Have you ever scouted in Japan? If so, what was your experience like? Did you end up at Super Potato?
Kevin Goldstein
12:16
Yes; Amazing; Of course.

When was the decision made to go over the IFA pool bonus in the old system? Was that something organizations plan years in advanced, what kind of analysis went into that decision?
Kevin Goldstein
12:18
I was more of an in-the-year decision. You'd realize you are in a position to actually get some players that might put you over and you do it. The loophole was (in the old system) that once you went over, there really was no reason not to go WAY over.

Tyler Stephenson’s O Swing %, Z Contact %, Hard Hit %, among other metrics make me think this guy is on the brink of a major breakout. Is he the next C with serious offensive upside?
Kevin Goldstein
12:19
Not ready for an all caps YES or anything, but it's in the right direction and worth considering.

Joey Gallo's power went kaboom....anything to worry about? Hard to imagine a guy like him losing the long ball.
Kevin Goldstein
12:20
He's only lost a tick of power. What's happening is he's pounding the ball into the ground and not getting fly balls. It's concerning.

Is Nico Hoerner more or less an ideal version of Nick Madrigal, or vice versa?
Kevin Goldstein
12:21
Very different players.

12:22
Which minor league roster, as a whole, interests you most to watch in these first couple of months?
Kevin Goldstein
12:22
It's not a roster as much as it's much of the 2019 draft class finally getting going after a lost 2020.

Obviously nobody expects a 21 year old to have sterling command, but how concerned would/should a team be with what appears to be bad control numbers (4.1 BB/9) by Jack Leiter?  Would they likely just assume the control will improve and/or the strikeouts will make it worth it?
Kevin Goldstein
12:23
It should improve. It's not a nightmare starting point or anything. He's not going to suddenly be Mr. Precision, but it's not some giant issue.
5 Run Homer

I don’t have a question I’m just a Blue Jays fan enjoying MVP candidate Vlad Jr
Kevin Goldstein
12:24
Non Blue Jays fans are enjoying it as well. At-bats are reaching must-watch level.

What are your thoughts on Dusty's handling of the Houston rotation. MCCullers 111 pitches in a 6-0 game (would finish 9-0), Javier career high 107 in April. I know the pen isn't great and the point is to win the games but are the Mark Prior flashbacks unwarranted?
Kevin Goldstein
12:25
They both pitched really well and didn't have high stress innings so I'm not really concerned. Pitch counts aren't everything. 102 pitches over five innings is rougher than 102 over seven.

12:26
What's your assessment of Brandon Lowe's slow start?
Kevin Goldstein
12:26
Even when good, the K rate was highly concerning....

Do you think there are some players who just can't quite handle the pressure of being asked to perform in front of 40,000 fans and a bunch of television cameras, and who under-perform their MiLB stats or scouting report as a result? I'm fairly certain that whatever I'm most talented at, I'd wilt if asked to do it on national television.
Kevin Goldstein
12:26
Yes.

Should cards fans be worried about their big boppers in Arenado and Goldy?
Kevin Goldstein
12:28
I'm not prediction some kind of explosion from them, but I think a better way to look at it is that they're right in the thick of things and they haven't really gotten going offensively yet.

Following up your “not very long response,” when do you think Kelenic sees the majors?
Kevin Goldstein
12:29
I don't know. Anyone not with the Mariners who says they know is being dishonest. Let's see how he does now that we have games starting up.

Favorite not great player? Jon Jay is mine.
Kevin Goldstein
12:30
Chris Carter.

What's the upside of Hunter Brown, frontline starter?
Kevin Goldstein
12:30
That's the upside if the command comes. The raw stuff is VERY HIGH quality.

12:31
if you were in the Rays front office and it was your call, when do you think you'd call up Franco?
Kevin Goldstein
12:31
It's hard to say. Feels like they'll look to move Adames this year to make room for him.

Which prep SS would you take an #3 for the Tigers?  Or would you take Rocker if he was available?
Kevin Goldstein
12:32
I'd lake Lawler if he was there.

Any explanation for the rash of injuries across the league so far?
Kevin Goldstein
12:32
2020 . . .

12:32
Considering Lindor's struggles and Tatis' early season injury scare, will that affect the market for the other young, soon-to-be free agent shortstops like Story?
Kevin Goldstein
12:32
Unlikely.

Will the current path to the lead job in MLB front offices continue to go thru the Ivy League and Commissioner's office? I know Chris Young played but he also followed that path (Sam Fuld did not go thru Commissioner's office but still is highly educated - Stanford/parents are professors at Dartmouth).
Kevin Goldstein

A. Great user name, I expect a question from Rod Strickland next. B. Yes, it's going to continue that way.
