcement?
Jeff Sullivan
10:52
I don't know, because I was in Las Vegas
10:53
The Rays moving across the continent is now a little bit more likely than before

It seems unconscionable for the Royals to lose Luciano. How did they not factor his Rule 5 status they traded for him? Granted, its somewhat insignificant, but certainly seems like glaring gaffe. So many questions
Jeff Sullivan
10:56
The Royals, of course, were aware that Luciano was eligible to be picked. I just assume they figured no one would choose an 18-year-old who's topped out in the Pioneer League
10:57
Pretty good chance Luciano ends up back with the Royals. Now, did the Royals know about his contract situation at the time of the trade? I don't know that. I don't have all the information. But I could stand to have more before I consider it a huge mistake

How is the mariners "rebuild" going from your perspective? What grade would you give it?
Jeff Sullivan
10:59
C+. Maybe a B-. Probably a C+. I'm lower on Sheffield than they are, but I like Swanson quite a bit. Going to be fun to monitor his 2019 progress
11:00
I know the Segura trade didn't net a whole bunch, but that's more the market's fault than the fault of the Mariners, and Crawford isn't a bad player
Dave
11:00
Robbie Ray to the Brewers seems like a good fit
Jeff Sullivan
11:01
Brewers are running out of prospects they'd be willing to trade, and that would have real value
KD

Yandy Diaz...I have to say that I really don't get all of the excitement over him. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think he will live up to the hype people are placing on him.       NOTE:  I asked Alexa yesterday if Die Hard was a Christmas movie and she confirmed that it was.
Jeff Sullivan
11:02
Diaz is fundamentally a player-development project. Fantastic suite of tools, but he's an adjustment away from being a great hitter. You can't teach his eye, though, nor can you teach his contact quality. Bauers doesn't hit the ball like Diaz does. He just has a traditionally more pleasing swing to look at
11:03
I think the Bauers skillset is easier to find. Hardly any kind of guarantee Diaz reaches or approaches his ceiling, but players like that are seldom available after they make the leap
Jake Bauers
11:03
Did the Rays make a mistake trading me?
Jeff Sullivan
11:04
According to the Indians, yes. According to the Rays, no
JC
11:04
How about Jason Vosler at 3B for the Pads since he didn't go in the Rule 5?
Jeff Sullivan
11:05
They're going to want a true regular
Eduardo
11:05
Do you still believe that Ketel Marte has that extra gear? I think he had too many conflicting coaches (Van Scoyoc and Magadan) in his ear last season. Intrigued by the CF possibility too...
