I don't have anyone to hype just let. Ping me again in about a month. I should have plenty of names then.
1:47
My one juicy piece of intel is the Rayne Doncon hype is overdone
High bust risk and the tools aren't as flashy as the public domain reports.
Still could turn out to be a cool player though

Thank you for doing this, what is your approach to drafting with a league with Holds as a category?
Brad Johnson
1:48
I put extra effort into landing a few top, high-volume SP so I can dedicate extra space to regularly using 3 CL and 5 setup men.
1:49
For that sort of format, I might prioritize Sandy Alcantara over Jacob deGrom for instance.

Looks like the Guardians are shutting down SP Espino for eight weeks.  He has a tear in his pitching shoulder. The same shoulder that put him on the shelf last season. Do you think he is still worth keeping around for dynasty purposes?
Brad Johnson
1:50
It depends on your league. The kinds I play will have him rostered. But shallower dynasties can safely pivot to healthier options.
By shallower, I mean the kinds of league that keep the top 25 prospects or so.
It's cold up here

Will Sonny Gray stay healthy and good this year? Or is he too much of an age–health risk in the Frozen North?
Brad Johnson
1:52
I'm seeking more intel about Gray. For now, I'm half-avoiding him just based on past inconsistency. I'd take him at his 220 ADP under the right conditions. I shoot for volatility when I need to fix something.
Getting Old
1:52
I enjoyed your email re scripting your draft.  Thanks! I noticed that you called 27-year old Yoan Mocada an "old rebound candidate".  I know he's already played 6 full seasons and had his "breakout" way back in juiced ball 2019, but should we really consider him old?  Or could he actually just be entering his prime years?
Brad Johnson
1:52
Ha!
It's a fair point - he's not technically old.
1:53
He certainly moves like he's starting to get old, but I really just meant "established veteran"
1:54
I'll take it back if I see him in the BSOHL, but I foresee more of a Jean Segura-ish tail to his career. As in useful core performer.

Why is the Mets owner vilified and the Padres owner is not? The Mets had 12 free agents. They did a decent job getting value for the money they spent.  The one exception was having to overpay Nimmo...yet it made sense.  What do you think will come out of the ethics meeting the commissioner has planned?  Seems the other billionaires are getting antsy!
Brad Johnson

This is outside of my fantasy purview. I think the gripe with Cohen is mostly a matter of PR.
1:56
And, again, this is only my opinion, that's fully by design. San Diego is a chill place. The NYC sports scene responds best to overwhelming personas. And leading the also-ran Mets only doubles the need for showmanship.

NL 5x5 what two pitchers should I keep? Scherzer 38, Darvish 28, Snell 18 or Stroman 14. Top pitchers go for a premium. Thanks.
Brad Johnson
1:57
Not Stroman. He's like a $4 guy imo.
1:58
I'd go with Snell for "savings." Then it's a tricky choice between Scherzer and Darvish. There's a big ADP gap, but I don't view them as *that* different.

Hey, Brad.  Long-time fantasy player and I Love all your columns.   Jose Miranda?  I have him in a keeper league and debating keeping him.  What’s your vibe on his 2023?
Brad Johnson
1:59
This is a huge season for him. I like how the Twins stuck with him and were rewarded after the initial slump. One thing we need to remember is the humidors are still in play. The April power outage could return to hammer hitters like Miranda.
So, in that sense, we might have buy-low opportunities to speculate upon in May. But that's not your question :)
2:00
If the price is cheap ($1-$4), I see nothing wrong with keeping him. You're hoping for like a .280 AVG and 22 HR this time around.

12 player 7x7 H2H League has separate saves and hold categories, 2SP, 3RP, 4P, question is to A) lockdown 2 solid save RP and 1 solid Holds RP ?minter?gallegos OR B) get a committee RP with both value of holds and SV ?Munoz ?Duran ?swanson and which positions
Brad Johnson

I'd aim for 2 CL, 4 non-CL firemen, and 6-7 SP

Your thoughts on Manoah and McKenzie this year
Brad Johnson
2:02
I'm always edgy with fly ball pitchers like McKenzie. That said, I haven't shopped any of my many dynasty shares. He's a good pitcher when he's right.
2:04
I can't tell if Manoah is a rare workhorse ace or a flash-in-the-pan future reliever like Michael Fulmer. I don't think these things can always be seen ahead of time.
Fulmer flopped in part due to injuries. Which would be an important caveat if pitcher injuries aren't inevitable.
2:05
In any case, that's getting ahead of myself. I like Manoah for 2023, though I've yet to line up a share.
I'm only just getting started on my redrafts.

Thanks for doing this Brad.  I am in an AL-only, $260, 5x5 auction Keeper league (no limitations on keepers).  Our twist is that we play with only one catcher.  I have Cal Raleigh, who I can keep for $10.  But, I see Daulton Varsho coming over from the NL, and his valuations are anywhere between $11 and $22.  Assuming everything else being equal (and that is a big assumption), do you think it is a better move to keep Raleigh, or to chase Varsho, and (if the latter) to what price?  Again, thanks.
Brad Johnson
2:06
If you want to plan for Varsho, I would set aside $30 and nominate him at your first opportunity
I see him as a big upgrade on Raleigh who very well could zero out on you. Raleigh is kinda Gary Sanchez with defense.
Stealing Home

Think of making a late draft pick up of Esteury Ruiz or CJ Abrams for steals.  Obviously positional need will play into it, but do you like one more than the other?
